#My router is no longer incapable with the wii, despite nothing changing.

just tried rebooting it with no luck
I just realized what I put as the title
what I meant to say was: My wii cannot connect to the wifi, despite nothing changing with my router
your router probably updated itself and changed the config
they do that for some reason
try to configure the wireless settings for the 2.4ghz band to include 802.11 b/g
how would i go about doing that? I have no idea how to configure anything with my router
it was unplugged and replugged briefly due to some renovation happening in my house
I have the same issue
despite me doing nothing
my Wii all of a sudden can't connect to my WiFi
or can't hold the connection and disconnects
I don't have other Wii's
The problem only persists on this Wii
All other network devices are fine on my network
so yeah
I did it and ordered the ethernet adapter
Nope, just some random one with the ASIX AX88772 chipset
I'm the one managing my network, my ISP's router is in bridge mode
my router's 2.4GHz WiFi is in b/g/n mode
20MHz and channel set to auto
it was working and all of a sudden it stopped
nothing changed in the configuration
there's nothing to change anymore
it's set correctly
to the same settings I was recommending people to set it to
furthermore
my phone's hotspot also refuses to work
so the WiFi chip must be dying
good thing I'll have the ethernet adapter
I have no idea how to get my router to support 802.11 b/g if anyone can help me with that. Searching it up gets me nowhere
what router / isp do you have?
i think it’s an AT&T BGW210-700
it says that the status both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz are disabled (?)
If 2.4 GHz is off, there’s your problem most likely
wouldnt get 51330 if 2.4ghz was off entirely
if you head to the router's web admin panel and send a screenshot, i should be able to walk you through configuring it for use with the wii
Sometimes my Wii straight up refuses to detect my router. I use a hotspot when that happens
I personally use an old WRT54G router for legacy devices that don’t support modern wifi, Wii is one of them
You can find them very cheaply online, sometimes even as new old stock, because they sold so many of them
Now, I don’t have it set up as an open network because I don’t want my neighbours stealing my wifi. Instead what I do is WEP
And before you start screaming at me, I have the router set to only allow certain MAC addresses to connect to it for security reasons
The goober
167.235.229.36 should be your primary DNS.
1.1.1.1 should be your secondary DNS.
literally my setup 😭
Hehehe
Oh how I missed having the ethernet adapter
Connects to network in 3 seconds
And does so successfully every time
And the connection doesn't fail
Finally played first game of MKWii in a long time without disconnects
Matchmaking works so fast
I have DMZ set to my Wii
It's... so good finally
A perfect networking setup for Wii
It connects in few seconds, the connection is stable
On WiFi I always feared how long it will stay connected for
I can say in Mario Kart Wii it's really good
I'd recommend but only if you have issues with WiFi
And I had severe issues on Wii
I spent more time troubleshooting than just doing what I wanted to
It won't magically make your Wii download/upload stuff at 10MB/s
For some reason whether you're using ethernet or wifi on Wii you're still gonna max out at ~350KB/s
But it's about the connection being stable, not fast
fortunately my wifi works fine
but if you get constant disconnect errors it's 100% worth it
where would i find the web admin panel? is that like a physical sticker on the box?
Depending on your ISP you should know. Try typing 192.168.0.1 in your browser which might pop up
The router on the back might tell you the admin password and where the panel is
It tends to be 192.168.1.1
it really depends on the router
@civic sparrow refer to the back of your router, the admin ip is usually written there
you want me to get my ip and paste it into the search bar?
yeah
i remember i did this a while ago
the ip isn’t on the box, has to use a terminal command to get it
ah
ok, i dix it, now what
it takes me to a page where it says that the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz is disabled
this is AT&T btw
send a screenshot?
wait so do you actually have wifi?
huh
also should i delete the screenshot?
do you use your router's wifi or some other mesh network or something?
there's nothing confidential dw
wdym by mesh network
sorry, i'm kinda dumb when it comes to this stuff
so like
for wifi
do you connect to your router directly
or to something else
cause atm your router itself doesn't broadcast any wireless signals
so i'm assuming that you don't use it for wifi
i mean, i have these extenders
that can extend the signal to the back of my house
so i guess i connect indirectly? idk
yeah they're probably what provide the wireless signal then
see if there's an admin panel ip on the extenders
it's kinda hard to see that since the extenders are literally on the ceiling
ah ubiquity
if worse comes to worse, i can call my IT guy
i’m in my home
you have an IT guy for your house??
but yeah, if you have an IT guy who manages this stuff, ask them to configure your network to allow 2.4ghz 802.11b/g/n connections
yea i’ll ask them later
my IT guy couldn’t make it 😞
i’m configuring it right now
I was able to get back online
but what’s weird is that my wii is being very stubborn. It can only connect to a connection that only supports 2.4 and not 5
18 year old console
That’s to be expected
2.4 GHz is the original wifi standard
i mean, my router works with 2.4/5ghz dual mode
my router does too, but the wii won’t connect to a connection that is in dual mode, only in 2.4
no like my wii connects to it just fine
