Wii Mail Friend added, but my name isn't black for him, still grey

I’m trying to friend my friend’s friend code on wiimail on my wii, but for him, my name/fc is greyed out. Meanwhile his friend code is registered for me.

We are aware that we used the correct friend codes.

(And no, it should not have to do with my nand on dolphin, i’m using my real wii)

And yes, we both used riiconnect mail patcher
