#Remodding Wii w Mod Chip

When we first got our wii, my dad installed a WODE Jukebox mod chip inside so he could run games from an external disc. This was accessed through the homebrew channel (which I received strict instructions never to update at the time). Tragically, I wiped this drive by accident and since then have been planning to remod the console since I know wii modding has come a long way in the past 12 years. Also tragically, my dad isn't around so he can't explain to me what he did so I can make sure nothing explodes when I try to remod it.

As it stands, the console currently has both the WODE Jukebox installed connected to an external hard drive, and a 2GB SD card. I couldn't find anything on the hard drive, other than user manual documentation explaining it's supposed to emulate a CD drive. The CD drive just had an ISO file I couldn't open. I haven't been able to get my hands on an SD card reader yet, so I'm not sure what's on there.

My current plan was to remove the mod chip and SD card thinking that would get me a factory settings wii. However, since the homebrew channel is installed I imagine that's on the console itself and not on either the mod chip or the SD card. Which would mean that I wouldn't be starting from a clean slate. I'd have to double check what the version/configuration of the homebrew channel is since I don't know off the top of my head, and also don't know what to look for.

Would anyone know what I should expect, or how I should proceed? I reckon removing the modchip should be pretty unobtrusive, I've found video tutorials for the installation online so I was planning to just follow that in reverse. I've got a bit of experience from modding my nintendo switch (just cosmetic stuff, swapping joycon shells + LEDs) and this mod only involves unscrewing components and reconfiguring ribbon cables. But I'm unsure what to expect of the SD card or the Homebrew channel, and don't know where to start if it's not a clean slate. Any advice or speculation welcome!

I'll definitely hang onto it, but I don't really see anything I'd use it for that I can't just use by modding the wii on its own. But it also just makes the console a bit clunkier and less visually appealing. I firstly just wanna get games set up on there, and from that point I'd see if there's any other mods I wanna add.

Once I get a hold of an SD card reader I'll be sure to give SysCheck a shot! Would there be any chance the software would be incompatible with an older version of the Homebrew channel? I don't know the mechanisms behind how it works, so I'm not sure what to expect if I just load it onto the same SD card that was already in the console
