#Issues with Wii not outputting video when started, and being dim after idle for a few minutes

I posted in the wii channel a few days ago but I wanted to make a post here before I buy a new connector just to be safe.

I've tried both Wii2HDMI and Component to HDMI converters and neither are working. While the Wii is on, my tv doesn't receive a signal at all, but after it idles for a few minutes (or i just tap the power button to make it idle and go yellow) it'll show the home screen very dimly (pictured). I don't believe it's a capacitor issue as I've left it on for about 15 minutes with no sign of it increasing in brightness and when I touch the controller, turn on the sensor bar, or press the reset/eject buttons on the console it'll snap back to no signal to the tv. I've also tried this on a few screens but the only way the video output is working is when I use my original component cables, but we’re about to get rid of the only tv in the house that even has those ports, hence why I wanted to use converters.

If it’s an old white wii then those are known to overheat in standby

it works completely fine when i use the original component cables though

#

there's no signal when it's active, but it shows the dim screen in standby while using the converters

Must be the converter then

#

Wii2hdmi sucks anyway

it just doesn't feel right that both the converters i got would be bad

You say it shows up after idling right?

late forge
#

yeah but the moment i press anything on the controller, it snaps right back to no output

#

that's why i'm not sure if it's capacitors

It still very well could be

#

If theyre straight up dead minus 1 or 2, trying to connect a wiimote could drain them completely

i see

#

what tools would i need to check if they're dead? i don't have much experience with electronics

dim plume
#

Youd know if theyre dead by opening it up

#

Theyd be bulged, or popped

#

You need a triwing screwdriver and a philips screwdriver

#

Theres around 200 screws

#

(At least thats what it feels like

#

Its more like 40-50

late forge
#

alright, wasn't sure if i'd need a multimeter or something else

#

i'll pop open my wii sometime tomorrow

Nah capacitors are easy to tell

Capacitor fluid is literally acid
