#vWii bricked after loading Priiloader from Homebrew Channel

idk if this necessarily pertains to riiconnect, but this is my first time doing something like this, so I'm trying to get whatever help I can get. This also happened while I was trying to get riiconnect working.

I already posted about this issue on r/wiiuhacks so I'm just gonna copy and paste what I wrote lol

After launching the Load Priiloader application from the homebrew channel, the system got stuck on a black screen and didn't turn off until I unplugged it. Now, any time I open the vWii menu, it opens on a black screen and the system won't power off. This happened as I was trying to install RiiConnect24. I was able to use the vWii Menu and Priiloader installer just fine previously.

Here are the following guides I used.

https://wiiu.hacks.guide/#/vwii-modding

https://wii.guide/riiconnect24-vwii.html

I'm fairly certain I installed the correct CIOSes and IOS 80 and what not. I followed sections II and III from the RiiConnect24 guide and it was fine. Everything was working up until now, but it bricked after I followed the 1st step from Section IV of the RiiConnect24 guide.

I have everything backed up so I can use those backups if I have to. Idk how to though, but I can figure that out. But if I could get any help on pointing out any potential mistakes I might've made so I don't do this again, or if it's possible to fix this easily, that would be hugely appreciated :)

Are you fucking kidding me

#

@drifting osprey who updated the vWii page

#

and Priiloader

#

I don't recall Priiloader ever being updated on the OSC

Sorry, I'm confused lol. Did I screw up something on my end, or is there incorrect information on the guide?

kind gate

that is what i am trying to figure out

slim siren

Oh damn okay

#

No worries, thank you for helping out

i will investigate

@slim siren did you install the correct IOS 80?

#

to be sure please send me the filename of the IOS 80 wad

slim siren
#

I don't think I have the wad but I got from the "Patched IOS 80 Installer for vWii" app and I ran it on the wii. I downloaded that app from the wii u hacks guide

ok sounds good so far

#

after you installed priiloader did you return to the Wii menu?

#

or straight up use LaunchPriiloader

It happened a little while ago now, so if I remember correctly, I installed priiloader for the first time while following the guide for priiloader itself. After it installed, priiloader opened and worked just fine. I went to system menu hacks and enabled what the guide told me to enable. Then closed it. It wasn't until a bit later I think I opened it again after trying to set up riiconnect. I didn't open "Install Priiloader" again, but when I went to open "Load Priiloader", that's when it bricked

are you sure that it just isn't your display being weird? because i remember a bug where it would boot but the screen would be black

#

check by loading the vWii, waiting a bit, then press A on your Wii Remote

slim siren
#

Maybe? Let me see

I don't think pressing A did anything. Would it be a display issue if the power button won't turn off the Wii U? Whenever this first happened, the power button wouldn't turn off the Wii U, and I had to unplug it from the back and plug it back in.

Also, this is a mistake on my part, and I'm sorry about potentially over complicating things. Before I sent a message here, I had already figured that this just was a mistake I made, so I already started the process of restoring back ups. I was watching a video guide on how to use vwii Decaffeinator. I'm assuming this is how it works, but it uses the Wii U system update menu to restore the vwii. Once I saw a message in here, I stopped the system update to avoid maybe messing things up. However, just rn, I turned on the wii u to try what you suggested for a second time and it forced an update. So now, everything's fixed it seems. Vwii boots now and all the channels I installed from the Riiconnect patcher + the homebrew channel are here. But idk if I can be of much help in troubleshooting what the issue was anymore. Sorry about that. Although, I still haven't done the last step of the RiiConnect vwii guide and checked to see if Load Priiloader works now, which is what caused issues to begin with

Looking at the homebrew channel rn, and I’m realizing that I might’ve just been a MASSIVE idiot and hit install Priiloader again rather than Load Priiloader. I’ll refrain for now, but I’m okay with opening load Priiloader with the off chance that it bricks again to see if that was the issue. I don’t really mind if it bricks again, I don’t have any important save data and I know how to restore it now. Again, I’m new to all this so I’m sorry for causing any confusion

Hey, do you know what hacks you had enabled when LoadPriiloader freeze?

What region is your console?

slim siren
#

I had block disc updates, and region free everything enabled. My region is US

Block disc updates?

You meant System updates?

slim siren
#

No, block disc updates. I just followed this guide. For some reason though, I didn't see an option for Block Online Updates
