#Corrupted my SD on accident. Looking for help re-getting important apps and files

hi!

i joined here because i've had a problem with my wii that i have been looking to fix for a while now. what happened is that i overloaded my sd card with too much stuff on it to where it got corrupted and it both will not be recognized by my wii, and will not load the filesystem if i bring it up on my computer. i'm not looking to REPAIR the sd card since i feel it's beyond saving, but instead i am looking to get all the important materials to put onto a NEW sd card. i was gifted this wii pre-modded years ago, so i don't really know what necessities to get outside of stuff like the homebrew channel and usbloader. if anyone could help me out it would be a huge lifesaver for me.

#

asking for help here bc i don't want to try it on my own and risk missing something possibly important that could kill my system if it's missing (i don't even know if that's possible, but i just want to be as safe as i can)

And then obviously do a nand backup again if necessary

If you really want to know for sure if the SD is dead, Perform a chkdsk on the drive using a Windows PC to help troubleshoot your issue.

  1. Connect the drive to your PC
  2. Search in windows for cmd then press enter.
  3. In the command prompt, type chkdsk x: but replace x with the letter for your drive.
  4. Screenshot the output.

We are looking to verify the following:

  1. No issues are found.
  2. If Windows finds problems, close and reopen the command prompt
  3. Type chkdsk /f x: but replace x with the letter for your drive.
  4. When it asks to convert lost chains to files, type n
  5. You have 32kb (32768 bytes) in each allocation unit.
  • If you have a different allocation unit size backup your data and reformat to FAT32 with the correct allocation unit size.

If windows cannot open the volume, you can try formatting it, otherwise if windows cannot see the volume, it is completely dead

i believe i have done this before and it did indeed confirm it was dead

#

hold on let me find the screenshot

#

ok it appears that the way i did it last time was slightly different, so i'll try it again with your method

#

one moment

#

yep same result

Obviously you’d still loose everything

#

But the SD might be usable again

i haven't done that in fear of 'losing' things, but since i'm not as anxious now (and also that i have a different sd lying around that i'm now currently using on the wii), i have more of a reason to

#

explorer says there's no 'disk' in the drive where the sd card is located

fluid geode
#

i'm not really worried abt it anymore anyways, since you did manage to point me in the right direction with backing up stuff on the other sd i have

#

i do have another issue though related to nintendont. should i make a new thread or put my issue in #support-text ?

alright, sounds good.

#

problem i'm having is that it isn't recognizing the emulated memory card saves i have. i've turned on emulated memory cards in settings (both on usb loader and nintendont), and i have also tried relocating the saves to my sd card. still nothing. i can confirm the memory card i have has stuff on it through dolphin's memory card manager tool. any ideas?

fluid geode
#

yes

subtle tiger
#

Then your saves have to be on usb as well

fluid geode
#

they are. that's why i still have them

subtle tiger
#

Are they individual saves?

fluid geode
#

melee and mario party 6 for some reason are, but everything else is all in two .raw files

#

those being ninmem and ninmemj

#

actually, looking through ninmemj doesn't show anything on the memory card tool

#

makes sense ig considering i don't think i've touched any jp games

subtle tiger
#

Or did you make them yourself

fluid geode
#

it's possible those were there when i got the wii, considering ninmem happens to also have melee data in it

#

so it is entirely possible the person i got it from made those saves

subtle tiger
#

I see

fluid geode
#

i think i might've got it hold on

#

got it
