You can use Rufus on a Windows machine to easily format an external hard drive or SD card for use with your Wii.
⚠️ Formatting a drive will delete all data on the drive. Backup any essential data on a drive before proceeding with the formatting process.
- Download and install Rufus to your machine: https://rufus.ie
- Most people will want the Standard Windows x64 version.
- Launch Rufus.
- Click
Show advanced drive properties. - Check the box next to
List USB Hard Drives. - In the
Devicedropdown, select the SD or USB drive you'd like to use with the Wii. - In the
Boot selectiondropdown, selectNon bootable. - In the
Partition schemedropdown, selectMBR. - In the
Volume labeltext field, enter a name for your drive. Be creative. - In the
File systemdropdown, selectFAT32orLarge FAT32 - In the
Cluster sizedropdown, select32 kilobytes. - Click
Show advanced format options - Make sure
Quick formatis checked. - Uncheck
Create extended label and icon files - Click Start to begin the format process.

After you format the SD card to FAT32 with the partition style MBR and a 32kb cluster size.
Make a folder called apps on the ROOT of the SD card and then do this, i want to see if anything is outdated, taking up space, or missing:
To assist you in troubleshooting your issue, I recommend performing a Syscheck on your Wii. This involves testing all the IOS on your console. Here's a step-by-step guide you can follow: https://wii.guide/syscheck
-
Once you complete the Syscheck, power down the Wii and insert the SD or USB into a PC. it will have generated a
syscheck.csvfile on the ROOT of your device. -
To share the results with me, simply drag and drop the
syscheck.csvfile from the root directory of your SD or USB drive into the chat. This will allow us to analyze the information and provide further assistance. -
You can also upload the report by linking the URL to chat or take photos of the entire report if you don’t have a USB or a SD reader on your PC.
Hi, sorry to bring this thread up so late, I was out of town all last week without access to my Wii. I can't seem to figure out how to load the SysCheck ModMii Edition app on my Wii. Do I need an apps folder in my SD Card to get it to load?
When you install homebrew applications on your SD Card or USB HDD, it's important to organize your folders properly for optimal functionality. Here's an informative guide on how your folder structure should look:
💾 SD or USB HDD:
┣ 📂 apps
┃ ┣ 📂 AppName1
┃ ┃ ┣ 📄 boot.dol / boot.elf
┃ ┃ ┣ 📄 icon.png
┃ ┃ ┗ 📄 meta.xml
┃ ┣ 📂 AppName2
┃ ┃ ┣ 📄 boot.dol / boot.elf
┃ ┃ ┣ 📄 icon.png
┃ ┃ ┗ 📄 meta.xml
⚠️ Please note the following important details:
- The
appsfolder serves as the main directory for your homebrew applications. - Do not nest multiple
appsfolders inside theappsfolder itself.
For a more visual demonstration, you can watch this informative video showcasing examples of various homebrew apps and providing step-by-step instructions on how to extract and place them correctly within the apps folder.
- Download d2x-cios-installer, and follow the installation guide:

Taken care of that step.
Make a new syscheck
Looks good now
Perfect! Thanks for helping get my Wii setup again.
You might have some outdated homebrew apps. If so you're gonna want to replace them.
There's 2 ways you can get them, the 1st way is through (https://wii.guide/hbb) the homebrew browser app (requires the wii to have internet) or you can use (https://oscwii.org/library) the open shop channel website (requires a pc and an SD card/USB HDD lol), they're both the same
Okay, I'll take a look and see what needs updating.
