is it fat32?
Yes i believe so
check
I had to format it with a different software
Ok
Well i know it is since the gamecube games will show up in nintendont
Could the drive itself not be compatible?
@flint trout
is it fat32 mbr?
Wdym by mbr
Format your USB drive: The drive should be 2tb or smaller, formatted to MBR and have a single primary FAT32 partition with 32kb (32768) or 64kb (65536) cluster/allocation unit size. Double check the partition style is MBR: https://www.howtogeek.com/245610/how-to-check-if-a-disk-uses-gpt-or-mbr-and-how-to-convert-between-the-two/
Drive is 64gb or less: Format it to FAT32 with 32kb (32,768 bytes) cluster / allocation unit size. Drive is larger than 64gb: Format it to FAT32 with 64kb (65,536 bytes) cluster / allocation unit size. If the drive is larger than 32GB, you will need third party software like GUIFormat or Wii Backup Manager to format your drive to FAT32 Wii Backup Manager: https://wii.guide/wiibackupmanager GUIFormat: http://ridgecrop.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm

Modern versions of Windows–and other operating systems–can use either the older Master Boot Record (MBR) or newer GUID Partition Table (GPT) for their partition schemes. Here’s how to check which one a disk is using and convert between the two.

And so if it isnt mbr then I will have to convert it?
yes
ok
Tbh I stole that from Scooty 💀
If your using Linux try windows because sometimes windows is better then Linux when it comes to working with partitions and formatting things
Im already using windows
so ive been copying from you copying scooty
Then try Linux
Then you can just check in disk management
Yeah i havent been home to try anything yet
Okay
The drive is mbr
Is there something you are looking for?
Do i need to keep my hard drive plugged into the wii when performing the syscheck?
@flint trout
more of your sd card
but you can keep it plugged in
do you need the files
these are the files
i did not keep my hard drive plugged in
I have no idea what these mean
hmm
good? bad?
good
any solutions?
this is actually difficult
click inside of the folders
wait
its all gc games
usb loader gx has an option to load gc games with nintendont
i also have a wbfs folder
maybe thats why
whats inside
and i use wiiflow i was seeing if usbloader worked
reload cache in wiiflow?
Already did
idk how to solve this, sorry
hmmmm ok well thanks for trying
Quick question, does HBC recognize your HDD
homebrew channel
how would i check that
go to homebrew channel
wdym
i assume i would need wiixplorer-ss
then get it
is that the app you are telling me to get?
idk then
hmmmm
Couldnt you still pull the sources up and see if the drives selectable?
wdym
Connect the drive to your PC, then search in windows for cmd and press enter.
in the command prompt, type chkdsk x: but replace x with the letter for your drive.
then screenshot the output.
Looking to verify that no issues are found and that you have
32kb (32768 bytes) or 64kb (65536 bytes) in each allocation unit.
If you have a different allocation unit size backup your data and reformat to FAT32 with the correct allocation unit size.
heres what came up
After loading the homebrew channel pressing 1 should pull a sources list (pretty sure its 1)
How big is the drive
yes it is
1TB by the looks of the space available
Oh if it’s an SSD it might need to be externally powered
how
it only takes usbc
Time to daisy chain then lmao
lmao
Usb c-a, then a male-female adapter, then that
I’m sure there are Y cables with the USB C end
probably
so i need to get it externally powered
let me try installing an app onto the ssd to see if it reads
THEY HAVE GENDERS NOW
2 genders, in fact
And actually it would be female-female with the splitter
OHHHHHHHHHH
While it is possible to use a flash drive with the Wii by converting it to the WBFS format, this is generally not recommended due to compatibility issues with the proprietary filesystem and the potential for data corruption. USB hard drives are a better option for use with the Wii due to their larger storage capacity, faster read/write speeds, and greater compatibility with the console. Some recommended affordable USB hard drives for the Wii include the Toshiba Canvio Basics, the Maxone 2.5" Ultra Slim Portable External Hard Drive, and the Silicon Power A60 Shockproof Portable Hard Drive. These drives are reliable and widely available, and they are priced under $50, making them a good choice for anyone looking to expand their Wii storage on a budget.

The Canvio Basics portable external hard drive allows you to collect your files and take them anywhere, offering high storage capacity, simple plug and play operation, and reliable performance. It features a compact design with a classic matte, black finish that is USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 compatible....

Interesting that I'm not the only person having this issue of following the steps and it not working
@plain wolf rate
HDDs, specifically
I'm planning to grab a sd card for now, would like a bigger one anyways
thought theyre the same thing
but atleast i hooked up some good cheap external hard drives
SSDs and HDDs are different
update: the hard drive reads in the hbc, and it already read in nintendont, it just doesnt seem to read in wiiflow or usbloader
ohhhhh
damn
Make sure your Drive is plugged into Port 0 like in this image https://i.imgur.com/zNrAp5o.png
Verify that port 0 is selected in usbloader
ok gimme two seconds
update: both wiiflow and usbloader are set to port 0, neither work, and when i change the partition to sd in wiiflow, it does not let me change it back
no joke
Do you have an HDD lying around somewhere to test it with
let me check
i dont think so
actually
i do but i dont have a cable to go with it
sadge

Well clearly nothings wrong with the drive. I think it’s just the power issue
yeah it seems to read in everything except what i need
so you think the cables will work
One idea though, since HBC reads it, try adding the apps only on the HDD
Possibly
Or SSD in this case
Make sure they're off your SD card before loading it all up
Since it'd have to be mounted to pull the app off, it'll either crash the apps, work, or be dumb
what if i already have hbc set to read my ssd
You want it to
Since you'll put USBLoaderGX or WiiFlow on it instead of on the SD card
but i would need to take it off of the sd card
Yes
ok
Any luck?
You put them in an /apps folder right?
Yep
It is E:/apps/wiiflow
On my ssd
And refused to load when i just transferred it over
So i downloaded it from homebrew browser and then it was all glitchy
Should i just get a big sd card or a hdd at this point
Not sure
Could be power related
I'm having an issue like this with an HDD right now, it wont mount even to the HBC
I'm going to get an SD card for now, using wiibrew.org for compatibility ratings
What sparks my interest is that nintendont works
But the others dont
I might do a last ditch and see what exactlys wrong with the readings by formatting my hdd to WBFS format when I get home tonight, since theres no other important data that isnt backed up to it right now
yeah im surpised that nintendont works
would formatting the drive to something else work
Wbfs may, but then you have the jank of the format, and no GC games can be run off it
hmmmmmmm ok
Most people dont recommend it
yeah i can kinda see why
You'll be stuck using only Wii Backup Manager too, since Windows doesnt know the format
Yeah
Just make sure to cross reference info to buy one that will work
wdym
Some cards, even fitting the constraints of the Wii, will not work
And anything in SDXC may be a gamble
if i transfer every file i have over to the sd card will i need to remod the wii?
No
ok
Should, but I'm not risking going over 256GB since thats the highest I've seen tested
I dont need that much anyways
