#How do you decrease the rate you encounter game crashing when using USB Loader GX & WiiFlow?

To put it bluntly:

Every time I try to launch a game on WiiFlow or USB Loader GX, it crashes or stays on a black screen almost 90% of the time or the game just doesn't load after going past the Wii Safety screen on the launch of the game.

Is there any way to fix this? Thanks.

Double check the following:

Format your USB drive: The drive should be 2tb or smaller, formatted to MBR and have a single primary FAT32 partition with 32kb (32768) or 64kb (65536) cluster/allocation unit size. Double check the partition style is MBR: https://www.howtogeek.com/245610/how-to-check-if-a-disk-uses-gpt-or-mbr-and-how-to-convert-between-the-two/
Drive is 64gb or less: Format it to FAT32 with 32kb (32,768 bytes) cluster / allocation unit size. Drive is larger than 64gb: Format it to FAT32 with 64kb (65,536 bytes) cluster / allocation unit size. If the drive is larger than 32GB, you will need third party software like GUIFormat or Wii Backup Manager to format your drive to FAT32 Wii Backup Manager: https://wii.guide/wiibackupmanager GUIFormat: http://ridgecrop.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm

How-To Geek

Modern versions of Windows–and other operating systems–can use either the older Master Boot Record (MBR) or newer GUID Partition Table (GPT) for their partition schemes. Here’s how to check which one a disk is using and convert between the two.

Actually I just remembered something. You can use Wii backup manager to format the drive to WBFS and for some reason it’s friendlier on flash drives. They only thing is that windows doesn’t recognize it so the only way to transfer files back and forth is with Wii backup manager

#

Also you won’t be able to use GameCube games that way

#

yeah but good option, just not great if you plan on adding a lot of games

frozen smelt
#

i already only transfer my games through Wii Backup Manager so i don't have a problem with that

#

plus i don't play any GameCube games on the Wii anyways

#

so i'll format it as WBFS

i've only tried out around 1 to 3 games on the flash drive due to the amount of crashing i was encountering

While it is possible to use a flash drive with the Wii by converting it to the WBFS format, this is generally not recommended due to compatibility issues with the proprietary filesystem and the potential for data corruption. HDDs are a better option for use with the Wii due to their larger storage capacity, faster read/write speeds, and greater compatibility with the console. Some recommended affordable HDDs for the Wii include the Toshiba Canvio Basics, the Maxone 2.5" Ultra Slim Portable External Hard Drive, and the Silicon Power A60 Shockproof Portable Hard Drive. These drives are reliable and widely available, and they are priced under $50, making them a good choice for anyone looking to expand their Wii storage on a budget.

Though I believe we would be recommending the compatibility schema which would have base 38 on slot 248 and base 58 on slot 251

You can set those recommendations here: https://github.com/wiidev/usbloadergx
