soft modding a hard modded wii

Hi team. I have a ver 3.4E wii series 1 that has been hard modded (can read burnt discs). Is it safe to soft mod with home brew? Step 1 is to update to ver 4.3 and I was told by the mod shop (10+ years ago) to not update or it will brick. Can I connect to wifi and update my machine? I am about 10yrs out of the loop

I really don’t know why people think an update bricks a freaking Wii. If anything, you might get banned from using online services, but Nintendo stopped checking the Wii a long time ago so you should be good to go

Just because the mod shop I got the hard mod done told me so, but this was 10+ years ago, but I assumed no one would care in 2022

If you’re really worried about a brick, install Priiloader if you haven’t yet because it’s some kind of a brick protection

the 4.2 update overwrote boot2 on the wii to be boot2v4, getting rid of bootmii/boot2 and also incidentally bricking many even non-homebrewed wiis

I wouldnt recommend you to update, with an older versión you can run more exploits

just to top off the fact that this isn't even true, it'd much more likely be less due to the lack of SDHC support in <4.0

Unless you have backups (nand and discs) an 2gb sd is ok

I wouldn't discourage that.

Many people lately have been pretty brazen with wii homebrew and messing with things they don't understand
