#External Drive causing DSI Error when I select USB from Homebrew

I recently got a new external hard drive to use with my Wii instead of a random USB I found since I heard it's a lot more stable- I've already formatted it to FAT32 and I tried copying everything over 1 to 1 from the old USB as well as deleting everything and just leaving the most basic files necessary, but I continue to get an error everytime I try to load the apps in homebrew.
I saw one person had as similar issue and changed their drive from MBR to GPT but I have no such option...
The old USB still shows all the apps fine, but I've had a game crash before so I wanted to find a more safe option to play my games.
