So recently I finally modded my wii mini so I could play wii, gamecube, etc. so because people always say that usb loader gx is good I tried it out. I did the cios thingy (and yes I checked I did eversthing correctly) and I opened usb loader gx. It did the loading screen but after it got done I only had the usb loader gx home screen with no icons. It just won't work.

HELP When I start usb loader gx it shows a blank screen
can you power down the Wii, insert the drive into your PC, then search in windows for cmd and press enter.
in the command prompt, type chkdsk x: but replace x with the letter for your drive.
then screenshot the output
Transalation:
Translation:
The type of the usb is FAT32
Access denied
Volume series number:97D1-BB46
Files and Folder are getting checked
No need to translate further
ok
@solid plank
Are you using a USB stick or a USB hard drive
usb stick
Could be your issue
wait so I have to buy a USB hard drive?
USB sticks often cause issues yes. Something about their USB controllers varying a lot and many not being compatible with the Wii causing issues when the Wii tries to write to them
You can try reinstalling USB Loader Gx or reformatting the drive
But it appears formatted correctly with no issues
It worked before though it was only when I deleted usb loader gx and reinstalled it
Try a fresh install from here:
https://oscwii.org/library/app/usbloader_gx
Just delete root:/apps/usbloader_gx/ and replace it with the one you freshly downloaded.
To help troubleshoot your issue please also run Syscheck and test all IOS on your Wii by following this guide:
https://wii.guide/syscheck
When it's done it will generate and display a syscheck.csv file.
If you don't have an SD, you will get an error. Just continue until the report is displayed. You will need to upload photos of the entire report.
If you have an SD, power down the Wii and insert the SD into a PC. Drag and drop the syscheck.csv file from the root of your SD into chat.
I'm using a wii mini if that is important
Ok it works but where do I put the games
What works?
Transfer Wii games to your drive using Wii Backup Manager:
https://wii.guide/wiibackupmanager
Usb manager gx where do I put the rom folder
Here is what the folder structure should look like for game loading:
💾SD/USB:
┣ 📂wbfs
┃ ┣ 📂GameName [gameID]
┃ ┃ ┗ 📜gameid.wbfs
┃ ┗ 📂GameName [gameID] --This example is for split wbfs files, if you are on ntfs or your game is smaller than 4gb, ignore it
┃ ┣ 📜gameid.wbfs
┃ ┗ 📜gameid.wbf1
┗ 📂games
┣ 📂GameName [gameID]
┃ ┗ 📜game.iso --note: this is LITERALLY game.iso, not the name of the game, or the game id, just game
┗ 📂GameName [gameID] --This example is for multi disc games
┣ 📜game.iso
┗ 📜disc2.iso
Note: the WBFS folder is for WII GAMES ONLY and the Games folder is for GAMECUBE GAMES ONLY
get the game IDs here: https://www.gametdb.com/
For Wii games you can just use any of the programs found on this page as an easier alternative to manually creating the folder structure: https://wii.guide/wiibackupmanager
So no name[gameid] folder if my games are under 2 gb?
You can do the game folder. I prefer to have all my games like that. Wii Backup Manager creates them for you.
But if I find the games in wbfs format I can use them right?
Roms*
Yes but again I still prefer to use wii backup manager because it'll create the folder structure and split the wbfs if it's larger than 4gb
Ok
As soon as I did the wbfs folder usb loader gx showed the blank screen
Are there any wads for stability I could download? Because maybe that could fix it.
Please don't install any wads. You have a Wii Mini. It's very easy to brick it.
Do the syscheck I asked you to do like 5 hours ago
I did but it crashes
o right Wii mini one sec
try this older variant of syscheck https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/379818272230473731/969862174333886484/syscheck2_b.19.zip SyscheckHDE seems to crash after trying to write to the sd which obv doesn’t exist
@solid plank
Give me the syscheck report. I'm not sure if it'll put the syscheck.csv file on the root of your USB
Okay Ima do that then
do you need a translation?
mmm
So what now?
Ok I will take a look at the message history
K
Did you already put the games in the usb stick?
Yes
In the wbfs folder on the root, I used the backup manager and Ima show you what happens when I start usb loader gx up
ok
After it's done loading it does this
But I tested it and it only appears to do that if there is an exisitng wbfs folder (also that happens when there is a wbfs folder with games inside)
So do you know the fix?
The fix is to use a different USB drive
Bruh means I bought that usb for nothing?
Is there really no ther way?
Other*
U can send a screenshot of the game files on your USB drive
But even if they're in the wrong spot the program should be loading.
So yeah it is pretty clear this is an issue with your drive.
Obviously
Yes
Take your files out and try to use guiformat on it
Ok
@civic hinge
Then on allocation size select the 65k value
Is that a problem?
Wouldn't cause this issue
But yeah that would be ideal
Okay
32kb would still work
I use a 500gb HDD on 32kb
Because I'm too lazy to reformat it
Yes when drive is bigger than 64gb usually bigger allocation size is recommended but not mandatory
Ok
should I also make it F: or is it not that important?
Nope don't work
Is there maybe an alternative to usb loader gx?
I tried it before I'm not sure if it works now. Is there a special version I have to download for wiiflow or is it the same as for everyone?
no special version
Ok
If it doesn't work could you recommend me a 256 gb usb that should work?
Any usb hard drive 2tb or smaller should work. If you're low on money, just get the cheapest one you can find
Here is a very cheap 320gb HDD:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HF9H0MA/
If you want something with a reliable warranty and might be made of better material, get a 1tb one from a known brand like WD, Seagate, or Toshiba:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079D359S6/
You can also use any 2.5" drive with an enclosure known to work with the Wii:
https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Tool-free-Enclosure-Optimized-EC-UASP/dp/B00OJ3UJ2S/
Alright Ima get the 320 gb one I guess. Ihave to wait then
wait is it important if my usb letter is different than F:
no, just don't mix it up with the pc drive letter
guiformat reformatting or chkdsk are enough to fix if issues occur
alr
It's been 20 minutes should it load that long?
normally takes 30 seconds or less
Man
I think it don't work
Man
I don't wanna buy an hard drive
But I have to
Is there an older version I could use
Or older usb loader gx
I hears some people talking about ub0 and ux0 or something I forgot could this help for usb
no buy a usb hdd
