#how do gamecube games work with usb loader gx

Nintendon't
To play GameCube games you will need to have Nintendont in your apps folder.
Download the .zip from here:
https://oscwii.org/library/app/Nintendont
Extract Nintendont.zip then copy its contents (apps and controllers folders) to the root of the same drive you keep your homebrew apps on.
With Nintendont installed, USB Loader GX or WiiFlow can now load GameCube games.
https://wii.guide/usbloadergx
https://wii.guide/wiiflow
You can only play GameCube games from a SD or USB drive formatted to MBR FAT32 with 32kb or 64kb allocation unit size. You can use 64kb allocation unit size when formatting if the drive is larger than 64gb.
Dump your GameCube game using CleanRip:
https://wii.guide/dump-games
GameCube games can be played on the Wii in NKit.iso or ISO (not NKit.gcz). NKit.iso takes up much less space and plays just the same so I recommend that. You can use the Nkit PC program to convert an ISO to Nkit.iso
Get Nkit by clicking Download button on this page:
https://gbatemp.net/download/nkit.36157/
Extract it to a convenient place on your PC.
You can then use GameCube Backup Manager to transfer the game to your drive. It can create the necessary folder structure and rename the files for you:
https://github.com/AxionDrak/GameCube-Backup-Manager
Otherwise do it by hand:
š¾SD/USB:
ā šgames
⣠šGameName [gameID]
ā ā šgame.iso --note: this is LITERALLY game.iso, not the name of the game, or the game id, just game
ā šGameName [gameID] --This example is for multi disc games
⣠šgame.iso
ā šdisc2.iso
Note: the WBFS folder is for WII GAMES ONLY and the Games folder is for GAMECUBE GAMES ONLY
nkit.iso files should still be named literally game.iso
@gritty tartan sorry for ping but what should I do here?
im extracting the Nintendont files onto my sd card
Just replace them.
The drive should be 2tb or smaller, formatted to MBR and have a single primary FAT32 partition with 32kb (32768) or 64kb (65536) cluster/allocation unit size.
Double check the partition style is MBR: https://www.howtogeek.com/245610/how-to-check-if-a-disk-uses-gpt-or-mbr-and-how-to-convert-between-the-two/
Drive is 64gb or less: Format it to FAT32 with 32kb (32768) cluster / allocation unit size.
Drive is larger than 64gb: Format it to FAT32 with 64kb (65536) cluster / allocation unit size.
If the drive is larger than 32GB, you will need third party software like GUIFormat or Wii Backup Manager to format your drive to FAT32
Wii Backup Manager: https://wii.guide/wiibackupmanager
GUIFormat: http://ridgecrop.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm
will this wipe all my files?
Yes, formatting a drive will delete everything on the drive.
whelp
time to back up what i can
im looking through the files of the gamecube backup manager folder
by any chance do you know where the application itself is
i cannot find it lol
its probably right in front of my face and im just not looking hard enough
Maybe you downloaded the wrong thing. You can get it from the Releases page:
https://github.com/AxionDrak/GameCube-Backup-Manager/releases
You'll want to download either one:
gcbm.zipgcbm_2.6.1.2_setup.exe
The setup installs to your computer and the .zip will be a portable application and doesn't need to be installed and can just be run from the folder.
Yeah I definitely downloaded the wrong thing
Iāll figure it out just give me a few years
so does the gamecube game go into nkit and then the gamecube backup manager?
Yeah you'll want to plug the nkit.iso into GameCube backup manager
Select Convert To nkit.iso
drag the file in
Click Process
grab the file from the processed folder inside nkit once it's done
It might be under match fail folder
idk never used it good luck
lmao i'll figure it out
OKAY I GOT A GAMECUBE GAME WORKING
Almost
The audio plays, I can hear it
The game just doesnāt appear on video
I assume thatās a settings issue?
Video
The controller works too
I hear things happen when I press buttons
@gritty tartan any recommendations?
im using the one that came with the Wii
the three wires, red, yellow, and white
Yes the video mode setting is available for global settings and also for specific games
so two different places. Sometimes I like just playing with the settings for specific games until I figure out what would work before messing with the settings for all games.
The video mode says āUse globalā
Lemme check the global settings
Video mode says āDisc defaultā
Is the game out of region?
Possibly?
Itās Kirby Air Ride, I got it from MarioCube
How do I check the region?
Alright lemme check the file
Kirby AirRide USA would be [GKYE01] while the Europe/Pal release would be [GKYP01]
GKYE01
So that last letter tells u what region
Okay yeah I have the USA version
I assume your Wii the USA one
Yes
So the gamecube video mode setting is different
Scroll down to
--== DM(L) + Nintendont ==--
U have Progressive patch on
Is that the issue lmao
Which means it'll force the game to run at 480p
Which your video cables do not support
I assume I should turn that off
Iām good at this I swear
If I want a better picture out of your Wii you should consider buying component cables
Assuming your TV supports it
It should support it
Ah I see
Another question:
How do I emulate a GameCube Memory Card via USB Loader GX?
Should just be a setting in the same section
Ah if u scroll down farther to
--== Nintendont ==--
You'll see Memory Card Emulation
Set it to Individual
It is now on Individual
Should be good then
yay
Alright well
Thank you so much for your help again
Any time
Have a great rest of your day š
