Wii Backup Manager isn't for applying cheat codes. Just use it to transfer the game to your drive.
If your Wii has an internet connection you can download codes using your game loader. Assuming you're using the latest version of one of the two recommended game loaders, WiiFlow Lite or USBB Loader GX.
Just select the game you want in your game loader, then select settings, then there should be an option for cheats where it will download some. Then you can enable the one you want.
