About Art Fight

❔ What is Art Fight?

Art Fight is a free, annual art game that lasts for 1 month every July. Users can register on-site to join, and participants are split into two teams shortly before and during the event. Participants earn points for their team by making art for other users.
Check out the about video here!

❔ When does Art Fight start? When does Art Fight end?

Art Fight starts every year on July 1st and ends August 1st, both times being <t:1751392800:t>.

❔ What art styles and mediums are allowed on Art Fight?

We welcome all styles, regardless of where you are in your art journey. The mediums we allow are listed in the attack categorization guide.

Getting Started

❔ How do I sign up and join a team?

Register an account here. After making an account, you can join the current event by clicking “Current Event” on the top right bar, next to your username. You’ll be taken to a page to be randomly sorted onto one of the teams.
Alternatively, here’s a direct link to choose your team during our on-season: https://artfight.net/team/sort

Note: You can head into #af-roles to assign yourself your team role here on the Discord! Contributors also gain access to a special gradient version of the team roles.

❔ Do I need to theme my attacks/characters to my team?

Every year, Art Fight’s two teams feature unique theming. Themes are voted on by the community and revealed through a fun-filled livestream event in June. There is no requirement that participants must follow their team’s theme, meaning your attacks nor your characters need to be based on the theme!

❔ How do I switch teams?

You can switch teams on site here. After joining a team, you may only switch teams twice. Changing teams during the event will grant you an additional "traitor" badge.

❔ How do I attack?

Note: You may only start drawing once the event has started. Attacking early can result in a ban.
To start attacking, find a character from either team and start drawing! Once you're done, you can submit your attack here: http://artfight.net/submit/attack

❔ How do I rate/filter an attack/character?

Unsure how to rate or filter your attacks, characters, or character images? Check out the following guides:

  • Attack Guide: How to rate your attack's finish level and type.
  • Filter Guide: How to filter your image for violence, nudity, eyestrain, and other sensitive themes.
#

❔ How do I submit characters and how do I look for characters to attack?

You can submit characters here: https://artfight.net/submit/character. If you need help finding characters to attack, here are some tips:

  1. Use the discovery page.
  2. Use the character search.
  3. Look in the team page under "Recent Characters". You can click the team names under the point bar on the homepage to be taken straight to their team page. Note: this method is only available during an event.
  4. Ask or search in #arts, #arts-2 or #characters here in the Discord.

❔ How do I revenge?

You can revenge an attack by attacking somebody after they’ve attacked you! When you’re uploading your attack, there should be a button below where you input Character IDs that says “Find Revengable Attacks”. Art Fight’s revenge system will keep a "chain" between you and the main recipient of the attack.

Please note that revenges do not earn you extra points. You can only revenge attacks that have been made during the current season. The ability to revenge will not appear if you were not marked the main recipient of an attack, such as on a mass attack! If a user has attacked you several times, don't worry, you can select which of these attacks you want to revenge against, thanks to a drop-down list!

❔ Where can I find Art Fight assets/team cards?

You can find our official assets on the asset page. For user-made, free to use assets, consider checking out our community assets page, as well as our Toyhouse world!

❔ What do these common Art Fight terms mean?

Attacks: Art you make for other people.
Defenses: Art others make for you.
Friendly Fire: When you attack someone on the same team as you. Friendly fires receive 75% of points than if you had attacked someone on the opposite team.
Revenge: When you attack someone back who attacked you first.
Hitlist: Typically a Google Form other players can fill out to show you their profile and characters. These are optional and just for fun!
Mass Attack: An attack with several different characters in the same scene.
Revenge Chains: When two users repeatedly revenge each other.
Battle Ratio: The ratio of attacks made to the defenses received. A higher ratio means you’ve submitted more attacks than you’ve received.
Bookmark: If you want to save a character to attack at a later date, click the ‘Bookmark’ button on the character’s profile. You can find all bookmarks here.

❔ How do I use BBCode/CSS in my profile/character bios?

❔ How do I add an image to my profile?

To put an image on your profile, navigate to your account settings under "Profile" and use the insert image button! Make sure the file is a direct image link, and ends in .png, .jpg, or .gif.
If you’re having trouble with this, check out our Common Errors section: An image on my profile is broken!

❔ I don’t know the artist of my character or image!

If you do not know the artist to your character or image, you can simply add a link similar to https://artfight.net/info/unknown-artist as the URL. In the additional credits section, add that you do not know the artist/designer.

❔ Can I upload canon characters or Alternate Universe designs (AUs) of canon characters?

Under our current rules, you cannot directly upload a canon character to our website, whether that is as a character, a character image, or as part of an attack. However, under our DMCA rules, we do allow AUs of canon characters as long as there is at least one significant visual difference between the AU and the canon character.

About the Discord

❔ I can’t see the channels/I can’t type in introductions!

In order to gain access to the rest of the channels, you must click the button in the #info channel. Once you've done that, you should receive the "Verified" role and should be able to chat!
If you need help verifying, please reach out to someone in #meet-the-chat-mods!

❔ I can’t see target hunting, advertisements, and other channels!

If you have verified in #info and are still missing access to the following channels: target hunting, advertisements, minigame marking, and art trades, you’ll need to send an introduction to #introductions . If you sent your introduction prior to February 2022, please repost it!

Please note that target hunting, advertisements, and art trades are seasonal channels; target hunting is available during the on-season, while advertisements and art trades are available during the off-season.

❔ How do I join Minigames?

Once you have made an introduction in #introductions, please read through the information channel: #minigames-info. How to join Minigames is at the top of the channel.

❔ Where do I get my team colors/change my name color?

You can get your team role in #af-roles! The bot can occasionally lag behind during high traffic, and it may take some time for your role to apply. Let a chat moderator know if you are still unable to assign yourself a role!

❔ I can’t get my team role in #af-roles, I don’t see anything to react to on the post!

Go into your Discord settings and the “Chat” section under “App Settings”. Toggle on the section that says “Show emoji reactions on messages”!

Common Errors

❔ My profile picture/attack resulted in an error!

User profile pictures must be 100x100px and thumbnails for your characters/attacks must be 200x200px. Images have to be under 5MB when uploaded.
As of 2024, you can now resize your images on-site using our cropping tool!

❔ My profile picture/thumbnail didn’t change when I edited it!

Sometimes the cache is stubborn and won't update images properly. If other people see the updated image and you see the old image, please give it up to 24 hours to fix. You can also try clearing your cache via your browser settings.

❔ An image on my profile is broken!

If you're having issues inserting images onto your profile, please check if any of these solutions help:

  • Make sure the file is a direct image link, and ends in .jpg, .png, or .gif.
    • Note, you must use an image hosting website to upload this way. Discord cannot act as an image host, as its links break after 24 hours.
#

❔ I have yet to receive my verification/password reset email!

Make sure you only click the password reset link once, as repeated attempts can slow down our provider and cause issues delivering your email.
First, check your spam folder. If you are unable to find it, try using either a Gmail or Yahoo email address for your account, as both work most reliably for receiving emails.
If all else fails, DM an admin in #meet-the-higherups.

❔ I am receiving an error while attempting to reset my password!

Make sure the password you are resetting to has more than 8 characters and doesn’t include any special characters, like emojis.

❔ My images are uploading dull or desaturated!

If your images are uploading to Art Fight with reduced or desaturated colors, it may be due to using Procreate!

Procreate canvases use a P3 color setting by default; most platforms handle this well, but when processed by Art Fight it may result in a dull image.

You’ll need to change your canvas color settings to one of the sRGB options to ensure it uploads correctly everywhere, including Art Fight.
