#My feedback on block selection UI

IMO it looks too much like a mobile game UI

The elements are really large and take up a lot of the screen with poor information density.
I’ve linked call of duty’s UI as well, it has a similar issue.

The BB ui is a good example of how to do things right, the menu on the right is dense and quick to navigate on mouse. The BB components themselves are also mostly dense, they just have a lot of inputs/labels, but the size fits the function.

I’ve linked the SE block ui as well, as you can see it’s far denser in its fitting of blocks so it’s much more comfortable to navigate and visually appealing.

(I got these images off the internet)

Another reason why the block ui feels off is the rest of the game doesn’t use that UI format like, at all. It feels like a placeholder.

Like the bb menu, mimic menu, thruster menu, weapon menu, are all unified at the very least thematically.

And so are the various file selection menus in the game.

i feel like FTDs block selection ui prevents new players from being overwhelmed

I remember it being a mixed feeling. When I saw all the tabs on the left at once for the first time, I was like “oh god”

I’m so used to it now though that it will be hard to adapt to if any changes are made.

I think it does need a bit of a theme change but it’s not really a priority
