#Towing Lines + Hooks

I wish
I mean you can kina do it with spinblocks and separators
That would allow for proper trains (sort of)
Flail melee weapon time
Please I need trains in ftd
please, i really want to take a damaged ship under tow, or tow along a seperate vehicle in the adventrue mode and work on it while going to a new resource zone.
Bump
Oh yes this whould be great, just being able to "harpoon" allied craft could allow so many fun builds
I have realised another thing would have to be added, a friendly fire module for missiles, basically the opposite of the one currently in game so that it exclusively targets friendly craft, just means missiles won’t accidentally grab the enemy while ur trying to tow ur damaged craft out of harms way in adventure mode.
Bump
That could be added to the existing IFF block, a toggle to target only hostiles, only friendlies, or ignore faction - and have this controllable by bread/acb
Definitely an easier fix than what I was proposing
B
How would this work in OOP?
OOP?
Out of play
probably make the towed vehicle a drone
It just wouldn’t I guess
Like why would you need to tow stuff out of play
Capturing A Vehicle, And Towing It To A Safer Place
Or Setting Up Some Kind Of Sea-Train Of Barges To Transport Large Amounts Of Material
just some fun innit
As For How It'd Work, I Dunno. Maybe A Special Kind Of Fleet With A Designated Leader That Pulls Everything Behind It.
Speed Should Be Reduced By The Proportion Of Dead Weight To The Leader's Own Weight And Thrust
Otherwise, Since The Towed Vehicles Aren't Contributing To Mat Drain, It Could Be Easily Abused To Pull Stupid Amounts Of Stuff Around At High Speed For Almost Nothing
Bump
tractor beams do that already, just with a bit of manual labor (or ridiculous breadboarding)
Fair. Still Doesn't Mean We Need *More* Cheese
We want tow ropes
bmup
Double bump
I like this idea
assp
I doubt this will be added but we got fire so why not
Also I want to make barrage balloons now

bmup, also you dont need to bmup this post every day
I wasn't going to bump this post before, but now I'm going to just out of spite
NOOOO WHY ARE YOU SO CRUEL TO ME
notices your bump

problem with this is that you could drag huge vehicles with tows at 100ms per second breaking the game
Well like obviously you have to have a craft powerful enough to do that
you can already do that with tractor beams, and they can be perfectly stable using them.
With ropes they will be flung in all kinds of directions. XD
The Way Harpoons Work Means That This Would Require Sufficiently Large Amounts Of Power
Otherwise They Just Wouldn't Winch Down And Wouldn't Be Pulled
Tractor Beams Are Their Own Series Of Problems, And They Can't Exceed 100m/s
They Aren't Really Comparable To Proper Towing
Weight still applies for it
Actually, this might solve the issue of tractor beams clipping vehicles into terrain and destroying them.
Or, you could just, y'know, not toggle the tractor beam on when it's obviously gonna slam itself through the ground
Which requires obscene amounts of breadboarding
Don't see why it'd need BB... you just don't turn it on when you see it's obviously going to hit land...
The problem with that is that tractor beams have a very rigid connection, ropes allow the craft to move which whould just look a lot prettier.
Speaking of moving, I do wish that the tractor beams had a function to tell you whether your ship is going to sink or not
Rather than "Aight, time to turn this off and see if it sinks, op it did, time to add more alloy"
Trains and proper transport helicopters sound fun. You could also probably make a good tugboat with this.
Bump
You try that while it is on seemingly flat ground while trying to run from an enemy. Not gonna happen, the craft will get smashed to bits.
what about automation and not doing everything by hand?
bmup
please this is absolute cinema
This shouldn't be that hard to make anyways since we already have harpoons. Almost the same thing
And also if we could connect two parts of the same craft with these lines it could make ropes with physics which would be quite cool
Someone would make a flail or whip for a tg craft and it would be so cool
hammerfight is the pinnacle of gaming
This would be really usefull for a craft like the desert boa :0
Ooh yes, you could do the brake lines and cables for the trailers with this!
also bumping this sounds EPIC
Bump
This works as long as craft connected by tow lines cannot repair each other, otherwise it's the new TG loophole
I Don't See Why A Pecking Order Couldn't Be Established - The Lead Ship Can Heal The One It's Towing, But Not The Other Way Around, Something Like That.
For Long Trains, It Would End Up More Like A List. Ships Higher On The List, Further Ahead In The Train, Can Heal Ships Lower On The List. Etc.
We Already Have Tow Lines In The Game In The Form Of Harpoons. Just Let Us Connect Them To Friendly Units And Winch Them Down Without Missiles.
Yeah
Tbh just make it have a special block which is basically a harpoon missile spawner
Winch Block, Some Way Of Launching The Line, And A Hook Block On The Other Ship. Simple As.
Hooks and magnets 😔
yes, bump, still think it would be awesome
always bump this, because it would be awesome

bump
bump
so many road bumps
bomp
pmuBump
bump cause it would be cool :3
It would be cool, could be used to tow damaged ships back to where they can be repaired at a faster than 3m/s speed of out of play. But then it could be abused for speeding up slowships by making a very fast tower. But that could probably be solved.

You can already do this with tractor beams
