Modern day ships with computing systems like AEGIS are capable of sharing detections and coordinating defensive actions across a fleet - it would be really sweet if we could replicate missile defense by having munition warnings be shared by craft with IVTs to all other craft, just like with regular sensor detections. The pre-existing alternative is to do some trickery involving variables and turrets, and that's kind of jank.
If IVTs were able to share munition warnings, they would:
a) make IVTs more desirable to have
b) give specialized ships (ie, missile defense craft) in a fleet more viability
c) makes possible munition warning drones that could detect sandblaster shells early
and d) be kinda cool, I guess.
