hi guys, i know this is not a foxhole related thing, but i have designed a lego car for the current Lego Ideas contest (if you like lego check it out, there are some really cool cars there), in which you have to build a 50s/60s inspired car.
so the thing is that i wanted to make something based around the studebaker starlight, this weird, but awesome looking car
and i am not quite sure which front design i like more
so, which one you do you prefer?

Shading's made up of different colors, like the left pauldron has some purple in it, but I can't unsee it as shading and if I had to do something like that myself I wouldn't even know what kind of colors I'd need

Use them in all freaking places. Shadow,l ight, combine with any colour. Make your drawing in 2 colours. You see purple in the pauldron? Cause the biggest part of the drawing is purple. That is why. You see on the pauldron yellow? Her hair is orange, use it there too.
It is simple. Use the colour from object b in object a and vice versa

I can't just slap a color onto somewhere. I don't have a picture in my head that I can follow to the letter. I mean I do have a picture in my head, but it's so vague I can't use it as an example to retrace on actual (or digital) page.

Shadow is green, light is yellow. Ratios vary so that red is still red and etc. But ypu see yelow both in the red and green one. Red both in the yellow and green one and green both in the yellow and red one.

Well, the idea is, irl there is never a true dark and a true white. So even whiter colours are grayish or darker colours looks more pale

yes think of shadows as large blocks you are better having fewer bigger one then lots of small shapes

There can be detail in a defined shape. You have effectively 'blocked in' where the shadows are and defined the graphic shape of them.

Don't use red for a shade, use it for light. A basic thing. You can always play with colours. Here, to give you an example, I would use a warmer colour, like a yellow above a lighter green while using a colder colour like blue on a darker green.

self confidence comes with setting a goal and completing it. asking for critique taking it and learning to improve. Someone saying they love your work to me is less important then a honest critique. I like to think of working on a drawing as practice for the next piece I am not working on yet.

I got here in 1 month of practice with a teacher who is the best in my city and top 10 in my country, top 50 in university adt teachers in Europe. 10 years of drawing before this spent on other stuff than the basics. Even if you think his art is 1000 times yours thats ok. In art school I would have break downs too comparing myself to others till I realized it doesn't matter so long as you are trying to do better then your last piece. Sometimes reading or listening to artist talks or podcast can give you inspiration to try something else. If you have trouble with structure or lighting then listen to talks about those things.
