@woven scarab that image about missing 10 seconds ago was exactly what i meant yes
holy shiet
Fuck me
and that ladies and gentlemen is why you don't let your stockpiles catch on fire
especailly when it's highly explosive
Does anyone actually believe it was firework factory
it wasn´t a factory
and you can see some Fireworks exploding in some videos
Aqui ...
fun fact this cloud of smoke isn't actually smoke, it's air being pressurized as the shock wave travels
actually no
ah i though i was wrong
no but, the white stuff
ammonium nitrate was the white stuff
wait we're talking about 2 difrent clouds
the cloud i was talking about was the one after the big explosion, traveling ahead of it
¯_(ツ)_/¯
@still plaza I believe that's the shockwave going supersonic
people from Cyprus near the coast heard the explosion
you can see it here too https://youtu.be/BUREX8aFbMs?t=10

3rd - money washing machine
Yeah
but why
This is propably my favorite video on the internet
I both hate and love it
any hoi4 player here? 😱
yes
I am having some issues in my last games... I always end up in stalements because of supplies
even after max all infraestructures & even transport planes
even when I have stronger armies than my enemy I can't push because of supplies
any ideas?
I would say just play defense for a while and let their resources diminish
but the AI doesnt attack me, maybe for the same reason or because my army is to strong so they don't even try It
they only thing that "fixes" the problem is to build tons of nukes and destroy their factories, but is so boring and time consuming
even more when I clearly have bigger and stronger armies
I can't really help
I hate the supply system in hoi4...
sometimes hoi4 is just like that
It needs a competition ha ha
Is there anyone using steam atm ? I keep failing trying to log in, it said can't connect to steam, is steam server down right now ?
hoi4 is dumb and sometimes I start a game because I forgot how bad it was and then immediately remember why I stopped playing it
yes

makes.......sense

@plain mountain It could be so much better, but idk what devs have in their heads ha ha
damn i just lost my lego stahlhelm
thats a yikes

Why power gotta be out in the middle of summer man?
In the winter I could curl up beside a fireplace, or hell, even warm up the whole house with the woodstove.
Bundle up in 3 layers of sheets. Cuddle with a lover if you have one.
Set a fire outside and roast some smores and maybe a kielbasa for food.
Freezer don’t got power? Easy, just put what needs to be frozen deep under the snow.
In the summer I swelter in the heat and humidity.
There is nothing to quell or even stave off the tyranny of the hot sun.
All perishables rot. There is nothing to cook your meals without adding to the problem of heat.
More reasons as to why summer is just the absolute worst season.
Should i buy rdr2 again?
if i dont
i have to wait 4 1/2 months till i can use my xbox again
if i do
i spend 71 dollars (on discount for 8 more days) for one of my favourite games
so
the question is
Do or Dont?
@eternal valley go outside
but the rona! No no no. Stay inside. cuddle up to your warm computer and play a few games. forever.
Does anyone actually believe it was firework factory
@oblique wave It wasn't, Storage yard with High explosive chemicals. Probably some form of military storage
@cosmic cliff according to the Lebanese government the fire started in a firework factory and then spread to a warehouse filled with several thousand tons of ammonium nitrate
oh right, yeah that's about right I thought you meant it was the factory that blew up
Obviously not Israel, when shits been blowing up or been set on fire left right and center by Israel in Iran and Syria the past month, crippling Lebanon's main port during its worst recession to essentially knock it out of play in the chess gaming going on...nah deffo accidental firework explosion xD
@cosmic cliff according to the Lebanese government the fire started in a firework factory and then spread to a warehouse filled with several thousand tons of ammonium nitrate
@oblique wave it was a ship filled with ammonium nitrate
Unless I’m mistaken
Obviously not Israel, when shits been blowing up or been set on fire left right and center by Israel in Iran and Syria the past month, crippling Lebanon's main port during its worst recession to essentially knock it out of play in the chess gaming going on...nah deffo accidental firework explosion xD
@cold dune I highly doubt any nation would sabotage a factory with basically no military value for the sole purpose of causing casualties.
220k people watching DrDisrespect on YouTube and it's just a CG still of his lambo at a garage lol
twitch effed up yeeting him
now all that viewership is gone straight to their competitor

@plain mountain https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsRVQWfqjms our favorite african warlord with a lecture
In the final stream, Sseth talks about the different ways to cure and prevent cancer, gives an entire immunology lecture and answers his chat's questions.

Want...
my man encouraging viewers to get an education
Isn't that the guy who ripped half of his DF review footage?
perhaps
sounds like a sseth thing to do
I mean, he suggests "trying" games openly so
wouldn't be too suprised if he did
seems about right for mint
@wraith sundial
feels engineered
Oh shit im in general
in normal stats we woudl discard this one as a troll submission
How are we to believe mint doesnt have any shitposter in him??
did see him push a FA all by himself tho
yo I’m pretty sure Netanyahu just admitted to having a hand in the Beirut explosion
thats not real right?!?
Yeah, like...
its about 2 days old
OK, so i did a google search
whatd you find. i havent been able to find anything excpet that tweet for some reason
just a bunch of other crap about netanyahu
the context was in regards to a syrian attack
https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/08/israel-netanyahu-warns-hezbollah-syria-attack-200804134620711.html atleast what i see
this place could be totally covering shit up, but thats what a preliminary search got me
nah, thats probably correct.
the israeli air raids in syria happened on the 3rd
they made that statement on the 4th which just happened to be a few hours after the explosion
looks whack but its probably correct
I was about to start freaking out that israel was going to start another war with lebanon over some dumb shit, like... bruh
honestly every country needs to just fuck off and focus on their own shit
israel included
im tired of all these countries trying to be the world police
-looks in china's general direction-
yeah exactly. everyone wants to be the world police now
china, america, israel, germany, blah blah blah
just leave each other alone
isolationism needs to make a comeback
China just want the Indian ocean... and probably the oil.
well, any cutthroat politician has to manage foreign policy to secure its borders, this means almost every state wanting a stable position will naturally try and come out on top
and maybe to become the world trading power just like the good ol days before american cheap labor ruined everything
Well thats mostly hyperbole. Western industrialism in general muscled china's position of world superpower away from it far before america became a thing
well, that's what happens when you give a former superpower immune to any external threat about 100 years of regression and constant struggle
on another note, 36 US politicians were recently charged with pedophilia crimes after one of ghislaine maxwell's lists got exposed
elite pedo ring is real
shocker
politicians will always be crooks, can't really expect more from them
this goes beyond just being a crook, but yeah
This is way beyond crook, it's devilry
When was this?
I think it's recent
im tired of all these countries trying to be the world police
everyone's so paranoid of wars after the clusterfuck of the early-mid 20th century that everyone started policing eachother, resulting in yet more conflict. ironic
It's funny, I'm very cynical about geopolitics and nations/governments fucking each other over, but I never for a second thought the Beirut explosion was an attack of any kind.
The M.O. is so completely different to how actual attacks go, you could've told me there was an actual weapons depot there by mistake and I'd believe that in good faith.
I didn't either until Serryll dropped that bomb. Knowing Israel's history with lebanon, i wasn't going to just discount the possibility without looking more into it.
Ofc a desperate Netinyahu on his limited window of opportunity between his timebomb of corruption and protesters and trump potentially being boosted out, you've already seen them target sites all over Iran and Syria over the past two months, some real brazen attacks
you dont think they want to cripple Lebanon economically in one easy sabotage of a careless seized shipemnt of epic porportions.
Lebanon is already screwed economcially and was always going to be the physical battleground between Saudi/Israel and Iran.
saudi and israel already tried taking the president hostage some months ago and have him say it was hizbollas fault but that literally got talked down by Macron IIRC, of all people.
Netayinahu is increasingly desperate to spark his hotwar with Iran
israel back at it again
I highly doubt that this is Israel's doing
ik im making a meme
Well I mean someone wanted to smash the port and seized a real simple opportunity, I doubt it was Hizbollah or any other governmental faction in Lebanon and wouldent have been Shia/Persia aligned actors
So really that leaves the Saudi/Likud/Murica camp.
or... you know... someone was dumb and something in the store house caught fire, which made its way to the munitions stockpile, which eventually made its way to the ammonium nitrate
Its up in the air to be sure
Sure sure, Id believe it in isolation
not when its the latest in a string of 'accidents'
across the region in security and infastructure
Here's the thing: what does anyone actually gain from this? Who could have reasonably set this up to happen the way it did?
There are way too many moving parts for a massive nitrate explosion
and it wasn't close to anything anyone especially wanted gone
I mean if it was some nefarious person, they coulda just blown it up without setting a fire
What does anyone have to gain from beiruts port being essentiallyo ut of commision possibly tipping a spiralling country into the abyss to join all the other once flourishing small nations now consignmed to the dustheap in the middle east and north africa?
Like, directly blown it up
Nah noone wants that 😄
Aside from putting a crucial port of the coat of cypres out of commission? Nothing really
What i mean is, assume someone wanted
A. The warehouse blown up
B. Lots of lebenese citizens killed
There are easier, cheaper, more straightforward ways of doing both of those things.
You all act like there isent a cold war between Israel/saudi and Iran atm
I think it’s still a bit too coincidental that the explosion happened as Lebanon was hitting a financial low
this shit isent happening in isolation.
That cold war is literally hotting up as we speak
and then this happens
thats too much coincidence.
wierder shit has happened
You know, America did bomb the heck out of an Iranian general
And surprisingly they aren’t at war with each other
And again, there are way too many moving parts. Consider past "false flag" or whatever, attacks. Like the USS Maine. Way simpler to pull off, even though it was kinda a hoax.
I feel like you guys dont observe middle eastern pollitics day to day no offence
lol
I’m just a kid who watches everything that happens on the news
Theres been strafing runs on iranian planes by israeli and american ones, droned generals, a string of fires, explosions and failures. Christ, a hizbollah commander gotk illed the other day
Yeah, im leaning on the side of fucked shit happens sometimes mostly because ive got 1 more year till this country cant draft my ass, and im beggin the middle east doesnt flair up again... cuz its gonna be hell getting russia out
This shit has been hotting up day by day for mooonths on end.
eh eitherway ;
😛 im just bored and want to argue
We all are
Things are never not hot. It's the hottest "cold war"
Politics is a mess
Furthermore,
we are literally in a discord about a war game, and we choose to spend time here. Of course we are bored
True but this LOOKs like sabotage casually passed off as accident ,just like what is it 10 or so other cases that are the same in iran and syria the past month or two.
There’s nothing I like about politics. Too many people bickering at each other to even care about the rest of the world around them
There are simply way more straightforward ways of accomplishing these things. We know this, because nations have done attacks to do these things but they never use a nitrate explosion to do it.
Occams razor blah blah blah
That's the thing.
There's honestly not much suspicious about this
It doesn't really look like sabotage
Nitrate explosions happen every now and again, and they're incredibly devastating.
Every time
Firecrackers going off that lead to huge amonium nitrate pile next door? I dunno sounds like the kind of crappy cover story you make when you dont REALLY care and just need flimsy denial, which is all anyone needs nowdays
ala everything Russia or Saudi or Israel do thats underhanded geopolitically.
i think those were bullets, actually
And it's always the fault of poor safety and handling practices
Fairenough though it is a once decent country failing to massive corruption and protest
Basically Australia gets invaded by some country
could obviously have been an accident just seems deeply suspicious in its timing to me in multiple ways.
And these kids who were out in the outback didn’t realise it until they came back
thats why i jumped on that tweet
Being the middle east, when would it have not been suspicious to happen?
Like be real
And so they now start fighting a survival/gurreila warfare
im begging to be proven wrong on my suspisions
Any time in the past or future 10 years, it would've been surrounded by shady shit happening all over the region. Because that's the world we live in right now.
Right but right now is a key moment where a lot is happening beacuse one side have chance
I dunno, it did mention in one of the books that they used a truck full of ammonium nitrate to blow up the enemy’s major port
Why is it a key moment?
Whislt Netinyahu and Trump/Kushner stay in power neither groups having long potentially
they have their window and have clearly shown it beacuse they have made a lot of sweeping political moves as well as stepped up active attacks on Iranian infastructure and mllitary sites.
Cant say they ARENT making a play or atleast seriously thinking about it more and more.
what
It's incredibly divergent from this pattern of attacks
That's why it fits the current pattern
??????
?????
its all still just about plausible denability stuff, the sabotages and ooops dronestrikes. A way to slap down lebanon and make it more suspecitble to western aid packages and all that jazz to wean it off its Iranian leanings eeh im too high and drunk to properly unpack this
and im doing a terrible job
So ill concede defeat before i look stupid 😄
That's the thing. That stuff happens all the time. But, nations do these things for relatively logical reasons, through relatively logical methods, to achieve relatively logical goals.
Assuming this was an attack, it wasn't done through a logical method, and I can't think of a reasonable goal.
Cripple their major port?
Final point then ill try argue concisely, you dont think a cripplign economic blow to Lebanon is a rational strategic goal?
The contention is that because it's the middle east, where sketchy shit happens, this major thing that happened is the result of sketchy shit
Lebanon is as I say the battleground between them and it is of uncertain loyalties in where it would ultimetly come out. The more it fails the more it turns against Hizbollah(?).
I dunno.
For whom? For whom does an unstable Lebanon benefit?
probably anyone against israel
^
The invader?
The Anti-Israel side for sure. Gives Hezbollah lots of ammo and unrest to work with.
But, this is such an inefficient way to do that.
Nations have tried to do this before, with much more rational methods.
This is super hard to pin on the Israelis, for one.
So if they did want to do this, they woulda just done an air strike?
Who wanted to do what exactly?
again, The contention is that because it's the middle east, where sketchy shit happens, this major thing that happened is the result of sketchy shit
That port that got blown makes up like 90% of Lebanon’s imports or something
But the potential actors don't benefit directly from the predictable effects, and the method is as cumbersome as they come
How long will it take to fix?
Obviously the cratered area will take months
But the rest of the port? back online within a week, tops.
So your saying that the method they employed doesn’t make sense/isn’t really conventional? If they did do this
Plus, why would you detonate something so far away from the actual shipping intake area? Where the most imports are physically offloaded?
uh... maybe? I haven seen any satellites images or anything, but from what i understand the whole port is out of commission. All the infrastructure is fucked.
Yeah. It was literally an entire warehouse of nitrates. Think about how cumbersome it is to buy, move and store all that nitrate. When you could just use a conventional bomb or sabotoge, and get a hit directly on the actual target, supposedly the port.
They didn’t buy that nitrate
Right now, yes. Much of the port is leveled or otherwise destroyed.
The Lebanese confiscates it from I believe Hezbollah
And then for some reason left it all in a warehouse
And it just happened, then, to be stored at this warehouse?
Waiting for something to tick
Again, consider how many tons of this stuff there was. Well over 2k
i mean... logically it seems like a good place to go
Think about just the sheer number of trucks, and time it takes, to move all that.
major port where military is porbably stations
Like you said, in the Middle East there’s a lot of shady shit
And this is the most backwards ass, airport-spy novel, convoluted scheme to accomplish anything.
That also has incredible collateral damage BTW
makes for good tv if anything
Leaving hundreds if not thousands of tons of Amonium nitrate in a wharehouse is some shady shit
though, maybe we are taking this the wrong way? Maybe israel is trying to... help? by swinging anti-syrian support and getting the civil unrest pointed in a productive direction?
God all this stuff sounds like something out of a movie or a novel
No, that sounds like regular human incompetence
Despite the fact that it's incredibly dangerous, this is far from the first or last time this has happened
Texas city 1947
china 2015
Anyways
Let’s talk about China
1 is where the explosion happened
oooooh shit\
2 is where the majority of misc goods are unloaded
Nono I’m not having a hissy fit about Xi Jinping
Why would they plot to destroy site 2 with an explosion from site 1?
Also: "Port of Beirut temporarily closed" yeah I bet lol
hes a brilliant bastard whose dangerously well equiped to re-establish china as the dominent world power.
yeah, that makes more sense seeing the unloading area
Assuming the world keeps going just right for him.
slight damage at a max
yeah, if the world just keeps turning a blind eye, then sure
hes got that down
Anyways I heard one or more of Xi’s general doesn’t like his actions
China has benefited from decades of favorable treatment by the US, World Bank, EU, ect. That have helped him transform the country. But I don't think his economy is resilient as he would like it to be.
Here's a fun paradigm: in an economic security sense, it is usually better to be an importing country, rather than an exporting country, in a total GDP sense
if we start... you know... punishing the country for literally stealing sovereignty from under the noses of other nations, we gots ourselves a war, frens.
It'll literally never happen, unless China balkanizes itself
i think a ground war in china would be absolute hell for any invading countries
Yes
i dont know maaaan... Chinas got a mightly long history of breaking itself up
China says that the south China seas was like rightfully theirs as it had been for millennium
I don't see them breaking up any time soon.
Like as if anyone cares about maritime rights from two thousand years ago
china is high functioning autistic
Also, something to keep in mind guys
i wish
Where is everyone from here? Generally? I'm from Texas.
Australia
tennessee
Is it safe to assume everyone else lives in the West?
chicago public library
Yeah
we can all talk shit about china
That, generally, "The West" and China, don't understand each other on a cultural level.
Well.......
Much of our fundamental assumptions about people, communities, cultural touchstones, ect, simply don't apply.
Your right about one thing
im gonna be honest, most people from the west think china is full commie when its starting to de-communism a bit
the economy is more capitalist than it was
That works both ways. They think we're mostly crazy assholes I'm sure.
Except I have some friends I know who are actually Chinese/Asian
Heck I’m Asian myself I’m born in Indonesia
It's deeper than "China's commie hur dur." Even though we have lots of chinese media to consume, even if we all read it, it would be difficult to really understand what China "thinks" or "wants"
We can make assumptions, but they're likely to be wrong on at least some level
the economy of china is not "capitalistic". It is controlled extemely by the government on maters of principle, and is rewarded for its ability to privately compete for the benefit of everyone
the chineese government has control over the media
So you can’t really determine their goals
It is privately owned, but controlled by the party in many ways
I don't mean to find out the truth, I just mean to understand what the people and the state think and want. That's not impossible to do under state media at all.
Its just harder to get here in the states, because a lot of out thinking leaves out the last 30 years of development
China doesn't, and doesn't need to, operate within the confines of what western countries would or should do in their position.
like... people still think that market liberalization will lead to the fall of communism
That's hard to get your head around.
Exactly. We all thought that.
And then it didn't
it wont
Although, that one thing happened at the place with the tanks. That started from something, even if it was suppressed.
it lead to the event that china insists didnt happen
yeah
that was the moment the cards were left on the table
I don’t think China would be able to last this long
it technically worked... but they said no, this isnt happening. not here
Maybe for the next few decades yeah
Anyway, China's economy currently relies on incredibly massive government spending, guidance, and exports. The rest of the world buying their stuff basically.
and they have no alternatives
When China's govt stops doing massive spending and guidance/direction, it stops being China as we know it, so let's not touch that for now.
this is a huge reason china has such a vested interest in slowing india down
China has two ways to get out of needing the rest of the world to buy their shit. Currently we buy their shit because it's economical, but that won't last forever and they know that.
this is why china has opened up
- Generate a large enough consumer (middle) class, that domestic consumption of goods can meet domestic production of goods. Currently, China's people are not rich enough, on the whole, to totally satisfy their economy.
- Grab the balls of the world supply chain in some way, making them an irreplaceable part of the world economy.
Basically, they either lean into their domestic economy, or they lean into the world economy hard and fast enough that nobody can cut them out.
Currently, they're def leaning into the domestic side.
Or, at least, I'm pretty sure they are. They're certainly burning all the poorly made, amateur bridges they built with nations all over Asia and Africa.
(Minor effects of always being a hegemon, and your only foreign policy being based on tributaries rather than trade or rivalries)
I'm not sure how much they've tried to adapt to the western way of diplomacy, and how much they're making it their own recently by being aggressively nationalistic to other nations through their diplomats.
Have you ever watched Kraut?
Nope, never heard of that
really?
Well you might like one of the video essays he did a little while ago
Well... this took longer than expected.
I am sorry you had to wait so long for me to finish this video, I had some reading to do, then write the video, record the audio, and then the editing itself, which took a month and two weeks. But then again, you voted for this video.
A...
Its a really long watch, but goes into some good detail.
Jesus tittyfucking christ that's a 1 hour video
It is pretty comprehensive
id say listen to it, follow the footnote trail, and then form a conclusion, cuz this video along with the supplementary research is where i got a lot of my understanding about what china has been up to.
and, more damningly, how we have been exacerbating the problem.
That's kinda an understatement eh?
China relies a lot on the Bretton woods system that was founded after world war two
More-or-less enabling them to grow so fast
More precisely, an exploitation of that system @real swift
but so does most of the world besides the US, who created bretton woods to win the cold war
Yeah, it's literally the foundation of modern U.S. Hegemony.
but with the US becoming disenfranchised with the idea of being a global power we could very well see an end of the bretton woods system, its outgrown its use, no point using a tool to fight an enemy who is decades gone
honestly, I don't think it's going anywhere.
Partially because (sue me) I think Trump is too surface level to actually change it in a meaningful way
Trump may have just unintentionally technically tried to ban financial payments to Riot Games, Epic Games, League of Legends, Valorant, Fortnite, and half the gaming industry by clamping down on Tencent
3035
12686
And theres no real power that could replace it
If that happens
that will be a show to be sure
That's the thing: The American People have always loathed the idea, ambivalent at best, of being a world power
Mhm
Economically, Politically, Structurally, we're set up to be the world power for the forseeable future
So, public opinion can be whatever it wants
Yeah exactly
well, world power in the sense that anything we do or say reflects on the rest of the world
The US is a world power that has no major global interest
and that we hate that dichotomy as a people in general
But the dollar will remain the world's foundational currency, freedom of the seas will remain the de-facto law, and so on. Because it's the foundation of American supremacy and I honestly don't think a grassroots movement could dismantle it if they wanted to.
there is nothing that can truely harm the US with the fact that the major thing was oil imports, which the US is now a net exporter of
The US has ties everywhere, but no real desire to be anywhere other than on an island
thats fair
And all non-grassroots movements benefit from it
I personally have been following the geopolitical analyst peter zeihan
/orgs /entities
Guy speaks facts and he has a pretty good track record of calling shit out before it happens
Yeah lobbying groups are a big power in the US
It's why I like geopolitics, generally. It feels much more objective than regular politics.
Yeah
I also like looking at the demographics of china
Because when you have a one china policy 25 years ago you tend to run out of 25 year olds
Ynno?
Dude the actual insanity of the current demographigal collapse is fucking insane and I can't believe nobody is talking about it
I KNOW
i feel like that feeling of objectivity has a lot to do with the American education system in general being piss poor as preparing you for a world that doesn't consist of America on a sea of migrant workers.
The only major nation that is immune to its effects for at least one or two more decades
Is the united states
And france,
oh also New Zealand
nobody teaches geopolitics outside of college. It's too depressing and niche for the average person anyway.
But thats it
I only just recently got interested and discovered... like... things exist outside of the country
holy shit
I still credit EU4 to this day for my impeccable geography skills
The 3 main nations with stable demographics is the US, France, and New zealand
Thats why i look more to france than germany
NZ getting lots of asian migrants or something? Why not Australia?
Also, I'd expect Germany to at least try to change that. They literally invited fucktons of turks right after the second world war for demographic reasons, so.
As i recall, china has a really big interest in australia
BUT LIKE, AT THE SAME TIME
HOW THE FUCK IS THE WORLD EVEN GOING TO WORK IN 50 YEARS?
Lucky bastard getting to use caps all you want
How the fuck is the world going to work with a population that's stagnant? Literally unprecedented in recorded history.
hehe mod perks
uh... not really?
Also most likely an entirely new economic ism, @atomic meteor
DUDE
so taxes are a thing right? That gap between the Big and small bar? Means less tax money
The world's population is going to fucking shrink pretty soon
Less tax money means holy shit economy go AAAAA
and THE MAJORITY OF IT WILL BE OLD, RETIRED, GETTING PENSIONS AND NOT WORKING
like
Yes
HOW IS THAT GOING TO WORK
Demographic collapse is terrifying
I love talking about it because people dont realize the world and the global economy will most likely collapse in a decade
i'd hope our technology levels will be at something that we can't comprehend in our era
Maybe less because COVID honestly speeds it up
cmon, singularity 2050
It's even nearer than the climate crisis
honestly with covid
The correct answer is tax rich and corporations more as automation increases to cover temporary relative rise in pensions. Because it's the correct answer, we won't do it and will try at all costs to do anything else.
I could see it happening around 2030
Im still waiting on transhumanist tech to come out
so basically the entire world collapses not because a disaster or anything but because everyone becomes and old fart and dies/retires?
@atomic meteor can we talk about the US having no foreign policy for 3 presidents?
Sure anti terrorism
But thats a single issue
After the cold war the US just sat there like “ok time to not change anything for 24 years”
Ahh, imagine being the most powerful country on the planet, having no foreign policy for 24 years and 3 full presidential terms, and still being the most powerful country on the planet
fuck yeah
Weve all forgotten what a foreign policy is.
i think that sort of ties back to everyone just flocking around the us for the bast 100 years
I have zero faith in our current political leadership, on either side, to competently solve our current near or long term problems
lol
I don't wanna get into how the American political system is currently paralyzed and I don't see a way out of it . . . we were talking about demographics, right?
I wish we had an advanced enough political system to be able to have more that 2 sides without ruining everything for everyone
Yeah fuck the NFA
Also it doesn’t help that the Coalitions we call political parties are currently in flux
thats why they are paralyzed rn
They are grasping for new large voting blocs to support their parties
that's the thing. Not accounting for parties in the constitution guarantees a two party system
idk, sure does suck rn
but you're riht
*right
neither side has a bedrock base right now
Its more that we never considered the alternatives until it was too late
yeah it sucks while its happening
but it’ll pass
what sucks is congress not having term limites
probably because the electoral college was supposed to be the clincher
so much of the us is absolutely sick of the current parties, neither party can do anything but cater to their extremes
But the cool thing is,
Nobody has a blue collar voting bloc anymore
34 states agree and they can call a constitutional convention to make an ammendment
Yeah, they do. They are the farmers
I honestly hope one or more of the parties collapses sooner rather than later so someone can remake them from the ground up
That's the thing: at least one of the parties (preferably the democrats) needs to be completely rebranded/rebuilt. But I don't see anyone in a position to do it. Might change soon though.
Mhm
it would be whatever. It would make the house of representative the body it was always meant to be. the voice of the people.
Someone with charisma (like god emperor Teddy Roosevelt) could probably do it
Kinda why I'm so dissapointed in Biden as a pick . . . like, Hillary was a turd, but this guy is a wet blanket. Just as "Status McQuo"
hes also a political time bomb
yeah that kind of strong, uniting leader with a broad well supported platform
God, 2016 was such a roller coaster
I dont think its happening. If my gut is telling me anything. weve got 4 more years of this schmuk
Fucking Hillary called the campaign for Trump before CNN. I felt like I was watching a parody.
Lmao
god please dont let it happen again
Mhm
that is true
there's some serious heat rn. He is, so, so, so not doing himself any favors
honestly, its gonna come down to voter apathy
ive actually been to a rally of his, and he commanded that place man
frankly, if theres any bloc to not vote, its the people who think masks are the tits and work
Mhm
If he could just stop saying like every month "Don't worry about the virus, it'll go away," that might help
A lot of blunders recently
the crazies who didnt care will be at the polls like usual
Yeah trump has catering to his base down to a damn science
Cringe as hell but I totally get why so many people diefy him
Covid response was fucked because it was legit this
Federal Govt: so u gonna handle this right
State Govt: i thought u were gonna do it?
insert 3 months of no action
Yeah
Just so many fuckups after fuckups
US is very good at dealing with shit on the local level
this is why i want my state to grow a pair of fucking balls and succeed
Federal level it takes time to get shit done
It's retarded because we have these, like, federal organizations? Called , FEMA? And, like, the CDC?
And yet the federally organized response has been shit
But when it happens? It happens with the force of the american economy
That's the thing: locally controlled emergency management is great for stuff like flooding, hurricanes, so on.
It doesn't fucking work for a pandemic.
It just doesn't
Lmao
I just can't believe that he's basically said "your on your own states have fun"
See.. ive always been a grass roots sort of dude. Im lucky to live in a pretty big city with lots of money. I look to my governer and my mayor WAY more than i do to the feds
He deals with his critics in such a childish way i find it funny as hell
because those guys actually might care about what we little folks think needs doing
feds couldnt give two licks about what me, or even my state needs or wants
It's great here in Texas too, the governor is literally flip-flopping between "let the local government agencies handle it" and "we can't let local agencies mandate masks or close businesses because that would upset a Karen"
no way
It feels like he goes back and forth every damn day
Tbf the CDC was fucked out of being prepared by the medical industry
so fuck it. Imma just hang out in my little town here and pray to god i dont gotta get the gun
Also, no actual leadership from his ass. Just pushed it all on the local agencies, but stepped in to fuck them over when he gets a chance to cater to karens.
legit couldn’t get supplies because companies didn’t want to allow them to get a really good product that was cheap and useful
So they bought the company making it
Then took the CDC contract
In Texas, emergency management has to start and end with the local agency
And again, this works great for hurricanes, shootings, flooding, whatever. Geographically constrained emergencies, relatively.
But pandemic response HAS to happen at a high level, because people constantly move between local authorities and there aren't enough cops in all the world to enforce a county by county quarantine
all your messages are coming in like ever 3 minutes all at once @real swift
Anyway: long story short
The game was rigged from the start
Yeah
But the issue with that
US is really good with dealing with crisis on the state level
Not the federal level
US federal government just isn’t fast enough to deal with it
lmao
Yes
im sorry dyno my phone is dying
I knew it! You mods were rigging it
@atomic meteor really cool thing doe. This is random, but uhhh, Mexico is now a much better trade parter with the US than canada has been, and Canada is now more of an industrial competitor than a partner
This will be interesting to see the consequences of
Generally. But even if 47 continental states do it perfectly, if one state fucks it up the pandemic spreads. That's how it works. You have to have top-down control to stop the spread, or all you can do is state level mitigation and response.
With canada also not having a very stable time with them having to funnel money to quebec to keep them in canada, and now the provinces who are having money taken from them for this (Alberta) are now wantin to leave
Huh. I somehow doubt that Canada is a competitor in any way, simply based on demographics. Maybe in a niche way. But Mexico getting better is always a good thing.
I'm still just like
wow
can't believe I'm going to live through like 2-3 major global societal uphevals
pretty neat man
I feel like a member of the greatest generation
but with less racism
You know, one day we'll tell this story to our kids when we grow old
maybe our grandkids if we are lucky
Well
Id say demographic collapse is an upheaval lmao
But demographic collapse is very much lessened in the US
Interesting tidbit about USMCA or NAFTA2 is that
(o_O)?
Canada didn’t get much say in it
Maybe im misunderstanding the idea of Demographic collapse. Is this the theory that the less homogeneous a group becomes, the more unstable it becomes?
Mexico and America did most of the negotiations
you never know you never know
you cant go a century without at least seeing some shit
There's no telling how resource paradigms are going to change soon, either with the further proliferation of renewables or the possible discovery of h3 on the moon or possible asteroid mining.
Though that last bit is super out there
Climate change is on, but i feel like that will be less of a society ender as much as it will be a great unifier
I mean, it's not like the apocalypse is gonna happen
but it's going to be crazy drastic change, and relatively fast
tragedy tends to do that to humans
nope, that's not it @neat holly
Damn i hate my phone rn, i wanna vibe with the boys with an epic discussion about demographic collapse and geopolitics but its not lettin me😢
Demographic collapse is simply . . . . well, ya know how we used to think the world population would reach like 100 billion by 2050? @neat holly
population dynamics?
rip
How population has absolutely skyrocketed since the industrial revolution
Well, we realized that's stopped happening.
and the idea that we are over correcting or something?
It happened first in Japan and Europe, and at first we thought it was cultural
probably not intentionally, but still
But now we see that it's a universal trend. It's happening to all nations over the world, some sooner or faster than others.
The rate at which our population is growing is slowing drastically, and it might even shrink eventually. Currently, we think it'll peak around 2050 at 10 billion.
well there's not much of anywhere to really spread to now
While that contraction happens, the world population will for the first time ever be majority old rather than majority young
I dont think that will result in a collapse assuming technology continues on the path its on
Consider for a moment what that means
Fewer people entering the workforce, doing entry level jobs, working at my taco bell
many, many, many more old people, retired, not contributing to the economy, but taking pensions every month
All the while, for the first time our economies can't rely on a growing population for guaranteed consumption.
It's completely unprecedented in recorded history. Populations, economies, barring some exceptions have always slowly grown over time.
It's especially unthinkable in a post-industrial world, where economies constantly grow exponentially
wow chill out dyno
yeah, see... this chat room aint big enough for our big brains
It won't be a collapse of civilization, but it is a complete collapse of all demographic assumptions we've ever made as a species
Additionally, our modern economies are fundamentally based on year-on-year growth.
Also, one thing i think we all forget is that the economy of a nation, atleast today, is free floating and basically a measure of... well faith really
Is that even possible with a stagnant population?
shs aleksander
You're thinking of GDP/stocks. The economy, on a granular level, is "are people able to find jobs, get paid, and buy things"
that's very concrete
im tryna read a real conv
jeeze ok
the prevailing theory currently for why the demographic collapse is happening is because of greater education, contreception, and generally better opportunities for Women worldwide.
Sure. I don't think money will collapse as an idea.
Get clap by Uber drive ex army sgt and a furry
no no, you misunderstand. the economy is a religion, in the broadest sense. and money is sort of the measure of that faith. Value is only dictated by the faith one has in that idea
economies dont exclusivally grow due to any productivity
atleast not anymore
they grow because we say it does
Yes, borrow and spend, you plebs
productivity does need initial capital to kick it off
In a more real way, sure, but on a practical level, it might as well be a dart board
Industrial innovations increase productivity, but what happens when demand doesn't rise because there simply aren't enough people to consume it all?
uh, price tanking
We're talking about the impending demographic collapse @cursive solar
Nothing really. Consumer markets only make up a fraction of the wealth of a nation
Though, it is something to tackle
the real problem is the confrontation we will inevitably have to face with that faith based money system. That being that when the needs of the people outweight the value of the dollar, it tanks
It all comes back to consumers and consumption. Everything. All capital improvements are to increase production, assuming that it will then be consumed. We don't have parts of the economy based on things not being consumed
I mean... the money market is literally that
also anything involving data is a non consumable consumable
What is it tied to?
nothing
Stonks
Oh, do you mean like buying and selling different currencies?
yes, but one level up
buying and selliung currency IS a good, but money is not a good
it is not, and it happens every day
Yeah it's wierd but it's worked this far and I don;t see why it would change
There's literally entire markets built around buying money
that sounds very productive
it's because you're buying different currencies for other different currencies @errant sentinel
right im retarded
Which is why i dont think we are going to face any economic collapse
it's ok we're all 2 braincells away from retard here
lool
don't worry, ya'll 2 braincells ahead of most people
So anyway
me no understand me want smash rock and invade sealand
gonna go buy some MREs and clean my guns I think
MREs are alright
depend on wich country
american MRE crackers tho
i heard US one aren't that good
US one's have very DRY crackers my dude
i have a friend in the military who says the MRE's arent too bad
used to throw in little mini bottles the size of yer thumb
no more tho
yeah they're just fine
online friend
miss me with that moderne shit gib me my 1860 civil war qpoiled beef can
i do wonder wich country MRE are the tastiest?
I'd rather gamble with the american crackers rather than the chinese bricks the great wall is made of though
they have a maple syrup steak MRE
WAT
yeah
they have nice packaging and everything
me look at tartiflette MRE
but forreal, you MREphiles:
If you eat an MRE, make sure you eat ALL of it. They're meant to be eaten as a complete meal, so if you don't eat all the sides and even the dessert you're missing out on stuff and you might've well as bought a better tasting civvie dry meal.
dont say shit about sugar and meat fool
Candy bars don't count I mean like when they include muffin tops
even the tootsie rolls?
candy are supposed to be eaten on the walk right?
Dude
they're for whenever you want. It's candy. You see any "no candy zone" signs around?
Maple syrup on steak sound shit
Listen
If you're gonna eat stake its with steak sauce or hot sauce
You uncultured swine
yeah in any school
You commie scum
1v1

bet
no, the spinach omlette is apparently one of the worse canadian MREs
MREs are good
had a couple in idaho once
I think I got like sloppy joes and a burger
bruh you havent eaten raw shit until you have tasted the "joue de porc" or pig cheek
People say they clog yer asshole, but that's only partially true
one, or two, or three MREs are fine
If you eat nothing but MREs for like a week though? Hope your colon has calluses
MREs are like, only meant to be stand-ins for out in the field until you get to a field kitchen (in theory anyways)
all of them EXECPT joue de porc
in practice it probably varies if you get nothing but MREs for a week or more
yeah that's a capital "I" "T" in theory there
You guys talking about MREs?!?
no we're talking about uhhh
bruh do like snake eat some MRE and a few dead spetnaz and maybe one bat
MaRinE
MREs are just edible marines
TASTY
not true
they only come in crayon flavor though
I've never seen an MRE include crayons so
"so paramedic.... how does it taste"
you little fuck you beat me to the crayon joke

nice hiss
marine mre is crayons
well, they probably have some combat enhancing chemicals in them
like a american shoca kola
i do like the crayons tho
so says Chesty, out lord and savior
yes
no, they had to make special govt brand "Colored Wax Drawing Implements" for 30x as much from a contractor
The regular crayola crayons melted too much 😦
30x as much
good use of tax money
This Snake may be old, but he can remember conversations; especially ones dealing with (Rose's) cooking.
nahh they don't do the 'ole "crack to the pilots to stay awake" deal anymore
snake and the colonel spitting fact and noledge
most you'll see is caffine pills
Although, I did hear about methanphetamine pills for some ultra long range pilots before, but that was back in the 80s
I can believe that
yeah the US never went full "Let's just literally meth the fuck out of our entire battlegroup" like the Germans
meth for warden when
I'd like to believe that somewhere out there in a parallel universe there's a alternate version of girl's last tour with the two encountering a cache of anphetamines
and immediately OD'ing
and the rest of the episode is just 3 minutes of spasms, frothing, and then silence for 10 minutes on a fixed camera shot
no plz n
then straight to credits
that could be a weird episode
well, it's as good as the canon ending
or the start of a really weird doujins
all countries experimented with meth pills to some degree for combat weariness, but as far as I can tell it was mostly the axis powers who really went through with it
@jovial carbon No.
shit
they kinda needed every advantage they could get, I guess
i guess it stop the hunger
next up: heroin
though some finnish guy downed like his entire squad's allowance of meth and then lived on literally nothing but treesap and a single bird he shot, after living through a landmine and evading escape several times
wait shit we already did that
well, when you don't have enough night flying training due to a lack of fuel, I guess you've got to mitigate somehow
finns are scary
crackhead soldier are the most fearsome
Finns don't count as canon, half their shit consists of captured or repurposed equipment
morphine is just super heroin
wait no heroin is super morphine
Suddenly, all those "Florida Man" stories make much more sense
lol
if finns were in cadia, they would've killed chaos space marines and stolen their bolters, taken their power armor apart for spare parts and captured a destroyer to evacuate the collapsing planet
If you just think of Meth as, like, ghetto super soldier pills
bruh no idiot would try to use chaos equipement cuz that's hella not epic
super getho pills?
*ghetto super pills
that's how CJ infiltrated area 51
cuz they don't work that good, wear off quick, and make you lose your teeth
make more sense
crazy drug stories consists of things like "man keeps running after deep wounds in the thigh near a critical blood vessel, keeps running until passing out over a 30 minute chase"
cheese
it worked, until you realize it's 1944 at ostfront and you're in battlegroup center
fun times.
fun times
funt times
arguably as good as it gets as the axis powers
its more efficient than vibe crystal whatever that bullshit is
hey, at least you don't get 'mystery meat' like your ww1 PTSD stricken father to have as a potential last meal
M E A T
every meal is a potential last meal if u think about it
mmmyes rally to the artillery calibration tree and suffer 97% casualty rate
you can choke and die easily
haha look at the monkey who typed too many caps ahahhahaha
get fuuuuuuuuuuuuuckd
97% ? total victory!
entente moment
space marines be like
stfu 1v1 uno

fuk

cringe
alr
?
bruh

was gonna be a funny meme but bot says no fun allowed
I leave for 10 minutes to watch a lecture, and i come back to this?!?
yes
BRuh
nobody expects the spanish inquisition
@errant sentinel one day you enter Home after playing with your Friends for the last time

this is bruhole after all
Imaginary friends count
So today is a new day fens. What did you learn yesterday
suicide is painless
I learned that Nicotine is not a cancer causing agent
Wait today is a new day?
nic- what
yeah, Nicotine, as a chemical, is not a cancer causing agent
Mostly the other chemicals that float around in tobacco including NNN
more specifically NNN
No nut november?
no nicotine november
Naw, its... uuuu
United ultramarine unicorn union?
