Your alignment on its own doesn’t affect the story that drastically apart from some different dialogue here and there, as well as Jaesa’s dialogue and demeanor. As far as the gear, it’s really only what’s on the dark/light vendors that requires a certain alignment (apart from some random world drops)

I would advise against using the free boost as that puts you at level 70 and skips all story before Onslaught. That’s best for players who have done all the stories before

Your alignement isn’t fixed every activity give some alignment. PVP is the fastest way to gain alignment I think when your max lvl.
The point is you’re not capped in alignment point even after the end of the story so you can still farm for light side or dark side after.
