honestly f2p you get one skill I would suggest gathering skill rather than crafting... as for why, each crafting skill is going to require materials from gathering and mission skills that you won't have so you will be paying a lot for materials Artiface uses Archeology and Treasure hunting and Synthweaving uses Archeology and Underworld trading.
If i was to become a subscriber
which skill is better artifice or synthweaving
as my crafting skill
depends on what you want... Artiface crafts dyes, crystals, lightsabers and more https://swtorista.com/articles/swtor-artifice-crafting-guide/ while synthweaving does armor (of certain types) and other items https://swtorista.com/articles/swtor-synthweaving-crafting-guide/

are the artifice lightsabers any good
and is the synthweaving armor any good
which has a bigger jump in quality from crafted armor/lightsaber when compared to armor/lightsabers gotten from completing class missions
also the class missions are only the first part of the story and level increases... F2P has through Shadow of Revan but there is a huge amount of content even past that the crafting covers through I believe level 70 (there hasn't been an increase from what I understand since that one for that level
Yeah crafters got kinda neglected this xpac
Synthweaving. I think F2P players won’t be able to use the crafted color crystals because they’re artifact grade. (Correct me if I’m wrong.) And they only sell for about 500,000 creds on the GTN. But with Synthweaving you can craft high-level augments that sell for about 40,000,000 creds.
And how will a f2p player be able to make said augments if they can’t do the things that give the items they need to craft them?
Most materials can be purchased in the Cartel Bazaar, if I remember correctly.
F2P can’t have more than one million creds in their inventory anyway. But at least they’ll be in the escrow, available if one chooses to subscribe later on.
