if you have many alts with various crew skills, you can run grade 11 slicing mission "Off the Radar", sometimes (1 of 4 or 1 of 5 times) it brings you random purple grade 11 mission unlocks, then you run these missions, and they often bring you some embers (you need lvl 50 companion to increase the chance and fasten the mission)
you can also buy those missions unlocks on GTN, but they're ovepriced and it's cheaper to buy embers from GTN than those unlocks
just don't spend tech fragments on embers, it's a waste of tech fragments =) if you have spare tech fragments, buy OEM or RPM, then you can sell them and buy a lot of embers
