As part of a Final Paper on Social Media, I am analyzing interractions on SWTOR. Yes, it sounds strange, but it's really the case 🙂 !

Then, if you feel like it, I have 2-3 questions that would help me to write my work:

credit When you started the game, were you already a Star Wars fan, or did it come later?
credit How did you choose your avatar(s)?
(why light side or dark side, why this class, why this face)?
credit And do you find yourself in your avatar, or is it a role?

Thank you in advance!

  1. Before I started SWTOR I was already heavily invested in Star Wars media, and heard occassional things from Old Republic lore. I had some friends that played SWTOR and when they asked me to try out the game I figured why not.
  2. I chose a dark side character because I personally feel like the dark side choices in the game are far more interesting and have a more meaningful outcome. I also like making a character that actually feels kind of feared instead of being the hero of the day like in most games
  3. It's 100% role, would be a little messed up if it weren't xP

  1. I'm a very casual fan, not good at Star Wars lore, just enjoyed the original trilogy and Timothy Zahn's books, then my friend showed me KOTOR and SWTOR. I'm more interested in SW universe since my acquaintance with the game, but still not heavily.

  2. I prefer playing LS/neutral/pragmatic DS characters in all games. It feels better, it's more rewarding if not in terms of money than in terms of reputation, and i like to resolve problems via conversations if possible =)
However, I prefer mostly Imperial classes because it feels more challenging and interesting.
As for classes, I played all origin stories, but for combat styles I prefer stealthers because of convenience. I play mostly solo, so it's DPS specs.
Speaking of character's appearance, I'm afraid I just follow my tastes and make boringly pretty characters.

  3. A role I can relate to. I doubt I could be as brave as my LS chars or do what my DS chars believe is right "by any means necessary", but it's what i can imagine. I can't play a DS maniac just for the sake of DS points.

  1. I’ve been an O.G. original Star Wars geek since 1977, having seen A New Hope way back when it first came out. My little 4-year-old mind was blown and I’ve been sticking with Star Wars ever since.

  2. If by “avatar” you mean “character,” then my main character’s basically a SWTOR version of me, at least my main character (Jedi Guardian). My alts are a bit more varied and diverse.

  3. It’s a bit of both, really. My main character’s obviously not me, and I’m obviously not a former Republic soldier and Galactic War veteran who found out he was Force-sensitive, became a Jedi, ended up falling to the dark side and being a Sith Lord (a Darth, no less), then was redeemed to the light side and to balance in the Force. But there’s a lot of me and my own personal journey written into my characters, especially my main character. His quirks and imperfections (like mine) are what makes him more down to earth and relatable.
