#Is this thumbnail good for my newest YouTube video?

it feels a little busy, but tier list thumbnails are difficult to do
first impression? it feels busy and the logo is just small enough to be more clutter rather than information. what are you thinking of titling the video?
The title will be similar to the thumbnail
Called "Plants Vs. Bloons TIER LIST - Ranking Every Plant From Worst to Best!"
when making a thumbnail i can be a good practice to make it with the title so you can be sure there isnt redundant info in both
maybe simplify the thumbnail a little bit because the info is already in your title?
I made some decent edits for the video
And it's a long-term video
Like 25 minutes plus
Thanks for sharing it in the right channel ๐
Personally, I'd blur out the entries, because someone can just look at the thumbnail and get the gist of the video, and you want that mystery allure to get them into the video. Similarly to what Lopi said, it is more than a bit busy. I would remove the assets on the left entirely and many just have the on-screen text read, "TIER LIST".
Explaining about the current meta
One way to simplify the thumbnail may be to keep the sideways tier list as the background (but blur it), then have the machine gun plant on the right side of the screen (possibly with a white outline/stroke around it). Text on the left side could say "S Tier?". If you really want the logo too it may fit in the top left corner as well
Ok
But I might have to rework it
I mean, I assume if you're sharing your thumbnail in this server, it's because you're open to reworking it. Kinda the principle of feedback.
maybe add a gaussian blur to the background
How I would do that
what after you using to make the thumbnail?
Convert an image to it?
Davinchi resolve?
ah, alright. so you can add a blur from your effects menu
Yeah, I can figure it out
I don't use effects that much
thats alright, one sec
I recorded a lot of clips in order to make my video with some decent editing skill
From btdb1 mod
yes we aren't talking about the actual video rn though. its good that you put a lot of time into it though!
I think if you blur the background, remove the A, B, and E sections and make a bigger focus on "is this S tier" you can get more intrigue
the logo adds a lot of clutter so its hard to arrange stuff like that, I'd recommend looking up how other tier lists have compiled their thumbnails to make something simple and eyecatching
This is obviously very rough and doesn't have a proper stroke or the game logo, but this is sort of what I was trying to explain to you to help simplify. Lopi might have their own ideas that you could follow as well if you don't like this format
Sir thats amazing tyty
i dont hvae my photo editing software and couldnt do an example lol
If software is the issue, I used a free online program called Befunky to make that mockup
Ok
Also the "Logo here" text should be replaced
By the one that I use
I think they are suggesting that you can use the software to create your thumbnail
so its your choice on what is replaced or what goes where, in the end this is your channel and you have the final say and creative control
Ok
I can't remove a photo from there
No "delete" button
Welp guess I have to use my crappy thumbnail then
SirDeath's is probably the best one of the options, but if you're going to keep your style I might actually ditch the logo entirely and use the title for the "Plants vs Bloons" part
I don't need to see "Tier List" in your thumbnail. I can see it's a tier list.
I have to remake the thumb which will take me like 2 hours to waste for one thing
And it's not worth for me wasting over 2hrs on one thing
so a) your thumbnail is more important than your video
b) I can make something like it in about 2 minutes
If you don't care to take people's advice, I get it, but there's not much reason asking for feedback you don't want to take ๐คฃ
That's my previous old thumb
So what should I do? Use my old thumbnail or just others
I think I made it slightly more better
we've given you the feedback we can, if you dont want to take it then there isn't much else to ask about
this is a really REALLY good example. It catches the eye very quickly
you need to make your thumbnails easy on the eye and simplistic - since our brains process information very quickly and viewers decide in about a couple milliseconds if they are interested or not - too much information visually will not engage with them well and can confuse them instead
theres an interesting article about netflix when they ran some tests on this process for their own service and they came to these findings as well
could I ask what fonts these are btw?
The font that I used is actually Impact, the same font that was used on classic memes
ah thank you, I'm not too familiar with fonts to be honest I find it pretty daunting JUST how many there are lol
Yep, just to keep hitting the nail I'd absolutely click on this one, even without the logo (I'm not really a gamer, but even I recognize plants vs zombies ^^)
I go with Impact and Montserrat for almost everything ๐
https://twitter.com/TrungTPhan/status/1445768087832182796?s=20&t=0m5Zol72wtYOo4PWU2IFyg and the thread about netflix thumbnails, to keep banging on the "thumbnail is more important than the video" wall
A Netflix user will browse the app for 90 seconds and leave if they find nothing.
Thumbnail artwork is actually NFLX's most effective lever to influence a viewer's choice. A user will look at one for only 1.8 seconds, so NFLX spends huge to optimize them.
Ah thank you! I couldn't remember what it was
Yeah the actual sources are at the end of the twitter thead actually ๐ but I've bookmarked this one for easy access
nothing a youtube tutorial cant fix
its going to take that long when you are starting out as you have to get used to the software you are using, as well as the actual process of making a thumbnail. Its important to take time in thumbnails as the thumbnail is surprisingly more important than the video itself (that may sound stupid - but it is true). You gotta just keep practicing and trying things out to see what sticks and what doesn't but you'll work it out I am sure
