Hello all, I hope you're doing well!

I created my YouTube channel a year ago hoping to grow by presenting a humorous perspective on the games I play (similarly to AmbiguousAmphibian / The Spiffing Brit).

When I started I decided to make videos about any game that allows me to create my own narrative on top of the gameplay. I was hoping my personality and visual identity would be enough to grow but it seems like it is not working.

I've put out 4 videos with an average of one month of production time each. I had some good feedback on the first one but with each upload the views have continued to dwindle even though I feel I progressed in terms of production quality.

No video crossed the 1000 views threshold. My audience retention is 20% on average and my CTR between 2% and 4%.

The first three videos were concept driven in survival/building games while the fourth is a narrated recollection of a story heavy game.

I have difficulty answering the following questions:

  • Can you understand me clearly even though English is not my first language? Would the way I speak make you click away?
  • Is my personality actually enough to carry a variety channel or am I fooling myself?
  • Does the goblin costume help or does it feel like a gimmick?
  • With my style of content, do you think I should niche down into a single game or genre of games?
  • Is one video a month just too slow to get anywhere with what I do?

Thank you so much for reading my post, any feedback and criticism is greatly appreciated.

Nice feedback post! Please keep in mind that all feedback is provided out of the good will of the community, so it may take some time for you to get a response.

Please avoid reposting or begging members in other channels to check out this thread.

If you receieve no feedback at all, consider that as feedback in a sense.

Hello!

About language: as a person with non-English first language (mine also is not great) I can say that I understand 85% of what you are saying, but I won't be surprised if it is fault on my side
About personality: I think personality is an important thing, but in modern times it is not enough to create a huge channel, other factors important as well.
About costume: I would say that this is a good branding idea. In the case when you become a popular Youtuber, your costume would be a really Unique Selling Point for your channel and people would recognize you with it. It can looks as a "gimmick" just because you have small amount of views (actually people tend to tolerize something if it is popular, this is called a Bandwagon effect in Psychology btw)
About diversity of games: for your style of videos, I assume that narrowing your channel to one game would be wrong. Your diversity of games can be a good thing because one day ideas about only one game can be vanished, especially if you like many other games. And "Review" style (idk what term you actually prefer) is a genre that easily can accept range of different games.
About duration of video: I would say that for your videos you should do one from two things:

  1. Change a structure. Your narrative and the way you give information is kind of slow, and pace is an important element nowadays because usually people tend to watch more active content if it is an entertainment. Even though your voice manner and how you talk is actually catchy in a good way, but there are huge pauses between transitions while you are talking in my opinion.
  2. Change a duration of video. If you want to keep the pace of how you talking, you can decrease the duration of videos. This will decrease effort you should put in one video and you can do more of them.

Altogether, I believe you have potential as you have a branding ideas and a solid view on your content, but the narratology should be changed imo. But I'm not proffesional on YT, gj!
