#Any ways to improve my list videos?

I'm trying my best to improve my list videos every upload. They focus mostly on strategy and management games, but I'm slowly trying to reach a broader audience (similar to gameranx).

However, the core part I'm trying to improve on in my list videos content:

  • Hook: Do they need a stronger hook or better intro? I'm trying to keep them short and to the point, but maybe they need rewording
  • List items visual - the editing is very simple: gameplay footage with the lower third in the beginning and a simple transition. Is this enough?
  • List items background audio - this I struggle with. What works best: audio that matches the game or, a standardised soundtrack (e.g. lo-fi beats)?
  • List items voice over - do I come across as genuine? Engaging? Any way I can keep viewers attention for longer?

Any issues you find or advice to keep people watching for longer would be greatly appreciated πŸ™‚

Very well done! I can tell a lot of passion and time went into this

  1. The hook directly gets the audience you're looking for, I can't think of any improvements on my end. Especially because it ties into thumbnail and title well. One question, are you looking for inspiration from thumbnails of other game lists videos (that you find have been successful in the metrics you're going for)?

  2. In most moments the editing and transitions fit well, one editing technique you may already know of is to focus on user perspective. What I mean is a viewer won't be looking at the entire screen at once, there is typically a focal point - you want the focal point to transition to the next focal point of the next scene. You'll see it in movies all the time where the scene transition has a character walking and the next cut has the new dialogue character exactly in-frame where that character walked toward.

  3. It's a small detail, but I strongly feel that audiences love Easter eggs and consistency. Thus, audio that's with the game (or font when typing things) or music as close to the track as possible would be my recommendation. However, only if possible due to copyright 😭

  4. I don't have much to recommend here, my best would be to look into Google trends, YouTube search bar, type stuff and find what the communities of these games would like to hear (not what they've already heard but similar intent). However, there's power in bringing up novelty outside the trends as well so it feels more of like an art than a science.

  5. Over 4k views is fantastic! Consistency will keep that momentum and the constant learning is great! Humility beats stubborn perfection attitude every day.

I agree with the comment that said it should be to 100k views πŸ˜„! I hope my comments help, I'm no professional in this realm, I'm learning myself, but that's some of the advice and research I've been looking into πŸ’š

Thanks TMOA for all the feedback! To answer your questions:

  1. Yup, I generally spending a few hours looking at other examples (outside of my niche too). Else, I'll reuse a popular title/thumb from my previous videos that came with a high CTR

  2. Very interesting, however, I'm a bit restricted because I can't always control what's on the footage. However, maybe I could try it out. Do you have any examples of this? I'd like to try it out!

  3. Yup I usually try include soundtracks from popular games in the same niche, but yeah I can't do it for all games.

  4. I used Google Trends before but not for my channel. I search mainly on Youtube for trends, but it's not easy. But you're right about picking stuff that isn't trending (e.g. old game reviews) as there's less competition but there still could be a strong audience.

  5. Thanks very much! I'm trying to be consistent but also testing new ideas each time to help my channel grow.

But yes, your comments do help! It's only me reviewing my channel, so I often miss common things I'm doing wrong πŸ˜…

# fathom geyser Thanks TMOA for all the feedback! To answer your questions: 1. Yup, I generally...
  1. Awesome! I was curious because the thumbnail is well done. I figure you are building your brand, so a potential way is to have a unique thumbnail aspect. But, I get the feeling you're already doing that, but I mention it just in-case because that unique element can really seperate you from competition

  2. It can be difficult since it would be unrealistic to gather all that footage through your own playing. Best example I've actually recently found was the Netflix show Wednesday πŸ˜‚, they constantly have their scenes adjust the point-of-view to match previous scenes. As to youtube examples, I can't say for certain but most easy on the eye transitions are typically because of aligning the focal point. You'll see it everywhere once you know what to look for

  3. Very understandable, the Copyright scene can be frustrating

  4. You've found a great niche, I wish I knew more about that balance of creating something I love but what the audience pulls, if that makes sense. That's the essence of what I meant

  5. Happy to! I wish you success in how you measure it! Which I believe you've found some already πŸ™Œ

I totally understand it's a struggle sometimes because it's a, "I don't know what I don't know" situation
