With text is better, but the thumbnail has to reflect the title of the video. It's impossible to rate it without knowing the title or what the video should be about. Which is also an insight. The viewer should know what he is getting or spark interest in the first second he sees this.
Why should I click on this? What do I want to see or find out from this video?
You could bring the character closer (bigger) or bring only the face in the screen with an exaggerated happy/sad expression. All the best!
