I tried streaming before and yeah you definitely need to promote yourself on other platforms because Twitch isn't that great for discoverability because the way Twitch is set up puts the streams with the highest viewers at the top of the category so if you're a small streamer a potential viewer would have to scroll down a lot to find you.
Try make streams that can be edited down to make YouTube video i.e. Tierlists, challenge stream etc. Regular let's plays won't cut it unfortunately.
