Well subs don’t mean much of anything if you don’t get the views. I’ve seen it both ways where some will take content and cut it down into shorts or they make original content in shorts format that is similar to their regular content. It could really go both ways. It’s prob not a good idea to just make throw away content or “filler” stuff into shorts. That’s just seems lazy to me. That also might seem like that to people too.

unfortunately yt doesn't really work that way. It sounds counter-intuitive but its true. There are plenty of shorts creators that have 1M+ subscribers but their long form videos get 2k views because they just arent that good
also in the words of Mr Beast, subscribers are "worthless" because you can get arguably just as many views regardless of how many subscribers you have

I think the argument could be made that it is mainly for exposure. Look at how Linus Tech Tips does their shorts. He has even said that even though it doesn’t make much money and sure they get subs, those shorts have the potential to be viewed by tens if not hundreds of thousands of people. So why not do it. If it’s easier to make them just by cutting up current content then do that. But also in the words of Mr Beast, you need to just@make the best videos possible.

Go for it. Prob shouldn’t look for it to get subs but instead views. If your making videos anyway might as well just cut out 20 seconds from it and make a short with it.
