While I have been doing a lot of research on Thumbnails for a while, I am struggling to find a 'calling card' if you will. Something that is typically consistent among most of my thumbnails.

I do gaming content on Youtube and have experimented with a couple different things, and often times struggle when coming up with the thumbnail. Other times I already have an idea from a screenshot of the game I am playing (like my poppy playtime videos). Here is the one I was making today for a VOD of my first livestream I did over on Twitch where I played Stardew Valley.

It doesn't look very good I am afraid (was also thinking of putting my face in the bottom left corner)

If you want to see my previous thumbnails for reference my YT is in my Profile

I would say yes face in my thumbnails has helped a lot. I would say don’t be afraid to make your face bigger in thumbnails in general it’s easier to relate to you if your face is more prominent and you have space. It took a lot for me to do something similar but feel free to look at mine for sizing and such. Otherwise though I think your thumbnails look good! Just make your face bigger

I definitely think the second one is better and adds personality and makes it more unique. I think the green text is small, it's gonna get shrunk down a lot when it's live. Maybe as well instead of "I finally did it" try and think of something that makes your video unique and try to create a hook maybe? (I'm no expert)

Personally I try to avoid putting a game logo in the thumbnail because if someone is going to spend the time watching me play the game, unless it's a very niche game the person is going to have heard of the game before and hence want to watch its content - so I try to create hooks of something that will get the viewer interested and leave the game name in the title to clear up any confusion. Might not work for this specific example, but works for me and my content.
