I think making levels in order just gives a more comfortable cohesion

and i love creative freedom

maybe you just like making crazy concepts whenever they come into mind

oh yea, the way my levels look and play is vastly different from levels i see from others
for the most part
sclews and me have a similar mapping style so I thought to compare them
although sometimes i made some levels "out of my comfort zone"
sclews and i collabed and i basically adapted to his style
people could think its just a sclews map but its actually a collab lol
we did a full episode collab once for nitro
ended up being one of the bulkiest
and really hard
that's why you don't do a full episode collab π

-01: i still dont like evil ninjas, but at least this was easy. the cups were really cute. i had fun
-02: i did not have fun. not hard, i didnt die or anything, just aint fun. i pity the highscoreres
-03: oh thats pretty. reminds me of a numa map with one of the coolest demos ive ever seen, i'll try to pull that up later. pretty and relaxing and fun to play around on
-04: i dont really like levels that are more about memorization/routing than reflex, and if i'd gotten stuck on this one i think i would have hated it; but it didnt take me long, and it was pretty satisfying to progress. i think its very well done for what it is, good map, just not my jam

-00: left side is nice. right side is meh, i hate having to use the wall to climb like that, feels wrong and boring. and getting back to the left from the right, wow, that is one crazy stupid difficulty spike. this did not work for me

-03: uhhhh okay
-04: eh. completion is dull, gold has one awkward jump that isnt really fun. not a fan

-00: looks super cool. had to watch a demo to figure this out, but the trick was trivial after that, thank god. it was cute, i enjoyed it.
-01: didnt enjoy this as much as expected for a big room of bounceblocks, but it was still solid
-02: quite nice for a slow thwump map, gold was strangely satisfying to collect
-03: i dont really get this one. i guess the enemies are only unlocked for challenges? it was still fine to run through, just not much to it, i dunno
-04: lmao this is pretty funny. good rockets, i like

-01: wow this was harder than expected lmao, my fingers hurt. cool map, literally cannot imagine doing the challenge
-02: very good. i wish it had been obvious that the exit blocked off the back gold, but it's easy enough that i wasnt upset. i really like the drones.
-03: oh this looked super scary. turned out to be not too bad, but definitely tense, i really enjoyed it. looks neat
-04: tough but quick, very enjoyable. clean and lovely
the challenge on 01 looks spooky but once you get used to it its suuuuper satisfying to pull off

-00: pretty cool. i dont like the first/leftmost gold, pretty awkward and i have to wait for it, but the rest was fun.
-01: i like the big jump, dont care about the rest. took me a while to get this one. not the most interesting use of doors, but still a nice break
-02: uhhh actually pretty cool! certainly different, a change of pace, and there wasnt enough pressure to make the funky bbs frustrating, just kinda silly. it was nice
-03: i dunno about this one. i feel like i would have liked the bottom in isolation, honestly, and the top just makes it a little bit too long, too much hassle. the bottom is already really long and finicky, but it's pretty satisfying, except for that one section. i cant figure out how to cross over that in either direction, so i have to go there-and-back from both entrances, which makes me feel eh. the sand pit mechanic was really neat, but every time i tried to use it on purpose it killed me x.x Overall definitely a neat map, but i think it coulda been improved. memorable.
-04: honestly just fantastic. struggled a lot with this one, but its just fun throughout, so i didnt care too much. i never had a bloody idea where any of those drones were goin so i just ran fast and prayed π
shimmer is actually not a sand pit, but its a recreation of a liquid from a game terraria where once you enter it you pass through blocks below it. yea the level isnt the best in retrospect, already had that conclusion before, i definitely should have tested the bottom section. the reason why it kills you randomly is... actually unknown. i tried really hard to make it work all the time but somehow it just kept breaking more and more so i had to leave it as is
overall this episode definitely has good highlights from me imo
one of the better ones even if the shimmer level gameplay sucks, atleast the level is interesting in its own way lol

To no gold this level, I went down, got the switch, and backtracked to ride a thwump to the door. Thats how bad that jump is
the jump is not bad... its just better than you 
yeah it felt pretty impossible to me. for some reason i wasnt able to bait the right laser, which woulda made it doable, but it just couldnt see me till i actually went for it
yea the laser is in a very inconvenient place

-00: harder and more awkward than expected, but it was nice and short. ambivalent.
-01: that first gold is fuckin nasty. 21 attempts, all but one death were that jump. just kinda weird an unbalanced, i dunno. thank you for putting it at the beginining, at least. i would have prefered to cut the tough jump and add an active enemy, i think.
-02: the jumps here were surprisingly fun, nice gold/mine positioning. the launchpads sucked balls, that was highly unpleasant.
-03: reaper madness but easier and honestly not as fun. still satisfying, i like deathballs
-04: that's a lot to look at. i didnt enjoy working on this one, but my successful run was fun. i dunno. its okay. kinda cool idea, but i think you could have done more with it
i agree with all but the unbalanced gold in 01
i mean i know its unbalanced but its done on purpose
i wouldnt add an enemy and make it easier, personally

-01: ive played this before. its's fine. there's no gauss!
-02: very very good drone chaos, its maybe my favorite genre. great map
-03: hot garbage, just cuz of the trapdoor. that's called cruelty, not humor ~150 tries, but they are very short, at least
-04: pretty neat. a bit crazy, but i enjoyed it a lot
00 was built because it was nearing the first completion of the tab (125 levels) so i wanted to make a fun pun... which doesnt even work now because theres a lot more levels after this lmfao
and yea 01 is a remix of metanets level
but nah if you told me to do this in one attempt to save my life, rest in peace

-00: its fine. sometimes its nice to run around in an abandoned building
-01: yep, same. if there was any way to die in this one i would hate it, but i only have to play it once, so its fine. pretty.
-02: why is this so much easier than the straight one? prettier, too, and the gold is more interactive. better all around tbh
-03: a lot harder than expected, but very fun. surprising how well the mix of enemies worked together. good map
-04: okay maybe a few too many long empty maps in this episode? again, if i had died i woulda really resented it; got turned around a fair number of times in here, but was never in any danger. its fine to play once
for completion/g++, there is zero threat

-00: very nice looking. the first circle is boring; wouldnt have minded an enemy on the left. the rest was pretty cool
-01: i thought this was a lil penis in a cape from the thumbnail. i tend not to like rocket+shwumps, but it worked nicely here. gold was smooth and fun to pick up
-02: oh jeez. good map, but my eyes and brain really really dont like it. it kinda hurts. ruined it for me, sadly, but i can tell that it was well made
-03: really nice use of drones here, i loved the mindrone positioning especially. lovely.
-04: the grazed gold was actually real cool to figure out and collect, and the spinny bits right before the exit were the perfect pressure. not sold on that one piece, but eh, it's definitely something different, and it's at the beginning. overall, i enjoyed it

-01: honestly really good spinny lasers. theyre usually way too stressful for me, but this was nice and chill, just some fun gold to collect, i approve
-02: zoom zoom! i like!
-03: what are the cycles here? i think i am missing something. pretty gold patterns made them fun to collect, but there wasnt much to it. quite adequate
-04: feels like someone was pretending to be sclews but didnt quite know how. still a fine map. lasers felt pretty useless. i liked the fall in the exit switch area

-00: some really cool jumps, especially in the bottom half. good stuff, very creative and fun
-01: a frightening gauss, but the level structure was great. i enjoyed it
-02: its fine, it works nicely, a little bit of tension, but if i had died i dont think i'd be so supportive :p That is a lot of gold, and while there was a lot less waiting than expected, it's certainly not fast-paced
-03: mostly really good, but the ascent from the switch is brutal. kinda wish there were another option there, but it was fine. ....i also didnt realize the launchpads were facing down, so my first run had an unpleasant end, but that's the palette's fault, not yours :p
-04: well it sure looks cool. it felt strangely off to me, like i was always doing something wrong but didnt know what to correct; but it was short enough that i was able to just power thru it with no problem. i think the enemy spam really works here, fun map

-00: the chill thwumps are chill, but i really didnt like going back and forth and back and forth. the gameplay itself was... passable, not my favorite.
-01: i dont get this one. i was mostly on board until the trapdoor. i dont get what it accomplishes except killing my first run. like, it doesnt make me get the ninja first or anything... idk. i like the little minidrone pop-ins, and the thwumps and floorguard were decent... it just didnt quite come together for me.
-02: its fine. its large. i liked the toggled-off gold areas, for whatever reason. not an outstanding map, but pleasant enough to play through once
-03: ew, i hate this gold a lot. excessive and unfun. it was otherwise decent. im not sure the shwumps were the most fun option
-04: yep, thats a lot of funky entities. played well enough. short and sweet

try reducing the amount of deathballs that can enter that region of your ninja
and then theres just these random shwump boosts and stutters when im running around

-00: oooh, big improvement on the original. oneways are really neat, feels like ur breaking out of the map borders. lovely
-01: oh hi abho. fucking gorgeous tiles. wasn't sold at first, but the journey back to the exit is a blast. just generally fun to move around in. good stuff
-02: hmmm this was a lot of fun when i was trying for g++t--. decided to just grab g++ and that wasnt nearly as cool; the bottom of the map is neat, and its less interesting when you dont interact with that. still okay, but i get the feeling that the challenges will be a lot more fun here
-03: ooh, yes, lovely. already liked the original quite well, but this might be even better. just really cool pathing and stuff.
-04: i found this very unpleasant. for one, its visually overwhelming, and i never knew what was going on or where the deathballs were. for two, i was glitching on thwumps every couple runs, which usually led to a frustrating death. for three, it looks like this big open map, but its actually super limited in where you can move. sussing out the route may have been cool if i was actually enjoying my time in the map, but i wasn't, so it just prolonged the pain. really not a fan of this, my eyes just can't keep up

my interpretation was to make all exits inaccessible except one so if you were to try get the inaccessible ones youd be dead on arrival

-01: oh lordy. 169 very long attempts. overall, i really like it, just not sure about the hard jumps. still, thats a pretty reasonable attempt count, all things considered. i dont think its unfair in any way. solid map.
-02: nice and lenient. not fantastic, but ive always been a fan of this concept
-03: oh wow this is amazingly good for a mindfuck level. messes with your head, but take it slow and its all okay. gold was fun; completion is kinda silly, and the challenge looks like complete ass. that's a lot of trips, it stops being fun eventually you know!
-04: im kinda torn on this one. i dig the structure and the lasers/chainguns, but the areas where a bunch of enemies had you in their crosshairs at once were just gross. its also a pretty big map. i would probably cut the gauss and the outer gold blocks and call it a day. still pretty fun, just some unpleasant pain points

-00: too big, too long, too much goddamn gold to collect. the top row on the right is nasty. rest is pretty easy, but tedious and boring and unpleasant, and dying just sucks. i do not like it. (the map, not dying) (okay i dont like dying either)
-01: looked super cool, ended up being pretty bland. werent really any cool bb jumps like i was expecting, and the tiles arent great to move on. looks cool, did not enjoy
-02: okay this was really neat. looks unique, easy jumps are fun, gold is nice, i approve
-03: uhhhh hm i think i ended up really liking this one, but i hated when you got stuck in a lil room with two minidrones comin at you and couldnt do a thing about it. i think that was just one intersection in particular; the others you could get around even if ambushed. still, a minor flaw in an otherwise really cool map. i had a hard time figuring out where to go, but it was easy enough to just pause and take a look lol. fun.
-04: thanks, i hate it. the gold on the downward diagonal slopes is fucked up, man. i dont like evil ninjas. probably a run map to route for most people, its just the kind of thing i personally kinda hate. still snagged a 0th. will not play again.

-00: chainguns are pretty cool. clunky little minidrone blocks are terrible and unfun. overall, not a good map.
-01: lol that looks cool. what is the lamp illuminating? im glad g++ was easy here, i struggle with shwump excavations. as it was, quick and fun
-02: i.... have not tried g++ here. i dont wanna. maybe later. looks FUCKING MISERABLE. and completion is completely trivial, of course. like really, just looks like lots of nasty busy work, embedded gold just to make it as hard to collect as possible.... i should not be saying this before i even play it lol, ill get back to you
-03: uhhh this is actually pretty neat? yeah this is dope. took a minute to be able to move smoothly, but its really satisfying somehow. challenge looks like hell

trying to get gold like this, i could basically never get all three of them. even when i was just going back for a single piece, it was really easy for me to miss. so i ended up going thru every part of it like two times
DB improv and evil ninjas was a great combo
yeah it was just the gold placement i disagree with
the evil ninja amount was solid. not enough to be hard, but enough to force you to cross paths every now and then
personally i liked it and then i even realized i could make a challenge around it

-01: really didnt like this. boring, and im bad at getting into one-tile openings.
-02: cool, very metanet. reminds me of one level in particular, maybe deception or something? super easy, but pleasant
-03: fantastic. i love the evolution from gauss to floorguards, keeps each hallway unique. tiles are great, oneways look great, very sexy and plays super well to boot. wonderful
-04: oh no. i'll try this some more later tonight. i'm sure i will get it eventually, but it does feel like pure luck. i can't say i dislike it; it's like a little minigame, completely removed from the normal n++ experience, which i always think is super cool. its kinda like one of my faves, robot heaven, in that sense. but it's gonna take aaaaaaages for me to luck out on this one, no way in hell i can route it. we'll see how i feel about it then. for now, i think its cool, brutal, and unique

-00: decent jumper. only three jumps, but the first one is great, and big corners are always satisfying. not a fan of the final jump, but it does the job. i kinda wish it were more elegant, but i also like that it allows retries, so ill take it
-01: hmmmmm i struggles with this one, it made me very angry. the drip tiles were hard for me to handle. my only real complaint is "its too hard!" which is invalid lol, its probably pretty good for a gold cloud. cute name.
-02: what is this supposed to be? i like the map, its fun, even if it can be pretty uncomfortable to turn around on those slopes. those two gold by the laser were especially nasty. enjoyed it thoroughly tho
-03: uhhhhhh AAAAAAA it was cool, but i did not have fun

-02: soooooo this is terrifying. i feel like there has to be a faster way to do this, but im just looping thru the top after every thwump run, which makes this a MASSIVELY LONG MAP with tons of climbing into the gauss and im just not about it. i'll keep at the g++ and get back to you
-03: nice shwump jumper, nothing too hard, looks cool, very satisfying
-04: i dont like evil ninjas, but you didnt really have to interact with your shadows here, so it was fine by me! not a favorite, by any means, but it made me feel better at the game than i actually am, so thats a win in my book

-01: god i hate hidden enemies, such a shite mechanic. this one wasn't too bad if you just went really slow, at least, but i sure didnt like it, even if the shwumps looks super cool
-02: i like this more than other maps with the same concept, mostly because it was easy lmao. always a fun paradigm shift, i enjoyed it
-03: looks kinda cool, not much in the way of gameplay but that's fine, short and easy
-04: oh that's a long map. got a lot easier once i realized you could do the whole top half sans deathball, lol. pretty fun, honestly; i do enjoy unlocking doors.time pressure ended up being pretty irrelevant, which... well, im quite glad for that, woulda sucked big time if i had to really go fast. neat map

-01: huh, did you make this? looks really cool, but didnt play as well as i expected. the horizontally protruding gold wasnt that fun, and there actually wasnt a whole lot to do inside the structure. i still like it, just cuz of how cool it looks, but i think it coulda been better somehow
-02: very fun, just like the last one. looks scary, but quite easy, dipping in and out of the drones feels great
-03: yeah i havnt even tried gold on this, looks disgusting. just dont see the appeal of maps like this, but i know some people do, so whatevs
-04: well, its a fitting column ender. so fuckin claustrophobic though, not sure how to feel about that. maybe i'll get a handle on how to move around in it after g++, but for now its just uncomfortable. looks really cool, i love the concept, just not having fun with it yet. solid tension, tho

okay got that one done, snagged 0th with a not great run. there are a couple points where the oneways and launchpads are rude and janky, but for the most part this is awesome and flowy, and i absolutely love it. fantastic map @idle zenith , had a blast with this.
the foofy one, not so much. it was much improved when my route got better, but it just wasnt that fun for me. not the sort of jumps i enjoy

-01: wow that was pretty tight. no idea how kk went so fast. solid little race, and looks wonderful
-02: uhhhh i didnt like this. couldnt figure out how to get the first gold without a lengthy wait, and i kept getting ganked by thwumps, lol, which was completely my fault but still terribly frustrating.
-03: oh that's long. i wish it were just a liiiiittle bit easier to get into the final ascent, but besides that, i liked it. i really dont like boosters, so i probably ended up doing this super slow lol, but it worked. kinda meditative, not too hard, just some minor booster frustrations
-04: not a fan, honestly. its long and repetitive. its like its trying to be blood monkey, but it just doesnt have the same tension. i dunno, pretty generic, not for me

-02: really liked this at first, but the longer i spent with it the more frustrating it became. i really hate the gold on the far right; especially with the seekers, its suuuuuch a pain to get, so much harder than anything else. and moving left to right is just an excercise in misery. the bulk of the map, tho, swinning around in the pond, was fantastic, just wish youd made it a little more accessible

@topaz gulch I know I cant really judge all that much on the challenges since ive not really played much of this tab at all due to my skill level but one thing I noticed is that you didnt include many 4 or 5 part challenges, if any at all. In the tab im currently making im trying to do this so there can be more variety in the challenges except everything either being G--, T++ or both together and vice versa. I take to some metanet challenges to help me so this is due my perspective on the situation. I suppose for a first tab and your first time doing this you had to start somewhere and so I respect you for trying.

My favourite challenges tend to be the 5 part collect everything challenges, but I see why you became overwhelmed, it can be a lot of work

its also the way how most levels are structured, most wouldnt be able to have complicated challenges because they focus more on decoration than gameplay
some levels didnt even have challenges at first, i had to add them later to fill up everything
Im pretty sure Schmole told me this once but speeding up when it comes to creating a large project tends to be the worst thing to do, with my current project im slowly making levels for it if im not tired from college/school or whatever, I completely agree with him on this and its why I have no set deadline for TRIPLEX anymore, it will come out when it does

Yeah I have had this thought in the back of my mind, what I will most likely do is go in and tweak anything that may be deemed unfair or inconsistent, because no one wants to get to a point lets say in the 03 or 04 and die to something potentially RNG dependant or some sort of parity issue

Challenge is rly fun

had a great time, the design really started to grow on me in the back half
might do challenges once I settle my unfinished business with hardcore, won't be anytime soon though

yea i developed frontal lobe in the middle of making the tab and the first half is underwhelming comparing to the other, for whatever reason
the challenges are pretty tough or annoying so good luck if you ever want to do these
glad to see another completion though :)
here are the levels that took me the most attempts if anyone's curious:

- [B-02-03] wall of perish: 1/98
- [E-08-04] Belly of the Beast: 1/87
- [E-09-03] cornerius but done right this time: 2/79
- [B-05-03] shimmer: 1/70
- [C-04-01] beer pong: 1/68
- [E-07-03] HUGE WASP NEST!!! AAAA: 1/61
- [A-00-03] i spy with my gigantic eye: 3/60 (did this one without being able to see the gold)
- [A-08-02] euthanizing that dog in me: 2/51
a good number of them took 30-50 attempts but had every run get disgustingly deep, air fryer and DOA are two that come to mind
no biggie as well, absolutely loved that one
this is where i left off in the tab (a few episodes impossible for me to base complete)

on par with apex sounds pretty scary to me
i'll try and get as far as I can, won't do challenges
yeah i thought this tab was pretty tough
but that being said, i think most custom tabs are tougher than metanet main tabs, and mostly because of skill creep of the people making them and that the target player audience is usually π― 'ers, top highscorers, and people like sv
nothing to shrug off
it is tough at times but with enough time most of us could do it
challenges are whole another universe though

That was one of my favorite maps to low gold
i had to nerf it a lot
to the state where it is now
was super annoying to get and quite frankly i still do think that a little bit but oh well lol
was quite proud of this level tbh
fun fact, this laser was placed completely randomly
it was fully on accident
i've placed a laser randomly that everyone loved once
but i playtested the level with it and it was fun so i kept it
most of my level design is random + adjust later

ninja game is still an "every once and a while" jam for me, so it seemed like the right time to whittle away at challenges here
I might do a file edit (a la redux) to fill the empty columns with dummy levels so I can see the challenges
though that would make my total score higher than what's possible in the tab, so maybe not
@cold quartz how'd you make challenges visible in your videos, out of curiosity?
Filled the tab with dummy levels that complete instantly (or close enough to), collecting 1 of 2 gold placed in the level

Minimise point gain from all golds, and so they wouldn't get brackets/gold badges

did most of it in offline mode to be safe (forgot for A-10 and B-10, double-checked and I set no impossible scores thankfully)
shouldn't be any danger of messing up leaderboards thankfully, but always good to be safe

this continues to be one of roughly five chaser levels I actually like
this whole episode was great, lots of fun and tense endurance challenges
surprisingly difficult level all around (also made the deathless episode tough)
or should I say, "shockingly" difficult
tried my hardest to give the lesser used enemies some spotlight

switches on top of O-doors should be an outlawed mechanic
