@grim lion instead of looking at the matches you sent i think i will look at your 3-4 most recent ones
to get a better idea of what s going wrong in them
okay so the recent matches versus ken:
-very panicky right off the get go, match just started and you re already giving up a lot of screen space
-he mashes and whiffs in front of you and you re afraid to challenge
-you drop the light link a bit too often. so instead of doing crlp crlp stlp xx L spin you do just crlp crlp pause L spin on block
-you use amnesia a bit too much given that at this point you don't know a combo that will make the risk reward worth it (also amnesia mid screen usually doesn't give any damage so it s inherently way worse than in the corner)
-we gotta go over the corner combos cause you lost out on an easy win in one of those rounds
-overall it seems like you re a bit afraid to play close up and always look to back off, which is what lost you a bunch of these interactions

How difficult is hit confirming counter hit vs punish counter for 2mk? Because counter hit gets the 5lk, but punish counter gets 2mp
ye, well it's more reacting to whether you stuffed an attack (counterhit) or you whiff punished / punished an attack
you rarely ever get punish counter by accident and also in range of crmp
with crmk
I'd just default to the stlk followup on counterhit, or ditch the followup entirely cause it may be bad on normal hit, and go for sthp blockstring
unless you use crmk from DR, in which case on block go into crlp and on hit go into crmp
@past panther what's the ideal PP combo? Obviously low on resources because we start at such a high scaling
depends on what you prefect parry
on a high recovery move, you can drain 4 bars with a heavy into sa2 combo
sthk sthp xx sa2 sthp fdash sthp xx H portal (walk back a bit) sthp xx DI, DR sthp xx DI
so they get drained 1 bar for PC heavy, 1 bar for sa2, and 2 bars for 2 di
What if you don't have SA2 because you're perfect parrying Honda 12 times a round?

except if the bomb detonates before you throw
in street fighter, unless you're punishing something, you cannot throw someone when you're more than +5
the throw has to land when they're out of blockstun or hitstun
very rough recording haha, but these are the 3 main ones
the last one ends with another L ghost H spike but i whiffed and didnt wanna re-record
so you'd use the crmp one for throws, the f.hk for DI, and the crlp into stmk for hits that you're not sure of (u gotta be at least +4 there)
ofc you can go into backthrow there but if you want pure damage it s less good
off of backthrow i usually do either sthp xx L spin for a safejump, or sthp xx portal and try hit a high/low before it pops

And, on round 2 is one example where i OD they blocked the bombs and I whiffed throws (granted i also mis imputed and got some low kicks as well, this happened again later and cost me the match)

also sthk in neutral is a fixation, it s good when it works but if it whiffs you get punished , and it whiffs a lot especially if the other guy is crouching
that s why we use sthp
better reward on whiff punish and hard to whiff punish itself
i get that you like the comfort of hit confirming the target combo
but don t use it as a crutch
it s almost certainly gonna get nerfed since it s kinda whack at -3 rn
and then it will become a way riskier tool
also i saw you were buffering spin from sthp instead of ghost
one of the upsides of using ghost is DI safety
if all your blockstring enders are spin, i ll start DI ing galore
the other upside is i actually gotta commit to parry or take the drive damage / react to the high/low
and you know that if i commit to parry you can fake and dr throw me

hmm. You're mostly negative against either chars that need labbing to beat (usually control the match with specials and you gotta play around their kit e.g honda, marisa, blanka) or versus chars that have an easier time getting in or a good DR to go past your ghosts. my guess is you're also probably flowcharting a bit at full screen so you won't allow yourself to expect a mid-full screen DR that will make you whiff your autopilot
the exception to what i said to you is cammy, probably cause you played her and u are more familiar with her kit so you know what to look for

Dee Jay feels like the biggest exception
Probably, I definitely ran into a lot that used the double projectile spam so I just OD ghost spike them
ye, they don't adapt to the JP matchup and they die for it
I did run into one that just sat in front of me and I couldn't touch him

Why do I get the PC on throw but not on stHP?
Amnesia is 18f recovery, which puts you +6 vs a perfectly meaty throw or +8 vs a normal throw
5hp is 12f startup, throw is 5f startup
I mean, Ryus 5hp meaty
Meanwhile Ryu 5hp is 18f recovery, so you're even if it's meaty
It's based on the recovery of the move hitting

if it s gonna kill you do sthp xx OD ghost, spike, qcf+lp xx SA3
or SA1 instead of qcf+lp xx sa3
if you want the setup, you do st.hp xx spike
and then OD portal right away, which will leave you +2 iirc
so you can throw them and juggle again with the portal into sthp xx spike and loop it again, you can do st.lk xx L spin which will beat mashing and juggle again into sthp xx spike, or you can do meaty cr.mp xx L portal j.hk, fjump j.lk, and it will be an instant overhead setup, and rejuggle them into sthp xx spike
I'll practice this tomorrow!

There's burnout combos, there's combos to cause burnout, there's juggle combos, there's corner combos, there's unblockable combos, it's great
What's the most generic one I can start learning? Like usable in most situations even if it's not most optimal

yeah gimme a sec I'll list them out for you
the basic SA2 combo is HK HP xx sa2, sthk, sthk hp xx H portal, sthk hp xx L spike, H spin, M ghost, H spike
that's also the same combo for the reset but instead of L spike you either finish the target combo or do M/H ghost and the portal will pick up the juggle
other than that midscreen you only got the cmd grab reset, the corner adaptation of the regular combo, the sideswitch combo, and the meter drain combo
also the 2 juggle setups for the corner
How do you get HK HP xx sa2? Just fish for it off oki?
Also storing the whole sequence in my head is so tough
Huh, we can dump SA3 fairly easily if we want to. I've never practiced random special into SA3 inputs but 2LP xx L spin xx SA3 does only 822 less damage than the full 3 bar BNB into SA3
lp lp lp xx L spin xx SA3 however does only 3510 damage instead of 4k that lp
+4 if linked properly

And her overhead i think it's one of the hardest to read/react
Also i dropped the corner combo twice, the 5hp OD ghost

versus JP, i can force him to play close
but i need to win 4-5 interactions to get the round
and he needs to win 2
because JP can do 3-4k per interaction, 6k with sa3
and kim needs 3 bars to do 2500 dmg
her max damage combo 6 bar sa3 is like 5.3k midscreen too
and she has no reversal so if i go for that and i mess up meaty and get backthrown i lose the round straight up
Can't get any more clutch than MQLY3KVDP

9 more players still to qualify, so technically JP could spike to #1 but realistically it'll probably keep similar distributions. I'm hoping we'll get a few of the non-qualified characters (Ryu, Jamie, Kim, Manon, Lily, Aki, and Honda)
My gut says JP is top 2 but the mental stack of our own offensive is hard enough it can be detrimental

i think JP has tough matchups into luke dj and ken, so there s less incentive to pick him. also a lot of people learned and got used to him now

Especially against the campus / lukes / ken /Kim because in one hit they take me to the other corner
