The intriguing part about this is- unlike other external things like a virus or a reprogramming, a damaged/compromised I.C. chip cannot be fixed

Not even by someone like Dr. Light

So if Rock's chip gets compromised somehow, there's no going back.

Guts Man's chip got shattered, that's a certified death sentence

He's gone for good, unfortunately

Only one of the fragments was left, the one they keep at home inside that container under his portrait

Almost as a "urn" to pay respects to

This is actually something that could very much happen in canon, at least comic/manga canon where I.C. chips are a thing

In Archie comics, Mega Man is careful to store his defeated RM's chips so Light can rebuild and bring them back.

It's all the process. Having it be bright, while not being clean or cheerful is something that occures at the start. Then as it goes on, the colours would slowly become more muted and dullish.

LIke a big machine sucking all the colour out of it.

I've been following the whole story since I first saw it on twitter and it got me pumped ever since on where it will go next.

Also… I just had a crazy thought: what’s if once mega man is put down, he steals the chip to use in Zero. It might not make too much sense, but that would be bonkers if that was used in order to make Zero a monster by Wily.

It's not weird to think they might do backups every now and then, but at the same time I can imagine I.C. chips being so complicated and expensive technically speaking that it might not be as feasible to have copies of those... might be too unique and specific perhaps?

(I'm not a computer engineer or robotics expert to know that much >->;)

Maybe a Robot Master's personality IC chip is built to be extremely resistant, maybe with the same titanium allow as their bodies

Therefore, to see this chip shatter, break, corrupt etc it's an exceptionally rare situation?

No wonder they make a huge deal about Guts Man's chip breaking

I always had the feeling that Rock would be the most prompt to collapse/have morality conflicts regarding Wily BECAUSE of how advanced his personality is

He's almost as human as you can get next to every other robot master

WHICH is exactly why I don't think the ending of MM7 was that out of character... when you truly think about it

Especially when Wily makes things way too personal (I.e. sending Bass to destroy Light's lab)

It completely makes sense imo

And i hate they removed that part of his character development in the rest of future games...

My head canon is that the “suppressor” chip from that weird MM8 booklet, was just a way to make sure rock never thought about “doing what he should have done years ago” to wily, would probably explain why he’s so cocky and superheroish now, not to dunk on modern capcom

Faded Rock isn't outright evil or like too insane, he's struggling and deeply troubled. So he still feels sorrow and sadness for everything that's happened.

He wishes he could turn back but can't, and he has his -out of character- moments. So yea, he doesn't love it...

The most prominent one though, is Dr. Wily successfully "killing" Mega Man. Despite him being a robot, it does happen.

Only for him to miraculously come back to life weeks later, full of rage and twisted, seeing visions and glitches, and with intrusive murderous thoughts.

See here's the thing

Little fun fact about this AU

Mega Man used special weapons, each Robot Master's weakness in order to defeat them faster so they don't suffer as much.

But after Rock slowly loses patience, slowly snapping as time goes on (after MM7) he chooses not to use those weapons to finish them off, but instead hurting them untill theyre weak, and then, using his own bare hands, brute force, tear some of them apart. As he has those snapping episodes.

Clown Man was the first one to get brutally finished off that way
