I think there's a lot they could do with the Rec Center, and I think this is a good spot to do it.
If people don't want it changed too much, maybe lean into the college aesthetic a little and add a popup booth there for a limited time. E.g. Rate Your Avatar looks like a college club booth with a changing room next to it.
Then that means it fits the aesthetic and the minigame.
But beyond looks, it also keeps the Rec Center a bit more lively and let people explore the minigame if they want rather than making people flock to one area without a minigame.
Hell, to add to the look, maybe have the chairs stacked and packed away if they end up using the space? What's jarring to me with the new minigames is they just... Show up. No thought about where the furniture actually went.
I like all of those ideas.
It's so weird how they're just moving things around without any context or visible looks on how it was moved. Especially with that new build minigame they added. How do you tear up a cafeteria and replace it overnight? Yeah sure the maker pen but they could've put the furniture somewhere...
And I'm shocked they haven't opened the outside part to the Rec Center yet. Although I guess they'd have to rig all of the hills around to make sure it's still where it is on the campus (if they decided to keep the map accurate).
Not to mention you have to find it on the watch menu. Sure it's in the home menu but it's not even the main door anymore.
Feels like they're trying to discontinue the Rec Center? Or focus more into the UGC rooms than a "centre point".

Yeah... Like I play Rec Room for Rec Room. Not that anyone's creations are bad, it's just not the experience I want.
I mean... They push the other creator made rooms like they're better than the original game, but I don't think that's the case. Especially if it's survived this long.
I always kinda think that the college is the main thing. Sure the Maker Pen and allowing users to make whatever they wish was a part of that, but even so it is stylised in such a way. Maker Pen? Glue gun. Circuits? Physical chips.
The college aesthetic being downed a little sucks.
Orientation being a prime example.
I actually think I know why the window is empty. They probably were going to add full body players in there and just forgot. Or... optimisation and they removed them for "performance reasons" yet haven't removed the sound effects.
That's always been my theory.
Yeah I don't disagree.
I saw the orientation before playing, I was like "oh wow this is amazing".
Then I downloaded the game...

There's an entire tutorial and everything and it's just gone?
Trophy cases of the years of the game being alive, just gone?
Hell even Coach speaks to you all about Rec Room and what it is. You now join and you leave confused on what to do.
Literally I had no idea what to do after orientation as nothing was explained beyond basic controls.
It feels like they've pushed UGC too far. Like "oh here's the controls, go have fun!" Have fun in what?
You haven't explained the game :/
Yeah. Super odd.
Also what annoys me about the Rec Center, on the topic.
The buttons don't push down anymore.
It's a nitpick but the water fountain and water vending machines no longer push down when you press a button.
Definitely a byproduct of moving it over to Rooms 2.0 but still.
Feels like a prop more than the actual thing now.
Not just longtime.
I want the old stuff back.
I played on an account years ago in 2021. Now I'm back due to losing that account in 2025.
I don't really consider myself an old player as 2021 was when a lot of people I knew played it.
But still
The pool table being gone is odd.
A lot of just empty space in the Rec Center.
I did some research into old Rec Room.
It's so cool.
The aesthetic was great.
Now it's watered down, if that makes sense.
Like putting a cloth over furniture so people don't sit on it.
Yeah...
Back to your suggestion.
I think they should use the screen for minigames if they do use that room.
It is a projection screen.
It would be cool to see them use location relevant props to add to the look. Like back to Rate My Avatar, have it project the Rate My Avatar logo.
Or, have it project something to build out of blocks.
Yep.
They remove iconic spots for a build a chair minigame.
Just...make it in the Maker Pen area? Or make a new area that's not intrusive? Or use the projection screen area?

If you want people to see it, do it college style and put up posters around the Rec Center.
Update to this post: they actually listened it seems!
