There is a GitHub repository for "common" issues that are not strictly bugs:

Output log file for the game on Windows is here:
%userprofile%\appdata\locallow\Knuckle Cracker\Creeper World 4\player.log

copy and paste this string into Windows file explorer.

Look for the file named
player.log that is usually the file of interest.

Apparently the equivalent under Proton is:
~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/848480/pfx/

Maps downlaoded from Colonies are in this location:
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\creeperworld4\colonies\maps
