They can't be collapsed, so if there are going to be multiple "boards" (Eg. one for CW4, one for CW3, one for support, etc.) The left pane is going to be significanly longer and more cluttered.

But I'm not seeing a way to refollow them, so is that a permanent "removal" if so that's not quite the same as hiding inactive things.
If I mute a Discord channel, I can still look into it and see new activity, for instance.

I tested by unfollowing "A man walks into a bar ..." after once following it.
Now when you click on #996361458252267591 , it's still listed there :)
And it's possible to re-follow from a button inside the forum thread
