When I select a ship I can hold ALT to mark an area that will fit the ship. It would be convenient if I also could erase in a similar manner, using the ship silhouette.

can you elaborate? holding alt with a ship marks the terrain for erasure, sounds like it already does what you want?

In addition to the Erase Dig control (Ctrl by default) you can also hold middle mouse button to erase digging markers. - So when I have a ship selected, I would be able to erase the digging markers with the ship while holding Ctrl or holding middle mouse button. Just like a giant Apex eraser.

The premise for this suggestion is that the relevant code needed more or less already exits, its mostly about attaching it to that key binding. I could be wrong though.
