#How to upload Avatar to an account logged in with discord?

Hi @shadow mauve. I'm kapa.ai, your friendly support bot. I will try to answer your question by searching through the knowledge base.
Uploading Avatars with a Discord-Linked Account
The issue your friend is facing is that platform accounts (including Discord-linked accounts) cannot log into the VRChat SDK directly. To use the SDK and upload avatars, a full VRChat account is required. [Account Linking]
What your friend needs to do
Your friend needs to link their Discord account to a full VRChat account. Here's how:
- While logged into VRChat with their Discord account, open the Main Menu.
- Navigate to Settings.
- Click the Link Account button (located below the Exit option).
- Follow the on-screen instructions to link to a VRChat account.
Important: It is recommended to link into a brand new, blank VRChat account to avoid any issues with favorites limits. [Account Linking]
After linking
Once linked to a full VRChat account, your friend will gain:
- Access to the VRChat SDK (and can log in to upload avatars)
- Access to the VRChat website
- The ability to earn Trust Ranks [Account Linking]
Additional requirement
Even after linking, your friend must have a Trust Rank of "New User" or higher to upload avatars. If they're new to VRChat, they'll need to spend some time in-game first. [Why can't I upload]
If there are difficulties linking the account, they can contact VRChat support at vrch.at/support.

Logging Into the SDK with a Linked Account
If your friend has already linked their Discord account to a full VRChat account and has reached the required trust rank, but still can't log in via the SDK, here are some things to check:
Verify the correct credentials
- The username to log in is the one registered during VRChat account creation — it may differ from their display name. [Account Recovery]
- They should try logging in with both their VRChat username and their email address, as either can be used.
Reset the password
- If the account was created through the linking process, your friend may need to set or reset their password via the Profile page before they can log in on the SDK, since platform-linked accounts may not have a password set initially. [Account Recovery]
Check for 2FA
- If Two-Factor Authentication is enabled, make sure they have access to their authenticator app and are entering the correct 6-digit code before it expires.
Still not working?
If none of the above resolves the issue, your friend should contact VRChat support directly at help.vrchat.com and submit a ticket describing the situation.

@storm osprey He can only choose discord login on the login page.
Let me check the knowledge base for you again. One moment! :books:
The knowledge sources do not explicitly mention how to switch between Discord login and username/password login on the SDK login page specifically.
However, based on what the knowledge sources do confirm:
- Only a full VRChat account (with email + password) can log into the VRChat SDK. [Account Linking]
- The SDK login does not support platform-based logins (including Discord).
This suggests that if your friend only sees the Discord login option, it's possible that:
- The account linking may not have been completed successfully, or
- The full VRChat account may not have a password set yet, which would prevent SDK login.
Recommended steps
- Have your friend visit vrchat.com/home/profile and log in via Discord there.
- Check if a password has been set on the account, and if not, use the password reset page to set one.
- Once a password is set, try logging into the SDK with the email + password combination.
If the issue persists, the best course of action is to contact VRChat Support directly at help.vrchat.com, as they can investigate the account status in detail.
