I think there might be some confusion installing VRChat on oculus home still installs it on your pc. It installs the version for rift. I would not recommend using the steam version on oculus link it’s even more laggy

Well I do have a laundry list of other gripes like how everyone's running around with custom avatars and no one's talking about how to do it because it's seemingly common knowledge. I'd love to design my own avatar but I quite frankly don't know where to start

Quest is a great headset I just recommend playing VRChat on VRLow on oculus link using oculus home. Don’t even have steam running; the extra layer of abstraction is eating your already super underpowered gpu

But yeah the vrcSDK in unity uplaods avatars to VRChat accounts. You need one. There is no way to log into the SDK with a steam account

Mmm.... learning how to create an avatar from scratch just looks intimidating. Like you got the guy making a basis from a really well-drawn anime art, so gotta learn how to draw, then I gotta learn how to use Blender to sculpt said avatar, then I gotta stuff the model into Unity and make it move the way i want...

3D modding and animating is tech skill, not artistic skill. An eye for aesthetics can certainly help. But it’s not actually required like it is for 2D art

You don't. You just launch oculus link, then open the oculus dash for your desktop, launch SteamVR, and SteamVR appears around you. Then you launch steam games.

Generally the 1660 Super is recommended over the normal GTX 1660 as it doesn't cost that much more but has performance similar to that of a 1660 Ti.

word of advice though, iirc most games you'll need to buy both the pc and quest version

it can become the default sometimes for some reason

@twin falcon If you use ALVR you play the PC version. no installing VRChat on quest needed. Though I personally recommend Virtual Desktop instead of ALVR, I found it much smoother

@haughty coyote The official charging cable is also USB-C. I also don't recommend getting a USB-A to USB-C cable to use as a link cable, even if it's 3.0, USB-A won't charge the quest. Converters won't either. Might want to look into a USB card that has a 3.0 USB-C port. They aren't very expensive. Though GPU's with USB-C slots are known to be ideal for link

I would not count on a USB-C to USB-A cable keeping the quest charged while playing link. I doubt it can charge faster than it gets used... which is very unhealthy for the internal battery

The anker cable is thick and annoying

You really want to avoid the quest fighting a losing battle trying to charge. It is not good for the long-term longevity of the quest's internal battery.

Usb-A to usb-C cables either won’t charge the quest at all, or charge slowly. 2.0 or 3.0 makes no difference in that regard

Some are also wired poorly and only charge when the usb-C end is flipped around a certain way

Those cables exist out of demand but they are not obeying the usb standard, so they aren’t consistently made from one manufacturer to another

knowing this, we can average out the amount of movies you can cram into both versions

You'll fit 2-4 movies in the 64gb version, or double that with the 128gb version

in any case, I don't know why you would want to install more than one or two movies at a time anyways, but if you include games you might not fit any movies without lowering the quality on the 64gb version

Tried all you recommended, including reinstalling the app. Fps doesnt go above 30-40 when there are literally more than 3 players in a room.
Putting safety on max also changed nothing in terms of fps. Just replaced the avatars with the default gray ones.

I have the seen the issue with the black squares. I don't know what causes it, but shutting down the and powering off the quest for a few minutes then powering it back on fixes it. At first I suspected that maybe the quest was just getting too hot, but I'm not 100% certain.

@tribal finch recommend turning off comfort settings in vr chat and maybe when you are playing turn your own body instead of using the controller

It should make you feel less sick, im new to vr and thats what seems to work for me

Also when you buy games make sure to check the comfort rating as games that don't have a good comfort rating will probably give you motion sickness

If you have a PC you can chromecast to it and capture with OBS.

if you just want to show people in the room, you don't even need a computer, any TV that can receive a chromecast can receive the quest's video feed wirelessly

Honestly doubting you have permanent mute, but IF you did just playing the game and making friends is how you rank up preventing permanent mute. The problem is once you hit that low of a rank I doubt it's really possible to come back from that.

the answer to why that's the case on the quest is because you're basically running it on a Android phone and
mobile Hardware isn't terribly great at complicated shaders at this point

The Quest version is in an earlier, less sophisticated testing state so to speak

#

VRChat only released on the quest a little bit ago, and due to the weaker hardware not all worlds and avatars are cross-compatible, regardless of it's stability

Though it isn't as stable or packed with content, there's still plenty to do in the Quest version, and wireless VRChat is really nice, though as of now even with the restrictions there are some framerate issues last I checked

#

It is of course cross-platform and totally compatible with the other versions, but you can't join worlds not optimized for Quest, and you can't see Avatars that aren't optimized for Quest (they appear as robots)

Depends on what kind of robot. Most people don’t know or don’t bother uploading quest versions of avatars, so you can’t see them. Others that do upload one are very laggy so they show as a different kind of robot.

Hey, I got a question for anyone who has connected their Oculus Quest to SteamVR through Virtual Desktop and also used an Xbox Kinect for full body tracking. I'm having issues where the PC now recognizes the Kinect as the microphone and won't pick up sound through the Quest anymore.

@west marlin I do this, you need to go to settings on steam and set your microphone to headset mic, and within vrchat you can set it in your menu to headset mic. Your pc may be auto switching to the newest mic in your default windows settings.
