I’m buying a Quest 2 and planning to use the UGREEN US551 C-to-C Link Cable. The problem is, my PC doesn’t have a USB-C port, and importing a proper C-to-A cable (USB 3.0/3.1) will take about a month. And honestly, I can’t wait that long because I’m way too excited to try VR.

So my question is: would using the C-to-C Link Cable + a C female to USB (3.0 or 3.1) be just as good? Will I lose any performance or stability compared to using a direct C-to-A Link Cable?

They can't add it because it is simply too performance costly, and they have to consider the common worst case, if performance is too low on Quest then people will give up on checking out VRC.
And while it is more doable on the Quest 3 and 3S most people still use the Quest 2, where it is even less viable because it is already struggling cpu wise.

You mean a USB A (rectangle) to USB C (basically an oval) adapter and a usb c to c cable?

Yeah that works, assuming the USB A port is at least 3.0, 3.1 gen 1 or 3.2 gen 1 which are all the exact same thing with different names.

The compression is entirely digital anyway, Quest Link is a clever solution but may as well use any of the wireless solutions if you can.

I tried steamvr link and the streaming quality is so unstable I cannot bear it, sometimes its amazing most times it's garbage, I haven't tried Vr Link from oculus cuz I heard that's worse than the steamvr. Even though my router is 5ghz my quest 2 says it's connected in 2.4ghz, it's very weird.

Your router is probably trying to be smart by combining the 2.4GHz network and 5GHz network, or you aren't connected to the 5GHz wifi network.
If it is the former then you can only fix it by going into the router settings and turning off smart connect or whatever it is called on your router.

Smart connect, a TP-Link thing, makes it guess what network the device should be on and it is often wrong.

Yeah, you go into its settings and just turn off "smart connect", that gives you two wifi networks to connect to and one will, by default, be labeled with _5GHz at the end, which is the one you'd want.

You can only go off playtime on whatever platform you are using, Quest keeps a counter too, forget if it was synced to the cloud though, so might reset on headset swap or reinstall.

So, on quest 2, there are features that prevent memory filling up like 'too many avatars' error when loading avatars or 'disabling some features' that removes stickers and such. I've never seen this activate on quest 3, and I have been just crashing with no warning all the time. Are these safety features not a thing on quest 3?

The recording on computer isn’t a vrc the recording is usually don’t thru obs and just records their screen. You can record on quest using the screenrecord option or get vrc + and use the dolly system

that'd really depend on the laptop's specs but i wouldnt suggest getting a PC reliant headset like index until they've atleast ran the game on the laptop in desktop mode a few time to see if it it lags hard, even some of the beefier setups struggle with VR from time to time. getting a standalone like the Q3 would be good but i would make sure to emphasize that it should be Q3 and not Q1 or Q2 because atp they're both older headsets (and Q2 is the only one out of those two that still has support though its likely to be dropped sometime in the near-ish future id imagine)

plus a standalone headset can always be hooked up to the laptop or new PC setup if they get one later down the line

Quest1 for example has its standalone support dropped but to my knowledge can still be used to play VRChat but requires it to be hooked up to a PC of somekind, thats likely what they'll do for the Quest2 though they haven't released a proper annoucement on when that's happening, its been supported a bit longer then the Q1 was atp but is bound to be dropped at really any time when they wanna use the fullest of the Q3s power (good news for you is that they love supporting the majority of users which happens to be Q2 for their standalone users so unless Meta/Oculus makes a new headset thats far better then what they have now it's likely they'll keep the support up until the amount of users using the Q3 evens out their playerbase)

generally you only see "pixely" avatars if you're viewing a user's imposter generated model. either try changing your settings to allow poor avatar (since i dont think you can go any lower performance wise then that) or manually turning the persons avatars on

though they might not have a quest compatible version uploaded and you're stuck with seeing their imposter

as for the low memory thing thats you loading too many poor quality avatar/worlds iirc which you cant really fix w/o avoid public instances or showing people's avatar (you could also try using more optimized worlds but thats a bit harder)

That sounds like stickdrift, you could try messing with your deadzone in the settings but cleaning the joysticks surrounding crack area with something like compressed air or joystick specific cleaning solution might be good aswell

The "Quest" version of VRChat also includes various Vive and Pico headsets, ignoring that it is supposed to run on phones too.

With VRC+ you can use the dolly system to sort of do it, but it isn't as easy as pointing at starting to record, guessing the fact that it is limited in length helps it not be a crashy feature.

Choosing to show very poor avatars isn't a choice, showing everyone is, showing the people you are talking to isn't (cultural thing), which is where the problem lies.
They can only be vague when it comes to PC because performance available will be wildly different, but when it comes to Quest, Pico, Vive they either have a XR2, XR2+ or XR2 Gen2, all of which have similar or same hardware feature sets and are relatively really close in performance compared to the wide span of VR capable PCs when it comes to both performance and features, like AMD cards don't handle geometry shaders (fur shaders) as well as Nvidia for example.

I explained it earlier but can definitely expand on it, basically every avatar is very poor on Quest, if you want to see someone then you have to show their avatar or deal with imposters or an inaccurate fallback (which most people seem to dislike seeing) and you will most likely show the avatars of the people around you and also not hide people you stop talking to, while you would hide someone with a terribly unoptimized avatar, you probably won't for just a badly performing one.

When the performance loss is cumulative instead of one big drop it limits your options for fixing it.

So VRChat knows that when they add a new feature it eats up average performance, which is a whole lot more measurable on Quest with its limited hardware choices. Add audio sources or lights and VRChat can expect a notable amount will exist in every instance and be loaded by every user.

And lights have the potential to be insanely expensive, each avatar a light touches needs to be re-rendered again, for. each. light, if a light touches a horribly performing avatar it suddenly becomes twice as expensive to compute.
Which is why it is limited, the worst case performance for lights is basically infinite.

It’s been some time since I played in VR so I motivated myself to replay the issue being that I use Virtual desktop to connect to my computer and be able to set up my trackers etc... Virtual Desktops 0 bug I can navigate smoothly but as soon as I start steamVR I constantly have freezes that literally prevent me from playing because of the lag. When I return to the Virtual Desktop menu no lag again only SteamVR lag.

For a good but simple and free FBT I suggest Viso! Unfortunately it’s only available on IOS :( but if you have a good PC and want really nice FBT I suggest Slime trackers, ViveFBT, or a tracker suit, and an AMAZING FBT is Vive+Slime trackers if your PC FBT, an Amazing free FBT is three to four iPhones running Viso!

Well it seems to me (and i may be wrong) but vrc is slowly discriminating against stand alone quest. Or that is what im seeing with these removal of items. Seeing how there is an option to turn off avi sounds and avis completely. My sheild level is on max for anyone besides friends and i never crashed/lagged unless it was a world. Tldr version: bring back avis with flashlights and avi sounds for quest. If it lags or crashes, mess with sheild settings.
