For me, I have an Anker Nano II charger that only has a USB C port, so, I use a C to C cable. Keeps it charged.

But, USB C to A works too.

C to A doesn't keep it charged though the battery went down 1% every 2 minutes so the total play time would only be like an hour 30 or something like that where when it's plugged into the normal charging tower I have I would be able to play all night long ussaly

if you run out of memory, the quest has no choice but to kill the game

No, when the quest runs out of RAM, it basically considers the app taking all of it as trying to take out the Quest OS so it ends the offending task, which in this case is VRChat. That’s what happens under the hood, while playing the game it just looks like everything freezes and VRChat crashes

For clarity are you trying to run VRChat on the PC to stream to your Quest headset?

Because you can do that, and use your Quest controllers.

to run PCVR on quest, youll need both SteamVR and the oculus app. connect your headset, set it up through the oculus app, then launch steamvr and vrc. if you see vrc, congrats! if your system crashes, it probably isnt powerful enough to run vr at all

(theres probably other vrchat clients than thru steam but steamvr is probably one of the easiest ways to go)

Everything will look better in terms of textures, shaders, most likely frame rate, and things like that. However if you have a lot of complicated and crazy stuff happening on screen you might notice some compression. Since you aren’t able to plug the headset straight into your GPU like an Index or Rift, your computer needs to render it on the GPU, and then compress it so send it through the USB, then the quest decompresses it as well as it can which is pretty good, but if you know what to look for or craziness is happening you might notice a little bit of that compression coming through

I've enjoyed going to dance parties in VRC on my gaming PC and dance parties in Altspace when on my Quest. Something I loved about Altspace is that dance parties there were always guaranteed to have good performance for Quest users. Now Altspace is dying and I want to join dance parties in VRC on my Quest but so far when I've tried it's too laggy, probably because my Quest can't handle rendering so many avatars. anybody know how to stop vrchat from crashing on quest 2. Whenever I try to load into a world like black cat that isn't even at full capacity, peoples avatars just start loading in and then I crash. This happens every time I try to play but sometimes I will get like 5-10 minutes into playing and then it will crash. It feels like VrChat is very horribly optimized. anybody have a fix?

Be selective with whose avatar you show, while I do not think it is always the case, there is crasher avatars around, but most commonly I believe it is just that all those avatars are taking up enough RAM that the Quest decides that VRChat could cause the OS to crash and therefore it closes VRChat.

My very personal guess (based on very little) is that recent Quest and VRChat updates are using more RAM than expected, or in a way the OS doesn't like, because I've seen more of this mentioned recently, it is possible that a factory reset could help.
And if you have filled up your Quest's storage then a pure guess of mine is that you'll want to clean that up, VRChat does use 20GB for cache, but it might also use a bit for "swapping" (I am not sure if this happens on it though).

It has gotten way worse with the group update idk why but my guess is also the same as the dude above me, RAM because like i said even with max security, good storage and a cleared cache i still find myself crashing 50% of the time on quest. its not vrchat thats horribly optimized. its the avatars. and keep in mind the quest is about as powerful as a school computer

go to your quick menu settings and turn down your displayed avatar radius and count. thats the best way to do it

i dont think youll get any decent help here- this chat is mainly for standalone, not PCVR. however, try replicating the issue in a discord call using a regular microphone, itll simplify things and make the fix easier

Also a long time standalone user tho not a long time vr chat user ive played long enough to tell something is off this update, i cant take as much players in one world as i could before, i crash almost twice as much as i did before with the same safety settings (which is almost max) and it all happened this update.

I do want to give vrchat the benefit of the doubt and i will right now, it could be that there is just a massive uptake in crashers and crashers that hit pass the safety settings, but this would be a massive jumped to what ive run into in prior years which could be very possible.

Especially with the introduction of groups allowing group of crashers to crash and spread there avatars around more then ever i do think that is what happening. And again i do also think the RAM issue mentioned above could be the second closet possibility, the update impacting it in some way

each update adds more program size which adds more to be loaded onto the ram. but with the avatar limiter feature, i only crash after already playing for an extended period, being in a large map, with a mirror on, plus a bunch of enabled avis already

So bit of a question/ feature request for Quest standalone. Anyway to record the view of the camera directly on the headset? It would be a huge help for content creators and an easy way of optimizing it would probably have something to do with using a system that saves recordings in a separate album for VRChat. That would also require a n in game recording system, but if it’s done correctly, it could actually end up being more optimized than recording from the oculus menu. Also, let us select aspect ratio of our recordings, I feel like that part is obvious, but whatever.

If you didn't checkout the New years world, they actually have a video recording system like that, kinda, it was made for world usage, but Tupper said in a dev update that there is no reason why it couldn't be available to players. (also while it is available in that world, only VRC devs can use it in worlds right now).

So I want to say something about quest 3 And vrchat, like if the quest 3 have enough more power, like if could let the quest 3 do more things like some things that only pc vrchat can do

Like maybe only pc worlds could work on it or something, just a thought

It won't have that much more power.
And ignoring that Unity asset bundles are architecture compiled mean a Quest literally cannot view PC content, you'd need a Quest with at least 16GB of RAM (Q2 has 6GB) if you wanted to see PC content, which is ignoring that your ordinary gaming PC has 16GB of RAM and a graphics card with VRAM, which would equal 24-26GB of total memory.

The lack of RAM is likely the main cause behind Quest crashing a lot.

And that is with the 10MB avatar limitation (which people get around with crunch compression which isn't helping at all)

well. the other main difference between PC and standalone VR is the PCs gpu isnt working as hard

like this alone is far more than what a single PC playing VRC on a monitor does

(non-4k monitors are largely 920x1080, this thing has to render almost 4x the pixels, twice, and they arent just the same frame played on two screens)

like the quest isnt a particularly powerful machine, but the main reason it doesnt get to do a whole lot compared to PC or PCVR is more of a fundamental issue with VR hardware itself

that on top of the super complex and fantastic avis that PC gets to show off is why PCVR is so intensive (and expensive) compared to standalone VR, and the meme of "lol 4090 gets 24 fps in vrc" is a thing

(quest2 also suffers from mobile cooling but thats another issue entirely)

Try restarting your router, ive had that issue on vr chat some mobile games, overwatch where my connection tho there and works perfectly fine on other apps cannot be confirmed by the specified game and the game then times me out thinking its a fraudulent connection (mod,hacks, private servers style stuff etc)

Restarting my router then my headset usally fixes it and in the really annoying chance id reinstall the entire game

So, I'm having an issue. I was making a world for quest vrchat and it used to work completely fine, However with the newest version of VRC, the world just makes vrchat crash.

No changes were made to the world at all during that time, plus super simple worlds with not many people crash as well.

ok, so when a company says theyre not supporting a piece of hardware anymore, all that means is that theyre phasing out/stopping software updates for the operating system of that hardware. they dont and really cant control what updates are made to third party software (like vrchat) that goes on that hardware. what this means is, theyre slowly dropping support for quest1. theyre not adding any new features right now, and in a year theyll stop doing the important part, which is security updates. meaning its far more likely that viruses and hacks and the like will be more common after a year, as theyll stop patching out the vulnerabilities these rely on

why does it not have any kind of transparency for avatars on the shaders made for it?
like i heard that is for performance issues but like
goddam nintendo 64 and like ps1 had transparency how is the quest not powerful enough to handle it?

Quest's mobile GPU architecture cannot efficiently handle transparancy, its hardware just isn't designed to handle it efficiently (it helps with making other things more efficient however, ARM was made with power efficiency over all).

Also it doesn't matter whether you are fine with loosing frames, what actually matters is if the people around you are fine with you costing them extra frames, this is a social game so the perspective should always be from the other people when it comes to things like this.

VRChat crashing, or more likely the Quest crashing VRChat because it is using too many resources.
It is an odd issue and the only thing I have seen fix it is doing a factory reset of the Quest.

I can recommend trying to be prepared for it because the Quest OS is unstable in general and factory resetting after the buggy OS updates has quite often in the past helped fix inconsistent bugs, not every bug, but has helped.

Didn't say it wasn't possible, it is just hard on the hardware. And you have to care because VRChat is a social game and that is what all limitations use as a basis, adding ambiguity would just confuse people a ton.

Whenever the Quest gets overloaded the OS decides to crash the app it is currently running, which happens quite often with VRChat.
Manually show less avatars and it should help alleviate it, the auto avatar hider doesn't help in this case.

If it is happening a ton when you are just joining worlds alone then best thing I can recommend is doing a factory reset, because Quest software is buggy.

It doesn't unload avatars, the manual hider doesn't technically either, but it should be giving up the RAM space it is using if required, the auto hider can't since it isn't fully hiding the avatar.

What the auto hider does is limit the amount of avatars that are needed to be loaded into the GPU for rendering, which doesn't mean much for Quest since the RAM is used as VRAM anyway.

Where I assume the auto hider helps with Quest is in draw calls, since the Quest especially doesn't handle many draw calls well. But I do not think it does anything to help issues with RAM, which was the context of my statement.

There are two "limits", the soft cap (for public instances and because of a bug, group instances) and the hard cap, which is double the soft cap, which can only be reached by inviting people or using a friends/friends+ instance.

The max soft cap is 40 people.
The max hard cap is therefore 80 people

its a matter of optimization is all. vrchat and spacial have different SDKs and likely run things very differently- its likely that VRC being an older VR platform not being built with the quest in mind means that other platforms with better opportunities are more optimized for standalone VR

When u press air link and click my pc I connect but then it brings up 4 requirements, network band, channel width, ethernet connection, and Wi-Fi signal strength and the only one that’s not working is Ethernet connection

From what I heard was that the Quest Version was made, so that even quest 1 users can have a good experience, but how is it looking if most peoples have already a quest 2 and some even a quest 3?
Can we maybe increase the limitations if we only have to focus for Quest 2 & 3 in the future?

Unless VRChat can have a different release channel for each headset, new one having better hardware means nothing. Many of the people with the current sets have them because they can't afford to just get new hardware. The existing install base will remain for most Quest Users

The Q1 and Q2 are not that much different in hardware. The only way that you will see less restriction is with full drop of Q1, Q2, or separate releases for each headset

If you have a potato PC and set your graphic setting to 4k and Ultra, you also don't tell the developer that his game runs on 3fps if you want to run it with the highest setting.
Would you complain RDR2 to bad bad optimised and slow if you try to run it on a GTX750 and a intel Pentium?
