Asking the same question/problem on different channels is against the rules of the sever. I believe that thing you are explaining is based on the camera settings for each world and not a setting you can change

Just reduce one of your textures. Keep it 1024x2048 or 2048x1024 at most
A single 2048x2048 is usually too big even if it’s the only texture
1024x1024 is small enough to let you have diffuse, normal, metallic, emissive, and smoothness

No real reason to have a second material unless you need a separate shader.
Atlas the textures together and use one material instead
For spawnable props, make them shape keys or 0 scale bones that are part of the same Skinned mesh, instead of separate meshes, avoids adding a material for the separate mesh

You have to change the build from PC to android
though you'll want to upload it to the same blueprint for both - PC and android - otherwise only quest users will be able to see you

I don't do scratch models... check the commission discord it's in #community-servers-old . But just be warned the price for 3d modeling work is pretty high

@Nanachi Usagi Saisho#2725 have a model that is 3 avatars in one, with 3 entire skeletons, all one Skinned mesh render. Bind the bones of one of them to humanoid and put rotation constraints on the copies to follow the humanoid one. Possible on quest but you might go over the bone limit.
Hi! Does anybody here have any creative solutions for lowering a model's polygon count without losing shape keys?
normally i just lower the body and keep the face the same, but this model needs all the polygons it can get
i tried tris to quads and un-subdividing, but it didnt look quite right
now what im hoping to do is somehow transfer the shape keys from the hires model to the low res, or just find another way of decimating altogether

Gumroad has a few models listed for 0 dollars that you can base off of. Really depends on what you're looking for.
Really any model can be used as a base, the only limitation is copyright and licensing. And even that doesn't stop some people.

Take the Particle's texture and drag it onto the particle system in the hierarchy
Then edit the material to be the vrchat mobile one
Keep in mind quest doesn't support alphas, so the texture on the Particles will have a black square background

So I'm trying to port this avatar for my Quest friend to see it. And there's one last thing it's saying isn't allowed. And it's 'Sprites/Default', and it wants it changed to something in the 'VRChat/Mobile' thing. But it won't show were that could be at all.
Sounds like it would be part of a particle system
Like, I've gotten everything else with shaders. And I've removed all the particles.
These things tend to not make mustakes. Must be either a model or a particle system burried somewhere.
Do deactivate every other avatar in the scene, besides the one you are trying to upload
Yeah, I hit select and it shows me the inspector area for it.
I've only got one, so it's the only one active.
You surely must have a Sprite/Default material somewhere in your project, try finding it and then right clicking and pick Find References in Scene
it could also be an fbx-embedded material that you aren't using but it's still in the fbx. so check in there and extract it if so
Don't know how to "Find References" for the scene, brand new to all of this, so I don't even know what the fbx-embed would be.
if you expand your fbx file in unity they will show it's contents, and any materials if it has embedded ones

To ignore them, uncheck this:
Must be somewhere in the scene then... check all your material files in the project, one of them must be Sprites/Default
in the file search bar, type t:Material
My SDK was covering it smh
you can dock the SDK on the right side, so Inspector and the Control panel share a pane and are just tabs, much easier to work with
just drag the little tab and drop it next to the inspector tab

they are disabled in the scene, do I just delete them? I have a copy of this avatar stored away in a different folder.
you can check if it's on your avatar by right clicking it and picking "Find References in Scene"

Quest doesn't support invisible shaders. You'll have to delete those part sof the avatar in Blender
or, since it's already invisible, just delete the meshes from the chair
you don't need them
So just click CharBase and hit delete.
you can have the chairbase. it just can't have an invisible shader. since you want it to be invisible, just don't have the model. you can keep the chair
it will just be a chair with no model, rather than being invisible

Well. Just setting it to some random shader works too. I'm not trying to make this one perfect at all, I just want my friend to be able to see this avatar again xD
Basically slapping a bandaid on it.
The only thing left is RigidBody, but that one is in the list of "found on the Avatar and will be removed by the client"

You must obtain at least "New User" Trust Rank in our Trust and Safety system in order to upload content. You can get this by just spending a few hours in VRChat, hop some worlds, and make some friends. Give it some time and you'll be able to upload content in no time.
As an aside, you must have a VRChat account to upload content. That means you can't use a Steam account, Oculus account, or Viveport account to upload content like worlds or avatars.

Polycount affects file size and for mobile devices you want that as low as possible so the Quest doesn't get overloaded. @wispy flicker

As long as someone is showing your avatar then yeah, it can hurt others. Another killer is texture size and material counts. Same concept as polys, causes big download

@cursive sage 59k polys is wayy overkill for a quest avatar, youre going to want to work it down to at least under 10k
and dynamic bones aren't supported on quest avatars

@pastel storm Just make sure to convert the mmd using some YouTube videos. There’s a a lot of them that show you how.
Also if the poly count is over kill try to decimate the mmd just so that your Quest doesn’t have a heart attack.

@pastel storm Yeah you can use an avatar with any amount of polys for Quest but you'll get better performance and be more courteous to others if you use one within the recommended limits. Same goes for the material count (hard on the already weak CPU) and texture size.
That's the big issue I see frequently is a bunch of Quest users just popping mics at each other while they all rock
on Quest.

@pastel storm there’s no limit to how many polys you can see for yourself, but if you are over 7500, no one sees you by default. If you are over 10000, no one sees you unless they specifically select you and pick always show avatar.

Toon is actually lit. If you want unlit use “VRChat/mobile/standard lite” and put a copy of the texture on emission slot
Unlit makes you look like a lightbulb in vr though especially in dark worlds I strongly recommend just using toon
Even toony avatars look better when they at least get shaded with the world’s ambient light. No glowing in caves and such

anyway, my solution was to lower the red color balance to make up for toon lit's red hue

I don’t think toon has an inherent red hue, unity just has a yellow directional light by default

There’s no real way to test 3.0 avatars on quest right now but the assumption is it will be fully compatible with the new features

oh no. delete it right now.
You can always see yourself no matter how high the polygon count. Others will see you blocked by default unless they choose to unblock it

With particles having black boxes. Pretty sure that was intended as transparency can be pretty performance heavy for mobile hardware.
Though at the end of the day you can still use meshes as particles and those should work fine without having to worry about a black border around your texture due to transparency.

The only other thing I can think of is to make sure you have the correct Unity version and the latest SDK. All of my error bot problems were fixed by reuploading but yours is clearly another issue so idk 😦

That's a prefab file not the actual file for it, thus you can't see the model import settings for it.

@unkempt nymph To upload the avatar to quest, in Unity, you need to go to file/ Build Settings/ Android/ and click Switch Platform at the bottom. Then, you need to make sure that all your materials are quest compatible. Under the shader menu of the material, find VRChat/ Mobil/ and choose one of the shaders that you want. Depending on the avatar, more may need to be done, but these are the basic steps.

SDK 3 is for making worlds
SDK 2 is for making avatars
SDK 3 can be used for both worlds and avatars, just get the appropriate SDK3 unity package for Avatars or World.

upload your model to PC and when its done uploading go save it and your project and click on File on the top left, go to build settings and click on android and click switch plats, after its done you can upload it like you do normally with pc just go to the vrchat control panel and upload it like normal
if it says your model is to big meaning its more then 10MB then go in blender and remove some shapekeys that are not used for anything and try again
if your over 10 mb. that not normal

All avatars with a laying down prone idle have the virtual hands WAY offset from irl hands, and also made the hips controlled by the thumb stick on some avatars as well

Remember Quest avatars can be more the 10K polys it will just be marked as very poor and people will have to click "show avatar" and Quest avatars currently have a 10MB file upload limit so as long as the avatar is less then 10MB you can upload it to quest, something that can help lower the file is in unity lower the resolutions of your textures by clicking the texture in unity and changing the res down. Shape keys add a bit of file so make sure you remove any and all shapekeys your never going to use.
If it's PC only avatars and you're on standalone quest then no.

Why not? If you're doing avatars that big it's someone's choice if they unblock your avatar so might as well go over 32k if you have to since you don't get auto shown unless someone turns their safety settings off or unblocks your avatar themselves
Its a phone vr. Not game have asset with more then that. Vr is more expensive.
It can run it, and it's on someone if they want to show the avatar. It doesn't lag out the game much or if at all most of the time
I'm still new as heck to making avatars, so most are going to go over 10k since I haven't learned optimization beyond cats (and I have yet to get decimation to work)
No point in breaking avatars or degrading them much unless you go over 10mb

It's worse on pc since people don't all have the same hardware but on quest everyone has almost the same thing so it's easy to tell when something is going to affect or crash someone

It's not a PC so don't expect everything to run smoothly 100% of the time cause not even a pc can do that. You're already stuck seeing robots all the time so might as well have more if you really are that concerned over crashing or lagging badly cause again you have full choice in VR chat to leave a world or block avatars to your heart's content if you are running badly. It's the same way on pc

Some people like me spend thousands of hours in VRChat, we want to customize our avatars the best as we can and enjoy the avatars. Most accessories will cost about 2-8k poly already. My pc tower + vr kit cost 4600$+, I don't want to use low poly avatars just because some folks uses a 500$ vr setup with no pc. It's fucked up

From what I've seen snail markers don't work well on quest but if they are using pc I'd suggest an impim which there are a few worlds on quest that have them but the eyes are broken on quest

If by object, you mean material, than it's certainly possible. Just try and keep the poly count low so any Quest users don't have a hard time

I duplicate the light beam, expand the normal a little and flip the normal. To be lit in darkness use standart lite to have an emmision on it.

Bonus. I made a shapekey that expend it a little. In unity the animation on frame 0 have 0 and on frame 1 its 100. So it will flicker

Was trying to do 3.0 stuff for a quest avatar but a lot of my toys are locked down. What things would people like to try for quest? Texture swaps seem doable but not much else specific to 3.0 that I know of
Maybe a hand pat mover? Just want to get something out there that can’t be done in 2.0
@ivory bay Do some things with animations/gestures. And try and steer clear from taxing avatars. Texture swaping might be doable, but the quest requires a lot of compromises and optimizations.
Yhea doing mesh toggles isn’t going to work for most quest avatars due to the poly limit, so just texture swaps seem viable.
I can’t do constraints so no world objects like my mirror, no non-mobile shaders so cant do hue or saturation sliders. So just have to stick with animations I guess
And animation outside puppet controls is beyond me and likely could be done in 2.0 by a fixed animation. So manual movement, desktop head pats and the like
I mean, you can totally do more animations with 3.0
Like 30 dances? I mean I guess. I was trying to focus on functionality unique or assistive with 3.0

CTRL Shift B in Unity will bring up the build option. You gotta choose the android build (probably have to download it first) so it can be uploaded for Quest

I use VRoid as well, for those textures, if you're wanting to use anything from them, I'd just suggest cutting around the physical shapes you'd like to keep since Quest cannot use transparency

Most PC avatar creators who create avis for quest, typically go to the max they can go and upload it. And since they "Can't" test it, they just leave it as is
@ivory bay I mean, "technically" you can go a tiny bit over but those are the recommended just for everyone to have an enjoyable experience without massive frame rate decrease
I still do my best to optimize though, easiest way is to separate by materials and if you can decimate enough without it looking too potato, you're good.
yhea I could only edit my prefered one down to 13000 tris before it just started breaking. I may just buy a quest avatar base to work on from there.
have you tried dissolving Edge Loops instead of whatever you did to decimate

you may have imported a model using a shader not supported by quest, you need to do the VRchat mobile shaders

Also unpack completely just also unpacks any prefabs inside the prefab that you're unpacking iirc.
The normal "Unpack prefab" just unpacks the one you selected.

@pastel storm go to vr chat in your shaders menu and then go onto the mobile option and pick a shader out of that. Just selecting vr mobile ones will not work

Diffuse i believe
The model is pink right? I'd say try using standard lite or toon lit and see what happens
How do I use those? When it’s pink I just make it into the diffuse and it gives it textures
If it's diffuse and it gives it textures then you should be good to upload the avatar, you might have a hidden shader that you can't see. Go to your materials and keep changing everything to bumped diffuse if that's the shader you plan on using

Like materials after I select the avatar in the asset folder and it’s on the menu on the right?
There should be an option that says materials on the bottom right at the top where you find all of your files for the unity project

Found this which should help show you the locationz it should say materials at the top. Click on it and it will pull up all materials in the project. Unless you know which materials the avatar uses by clicking through them individually and finding which one is a hidden shader error and change it to bumped diffuse

Yep this will happen sometimes when porting stuff to quest where they will have hidden materials and yep
You're welcome, just make sure to check out that file If it ever says there's a material that you can't find

Save the project as a new name and then try reupload by going to file then save as then name it and try uploading again
