I have a custom animation file my friend gave me how do I add it to my avatar ?

I have this custom object which is separate to my character which I have paired to a new bone in Blender. In blender pose mode works to rotate and position the object. However in Unity rotating the bone does nothing, any ideas?
You should pair it within Unity instead of Blender.

Model works, camera in game seems to be about a meter to the right of the actual model even though it shows up as aligned in Unity

I need help, I'm using desktop, and I've overridden an emote with a blend shape animation. But when I press the custom emote in the game, my character freezes for the full animation frame. I made the override on a copy of the avatar like I'm supposed to, and I've done all the steps to the dot.
Is there any where to find the finger data of hand gestures? Like, how much each joint is bent to make the in game peace sign, that kind of thing. I want to be able to assign facial expressions to hand gestures, but still have the hand gesture go through.

@thick ledge it's most likely because you have dynamic bones on a skirt (or something similar). The only way to fix that is to go back in blender, root all the skirt bones under a root parent bone, and reupload it
well its looks to be boned correctly. Hips is root with left leg, right let, and skirt 1-6, spine

CATS has an auto parent option you can try, but it can be wonky sometimes

i just make a random bone and assign it skirt parrent?
otherwise you need to go into edit mode, select the hip bone on your model, ctrl + D to dupe the hip bone, select all the skirt bones with SHIFT+ left click, select the duped'd hip bone LAST with shift + left click, hit ctrl + P in the inspector where your model is, and click "keep offset"

Is there something I need to do in the animation panel to show world particles attached to my clone for animating purposes? I can tick play on awake / not hide it on the original to always have flames shooting, and then play a rocket launch animation, and that works. But I can't seem to hide the flames on the original, and show them on the animation during the override.

@acoustic talon isnt the camera imitating the player camera so if other people come close to the particle effect it will dissapear for them

Alright. I built the same character, except for I waited until the moment of upload in order to hide the particle in the game object on the original. Play on awake is ticked.
I had to join vrchat, select new avatar, it froze. Started again joined and tried it, no particle, joined again and it worked?

like a plane game object? you would put it under the head in the model's hierarchy and it should stay in place with the head automatically @thick ledge

yep, all extra models should be under the bone hierarchy if you want them to move with the animation

So it's probably something really dumb that I did but I just can't find a solution, including after searching online, and I'm getting kind of desesperate...
So I've already made several animations without any real isue, but now I just can't create new ones or edit the ones I already made anymore...
When I select any animation (old or new), the "add properties" button is greyed out, and when I click on a model to select it it immediately opens the last animation I made before getting this problem... Does anybody here have an idea of how I could fix this please ?

At the moment it seems, yes. Objects only appear as long as the emote/gesture is used

@candid flame you probably have a controller in the controller slot for the model you're trying to edit the animations on. just switch it to none and you should be able to edit it

its hard to figure out what the proper direction to set it as is because it looks different in the animation vs. the regular model in tpose and then how it looks in VRchat
ive got a banana thats a spartan laser. Trying to get the laser particles to shoot the right direction

There is one thing that can help
it lets you just grab the bones in unity and move them with scroll bars. It'll auto keyframe the settings

I had a similar problem with a cape before. It works but you will have to reduplicae the animation model and copy all the animation keys over so that the cuffs stay in position.

Hmm the animations are from a Asset pack. Which I then modified to work with the rigs. So they aren't created off the duplicated assets like usual

almost sounds like it's pulling the positional in addition to rotational data for bones (though I haven't tried doing VMD imports before, so I'm just guessing at this point, sorry)
Haven't tried VMDs on a Humanoid yet but whenever I try to get it working on an object that it came with, only half of the stuff works.
the issue i think is. You have to import the animation into Blender and then Export as FBX on the model you want. Thing is because you have to click Fix Model it breaks/changes all the bones to match Unity/VRchat. Which no long matches the animation of the Fixed model.
So even though it loves perfect in Unity on the model in the FBX it looks horrible on a VRchat model.
currently i'm trying to figure out why despite having an animation where i get kicked and fall backward a few feet. My account ingame stays stationary while doing the motions. As if the Z value is locked and isn't allowed to change.

I did a duplicate, created 1 frame animation, deleted the duplicate, moved the anim file to override and moved the overrides to avatar.

you have to run a transform on the animation and have all the frames have it at the height you want it at

best bet is to attach a particle system to the weapons that float around it
i added visemes and they work fine, but the default state is with my mouth open and it doesnt make sense because the Tpose in unity has the mouth closed and my other avatar works fine with visemes and mouth is closed when u arent talking

@trim copper disable/hide the object that's on your back in the animation

Do the opposite of making the object "appear"
So look for the object, and instead of checking the box saving is active, uncheck the box instead.

I don't think you can trigger one gesture animation with another unless you gesture both correctly one after the other.
I think I found the problem: when the walk animation ends, it goes to the idle animation for a fraction of a second, then restart the walk loop. Now, the head position for the idle animation is way more different than the walk one, thus why it makes a suttle cut. The animation is fine. it's the transition. And i'm not sure if there's a way to fix that @clear yew

How do you make a flying/float animation? I know how to make animations and have made plenty before but trying to make an idle float animation has been giving me problems. If I change the avatar position or Root T y position in the animation, the character just hangs upside down and the view point doesn't change to match the height.
it wouldn't surprise me if you had to animate the View Position to match where you moved the rest of the model
my question would be what if I wanted to hang upside-down, how could I get the view to flip ๐
Sorry if this is a noob question but I watched nearly all the youtube videos on animation overrides and didn't see a consensus on whether to put the custom override animation controller in the animation controller slot in the Animator component or Not. I get it that you're suppose to put it in the custom standing and seated anims slots. I experimented with leaving it blank and got unexpected behavior. But then again I got unexpected behavior when I filled it in too. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Btw trying to animate magic cirlce, then rising particles, then my fire wings spawn. I can set delays and time on magic cirlce and rising particles, but not wings. If i want to wait for the wings to spawn after the magic circle and rising particles activate how do i plop that in animator?
I haven't done so much in animator yet.. but can't you make the wings invisible till X-time after the animation starts, then make them appear after?
tried that in animator by having the wings not checked then checking them at 4s but still instant turn on when i press play
The tick box will only hide the wings in the scene, not in play.
What you can do.. (slightly cheating) is hide the wings under the ground, and when they are needed, make them jump back onto your bag in the span of 1 frame.
That way they'll "appear" invisible
Other than that, you might need a Script for it..

There's actually a more creative way to do it since you get a lot of options when making an animation for a particle system but I assume he figured it out

And if you 'prewarm' it it could show up at any time, so leave that unchecked

Once you click on the Male_Standing_Pose in the Project View, you can expand it to show all the animations. Duplicate the one you're after, click it in the project view, go to the Animation tab and voila
its kinda unfortunate that following tupper's tutorial he has you buy a 15 dollar unity store plugin for this stuff and doesn't actually show you how to use it

Hello, I'm having some issues too, I added dynamic bones to the skirt of my char, and colliders to the knees, in Unity it seems all fine, skirt barely moves, as I want, but in VRChat it ignore the colliders and goes through them, I have like 0.5 damping, 0.2 elasticity, 0.9 inert and 0.2 radius, so it should be almost a static skirt with a very low movemente, but it just flirts away to the very back of my char :c

Do generic rigs not work with VRChat animations?
I'm using a boneless avatar with an animation override that is supposed to enable a particle system and an audio source,
but in VRChat the model just freezes up and nothing happens ๐ฆ
but no addition or reduction has even changed the distortion sound

@stark wraith if you mean the default animations, im pretty sure those are reliant on a human rig

no, you'd just need to make emotes using the rig you used
