Are there any good tutorials on lightmapping or preparing a mesh for lightmaps in blender/unity so when I bake it it looks good and not weird

i need a hand! i bought a world off of somebody and i uploaded the world just fine to make sure that it worked, but now ive gone back and added pictures (all just on planes, with standard shader) and it wont upload/update, it takes like 2 hours (partly because of bad internet) just for it to say failed to upload when it looks like its 75% done uploading, the person i purchased it from doesnt know what the issue could be so im wondering if anyone here can help me! im going to go to sleep right away but @ me if you want to see any of it to help me out, thanks in advance!!

What causes player's local camera(selfie) to have a white layer over it when post processing is on.
It was fine til I tweaked my PPV2 settings and now whenever I pull my camera out, it has a white overlay on it

Normally best case scenario is to close unity. Open file explorer and delete VRCSDK folder and the plugins folder. Re-launch Unity then reimport latest SDK choice

Also refer to your console tab for any errors
Import errors can prevent other assets from importing correctly
any broken scripts get rid of them. Assuming you migrated from 2017?

hey what sdk do i need to create worlds VRCSDK3?
Both SDK2 and 3 can create worlds
SDK2 is for the old triggers and classic way of creating your worlds
SDK3 is for UDON
SDK3 however cannot be used to upload avatars
if i delete my labs submission could i upload another? my mirror is scuffed and i wanna change a few things but i lost the file i gotta start from scratch and wanna have a labs submission up
you have to wait one week for a new world
but if you still have the world ID, you can update the world though
So I can upload a whole new world just with that world ID
like my unity project file doesnt exist anymore, could i make a world and overwrite the current one?

Hello, i tried to add the iwaSyncVideo Player to my world, But both versions 2.1 and 2.2 don't work. Nothing happens when I click on "Video" or "Live". In the 2.2 Version i tried to add the SpawnVideo & SpawnStream to the Scene Descriptor > Dynamic Prefabs elements 0 and 1. But it still didn't work.
Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Image format really doesn't matter much when unity converts everything anyways, anything lossless is fine
I would not convert my assets to lossy formats like jpg
Honestly i have the same idea about not converting to jpg but when you really think about it, a lot of people are not staring at every little detail and shadow of your avatar to be like "oh jpg why"
But it's just something personal that kicks in when you are working with it in unity up-close
It's not gonna be jpg ingame though that's what I mean
yeah, if you import a super compressed jpg and a lightly compressed jpg - it may different on your HDD - but it will be the same size in Unity while still inheriting the lossy grossness so you might as well use lossless
It makes your project folder bigger possibly, but it won't affect anything else

only thing im worried about is world size, size on my pc isn't much of a problem
I honestly kind of subconsciously dodge most of the worlds that are over 180+ mb's unless they look really really good on the preview or it's some big event

its not just you, its most people that do that
some people have slow connections so loading worlds takes longer, then they give up and never give your world a try
i don't mind the space but it's more of how long you have to wait for it to download and then initialize and even in the end it most likely will be very low fps and unoptimized
so when i make my worlds, i always try my best to keep it under 100mb
hell i try to shoot for 50mb
yeah, my mark is like 80mb or so, as soon as it goes over it i'm panicking in trying to compress as much as i can without making it look bad
most of my worlds are night worlds, so i can get away with some textures not looking great
can you use mirrors like on those tank periscopes when 2 mirrors reflect on eachother to show what's going on outside?
A trick that might help when it comes to cutting size without quality in our case (if you have the perf budget) is to actually use detail maps. You can drop your max size lower than you'd expect, and use tiled detail nrmals + dirt/noise detail albedos to augment the high frequency detail
I got away with using a stupid low texel density on this desk + cabinet bcs I knew I could just use detail maps to match the rest of the scene (altho its a little extreme in this case)

I though the VRC UI Shape was supposed to add a box collider that fit the Canvas. It's not doing it, and me adding one no matter how thin results in the little blue selector trail acting as if it's still a box shaped collider.

Yeah, you probably want to ask that in UDON on how to sync pickups or something because on VRCSDK2 there used to be VRC_Object sync component but it's not in VRCSDK3 so i assume you must make your own way to sync objects for now

Trying to make a block movable on the x axis only (left and right movement). These are my settings, but when I pick the block up VRC allows me to move it like I would any other object...any idea why?
I think you should rather try adding a configurable joint to the object
(not sure if it would work tho, I know Unity but I'm still new to the VRchat stuff)

I can't seem to upload my world; it crashes every time, but it was fine yesterday? Does anyone know if this might just be due to the whole Unity Curl thing?
I would really like to test if crashing happens due to that but i'm not getting a curl issue in the first place at all

Is it still possible with the 2018 SDK 3 to have drivable vehicles? I thought I heard something about the standard assets not being whitelisted with SDK 3 and I assume those are what are used to make vehicles work. I'm guessing one could create them with UDON as well, but I was looking for a quick easy way to add a wheeled vehicle with good physics.

I want to make a trigger to enable or disable Bloom, Blur and Ambient oclussion separately, but I don't know how to select each one. How should I do it?
i think you have to create different post-processing objects with different profiles that have each one enabled individually and then make an animation to change their weights, that's how i did it at least, it may be much simpler
or no animation to change weights necessary actually, i just was thinking of how i'd animate post processing effects in general, but if you just want to swtich them on and off, then setting their weight and enabling/disabling them should be good

yo im trying to upload a greenhouse world but I keep getting this error, anyone know how to fix this? The side bar on the right is the script in the folders its having me go to for the error. Its letting me test the world with 0 issue, but I cant click confirm details or edit the picture of the world when I try to upload.

but the 2 issues i have is that 1. the ball just always starts off on the floor
2. none of the triggers seem to work

I would delete the prefab and start over. usually peoples biggest issue is the respawn
anyways, make sure the stool has a collider on it

on the plate, if it's missing a mesh collider, add it. then, on the trigger on the ball, make sure the respawn point is set in the ball respawn trigger
it might say like "target" in the teleport trigger

I'm having problems with some triggers.
I am pretty sure I set this up right, but I have a particle system with an OnEnterCollider trigger on it set to Player and PlayerLocal, as well as the collision and trigger checkboxes set to world and the same collision matrix.
Here's a quick video going over my settings
I have all these proper settings enabled and on, but when I interact with the particle system, it doesn't trigger the desired effect(which, in the example, is teleporting the player to a different location)

you are probably using the camera with the tag Main Camera and Vrchat disable it at start, so you just have to change the tag of the camera to make it work

I just encountered a very weird bug where the game update its texture if my world by itself without my knowledge.
I've been updating my world for a while, and changed the texture of the skybox from panoramic to cubemap, but I never 'build and publish' it, only test build.
But today while I was playing, I found out that my world is using the cubemap texture I was using in the test build.....
None of the updates I made appeared, only texture changed...
And this never happened before
It's even weirder that other people who joined said that they still see the old texture
How would the VRChat plugin react to me making a custom C#script for map editing purposes? (as in a script that only runs in editor) would it cancel the export/upload?
@bleak moat Editor only scripts have no limits to what you can do, as long as the script is not required at runtime at all.

The SDK should strip off any non-whitelisted scripts on build&upload.

Does anyone know what's going on here? When I paint flowers on my terrain, they appear only in rows instead of wherever I paint:
I noticed I was getting an error about a limit on the number of meshes per patch being exceeded and adjusting the detail resolution per patch and detail resolution seems to have resolved the issue. I guess Unity was rendering flowers across each patch until it ran out of vertices, hence the weird rows?
I have another weird issue though where I can paint height onto this example terrain, but I cannot seem to paint any additional details or alter the ones already there:

Ok, so this is going to sound really dumb, but I'm creating my first larger scale world and I'm trying to put in stairs. The stairs don't allow me to walk up them. Instead, I walk through them. How do I fix this?
Edit: I figured it out. I used a mesh collider and it worked. I was selecting the wrong thing for the collider causing it to walk through the stairs instead of actually using them.

Rain particle colliders? Particle collision is very very expensive so Unity does it at low precision. You should set up collider planes by hand instead in the particle system settings

Does anyone know of a good tutorial that provides a visualization of patch resolution and such for terrains? I'm trying to add foliage, and the terms are confusing. You've got your terrain width and length, which I have set to 1024, and then you've got "detail resolution" and "detail resolution per patch". For "detail resolution" it says "the number of cells available for placing details on the terrain tile. This value is squared". And for "detail resolution per patch" it says "the number of cells in a single patch" .
But what constitutes a "terrain tile"? The whole terrain? I'm used to terrains being subdivided into tiles, and I see "tiles" when I go into wireframe mode, but I don't have a clue if those are what "detail resolution" is referring to when it says "the number of cells available for placing details on the terrain tile" or if it is referring to the whole terrain.
So, my world needs some underwater effect. How exactly do I accomplish it?

i need a bit of a hand? i cant log into the sdk with my boyfriends account. i made a world for him, tested and everything from my account and it worked just fine, i signed out and i cant log in with his and yes its the right username and password, not only did he watch me do it, i also copied and pasted when he sent it to me and he even used teamviewer and logged in on his own. i can log in with mine just fine but no matter what i cant log in with his. i already tried deleted the sdk and reimporting it, exporting the project file without the sdk and making a whole new unity project then reimporting the sdk, ive tried just restarting unity and ive tried restarting my computer but nothing seems to be helping. anyone got any ideas? i dont really want to send him the files because 1. thats alot of effort and 2. some of the stuff in it is a bit of a surprise and i want to wait for him to see it in game

idk how exactly vrc gets youtube videos but if the same videos always fail it might be age restriction, geo blocking, embeds disabled, etc

@random sage it'll always play the video if I input the URL manually. It's just like a 30% chance it'll play if it's in the playlist and I load into the world

before upload map use this local test option - if send to home map / not build then there is problem - check console for errors with build - post here if can that console error

That link I sent you may be on an "older" Blender but the tutorial works the same. It will create a "shell" of that model with way less meshes intersecting

Before compressing the baked lighting one of my worlds was ~840 mb, I think you're fine. It wont stop you from uploading it at least.

If you have the time & patience to bake normalmaps you can get pretty good results visually but you'll loose details from up close. Here's an example where the left model is just a mesh with 1080 faces, and the right one has a baked normal map and is only made of 18 faces
you obviously loose some geometry detail but the overall aspect stays roughly the same
i think for the smaller models it's ok, but for life size models it will not be possible

when i bake my lights some point lights disappear and dont bake
go to your render settings and increase the number of pixel lights
i did that they disappear only after hitting bake

Yeah delete that script
there are issues with the current SDK script that can cause build and test to send you to your home world despite how you made the world. It auto-fixes if you build and publish instead. Trust me, i've had the issue myself, and i have literally no errors in my console at all that would interfere with that @wicked wren

same here 1, but i get the issue from time to time. it's nothing to do with the SDK at all, just happends when the project decides to corrupt some of the files in the project you're using, and i dont like restarting a new project just to have it corrupted again

@vagrant hamlet Only way to reliably move the player is via Udon and teleporting the player slightly continuously IIRC. Maybe have a trigger zone on the thing that takes the players location and teleports them in an orbital motion relative to the center?

I have a question I am hoping someone can help me with... I am working on a world in unity and I was having some problems with getting it to publish so I deleted a bunch of things and finally got it to publish privately. It is showing in my list on my account on vrchat.com but I cannot go to the world. It won't launch when I try to launch it and it is not showing in my world's list. This is my very first upload. I've updated my world to Unity 2018.4.20f1, but when trying to publish the new version it doesn't let me update, instead it shows me the options to publish it as a new world. I made sure it is properly using the Blueprint ID.

For example, I have a teleport trigger on an object and i want that same trigger to also change the respawn point, so if you respawn, you don't go to where the respawn point was originally. Instead, you respawn at a new point
When i try to build and test my world, it just opens up a old build. All i did was put lightprobes in the scene using simple lightprobe placer and changed the skybox, i have tried reverting to the previous skybox, restarting unity, no luck
Check your console after upload, most likely the probe asset is causing errors and your word is not updating even if it says upload complete

You can move the scripts folder inside the editor folder in the same location

I don't know what you mean, but I just deleted that asset and placed the light probes manually and it worked. Placing manually wasn't even that hard. I've always thought that it's way more complicated

Why collider looks like this when using convex mesh collider? It worked fine in 2017 unity. And what to use now as object sync? Its not in there anymore

Can you have a canvas as childobject of a pickupable object? When I pick it up the canvas get mirrored for some reason

@wraith ruin ensure the referenced mesh in the mesh collider component is the same mesh as the can. Also; VRC_Object Sync still exists in VRCSDK2. If you're working on an older world before Udon was released in VRCSDK3, then use VRCSDK2 to get Object Sync back, otherwise VRCSDK3 would be using udon instead of Object sync I believe
Its is. And im using sdk3, but i figured it out. But that mesh collider problem still persists
