no it's technically a standalone headset but it's not the most powerful, if you get a quest you can only go to quest compatible worlds and view/wear quest compatible avatars and the numbers of both of those are very small. You pretty much won't be able to see like 80% of player content
They do sell a cable to connect your quest to your computer (which is far as I'm aware of is just a long USB C cable) to make it basically like a proper headset but at that point you might as well just pay the little extra to get a full proper headset

Honestly pretty much the only thing keeping my avatars in very poor is polycount and it's not even maliciously high. it's usually just like 90,000 or so.
and then material count because the system counts disabled stuff so my gun that I spawn maybe once a week is counted even though it's pretty much never rendered ergo not really affecting performance in any meaningful way. and even then it's mostly just the custom world clock/fps counter I put on the side of the gun that can't really be atlased without basically rewriting the Shader
If it wasn't for those things most of my avatars would be medium or good
But honestly like most players I don't put much stock into the Avatar ranking system due to its laughable limits and lack of balance in calculation in relation to how much each discrepancy effects performance
I know that I've done my part for the most part

I noticed that especially on new friend requests it pretty much will always just say user as opposed to their actual rank at least for me
