Hey dudes, hardware question for new person. Trying to figure out what is the best HMD if cost does not matter. I'm definitely doing the index controllers as that one seems obvious, but can't decide between reverb G2 or Index HMD. I just don't know how big a difference the FoV makes and also I don't know how much the inside out tracking on the G2 vs lighthouses matters for just the HMD. Or maybe the lighthouses would interfere with the G2 tracking??

all the reviews and articles i'm reading comparing the g2 with the index continuously conflate the controller tracking with the HMD tracking so I can't glean any useful information from them. Like yeh I know the index controllers are way better but that doesn't tell me anything about the head tracking

Never heard of the HMD, but personally I’d recommend lighthouse tracking if you aren’t going to bring your headset around everywhere

The tracking of the headset itself should always remain accurate with either one assuming your PC can keep up, the controller tracking is what you should be worrying about instead.

It requires a lit space, as the cameras are visible spectrum. Turn the lights off and you lose positional tracking.

Visual markers. As it's a CV-based system, it needs visual features to reference across frames, so using it in a room with plain walls will be a problem. Easy solution to this is put up posters or fiducial markers.

As Eternal said Based on your OS, your folder could be locked to the applications and some games such as Vrc that uses cache files. Which means the Game itself can't read the files(aka worlds/avatar)

Well that's more likely to be a network issue on the user's side but in some cases what I mentioned can occur

There is a setting that makes it so people cannot freely clone your avatars.

I decided to try and educate myself incase I was wrong, but after reading several articles, nay, it does not seem like the difference between Home and Pro is big enough to warrant asking for most consumers, and nothing is mentioned in terms of folder permission differences. The largest difference seems to be that you miss out on Group Policy Man. and Bitlocker.

Okay so. Since these are 2 versions. One has to be more complete than the other one right? Cool. So The issues of Home other than BitLocker and other features.. is that You are locked when it comes to folder's permissions. You aren't allowed to change or make it possible to applications to be Owner of their own folder. That's probably why the Game can't read some files. Cause It doesn't have permission to do so.

You must obtain at least "New User" Trust Rank in our Trust and Safety system in order to upload content. You can get this by just spending a few hours in VRChat, hop some worlds, and make some friends. Give it some time and you'll be able to upload content in no time.

As an aside, you must have a VRChat account to upload content. That means you can't use a Steam account, Oculus account, or Viveport account to upload content like worlds or avatars.

A lot of the worlds in VRC are just horribly optimized, so there’s always a performance problem depending on the world you go to

i was in a room with 20 people with extremely optimized avatars and it's very good experience

managed to stay in the 90 fps range

The oculus is somewhat limited on what game you can play stand alone. But it’s portable and easy to set up

The index has better tracking, resolution, and controllers, and has full body tracking compatibility. It all depends on what you’re looking for the most.

@royal orchid I would go with quest 2 since it’s less than a third of the price. Get a link cable though so you can play the PC version. The standalone quest version of VRChat is NOT worth it.

If you like what you see and you want fullbody or more field of view you can save up for an index and then sell the quest 2 once you get it...

I know that VRChat is manly made for voice, but it had been great if we could send Direct Message to folk or send a request to be able to send a DM. I cloned an avatar and the user did get upset and asked me to not use it, I have no microphone so I had no chance to tell her I did not keep it or send a link to a video or image showing that it no longer where in my avatar list,

Btw, the cloning part need to be re made or changed so allow cloning is not on by default.

My friend are mute after a stroke, he can hear but not form words that are easy to hear, he like VRChat but sometime feel excluded, he are now often in Second Life, but he like VR better, so some form of text or message system had been a great way to get more fool with special needs to VRchat.

But it had been better if VRChat where more open towards 3rd party clients that could experiment with things like Text to Voice or just simple text cards in world.

Yeah, you can (usually) easily do that by opening the worlds menu, clicking the "you are in [world]" and hitting go and that'll basically reload the instance for you.

i really hope they fix the social stuff first before adding the discord plugin, I for got the names of them but when there are 2 updater plugins, one will fight the other no matter how hard you rewrite it to calm down. so if one is already having severe problems, adding another variant of a plugin is going to make a lot of other processes seize up

I haven't experienced it myself like being with someone and on vrchat like as a character your playing as.. I imagine that could get really interesting though... Acting out all those fantasy's as all those characters while feeling the warmth of another person... But you can't see them.. could be a good marital tool like if you and the missus can't stand to look at one another but you both want a good time.. can see how that would work.
