Hello everyone, I started vrchat a few weeks ago and I have a question. A few days ago I was in the Lunar End world with one other user, we both made it to the end of the story and there were 2 portals. I decided to go through the portal on the left to see where it took me, and I was approached by someone in a small white demon cat(?) looking avatar who told me that I shouldn't be there and to begone before a red static appeared across my screen and my game crashed. to explain. Avatars can have custom animations and shaders. His avatar had an animation that made that cross appear and most likely spawned a mesh with so many polygons it crashed your game. You should disable animations for all users through the safety settings tab @fleet garnet

@golden coyote while I can't give too much information, I do want to say that the oculus Quest is somewhat limiting because not every model shows up for the quest. And so many amazing models are PC only. So if you're especially looking for VRChat, if the Quest is an option, just remember that you won't be able to see many avatars. You would need a PC head set for that.
That being said, what are some of the other games you're looking to play? To give us an idea of what you'll need it for.

Basically, the Oculus Quest is a stand-alone headset that doesn't need a computer. That also means it's potential is limited purely by itself as opposed to your computer. Which is why not all avatars work on it.
But as others have stated, Windows Mixed Reality may be your best bet for a cheaper headset AND that is connected to your computer, which means you can see all the avatars in VRChat.

As a Mixed Reality user, I can say it will work (provide it hasn't been broken since the last time I used mine) but inside out tracking is far inferior to what the Vive and Oculus use, the controllers are better and you can just about the best resolution of any headset with it, but there's a design flaw that can shorten the lifespan in at least the dell version and microsoft recently pushed out an update that makes Mixed Reality unusable with SteamVR unless you opt in to a specific beta, and who knows how long that'll last.

Because it's actually good. The early wmr had some tracking issues due to the wrong batteries, and it using the Bluetooth on your PC. The Samsung Odyssey+ fixed most of those issues with redesigned controllers and on board Bluetooth, so Tracking is tighter, and the rift S with it's inside out tracking is actually more accurate than the old rift (except behind your back)
Early execution wasn't the greatest, but it paved the way
Also most tracking issues on older wmr like Dell, or Lenovo can be fixed by using an external Bluetooth dongle, and using batteries that are 1.6v AA. Onboard PC Bluetooth and normal rechargable batteries (which are typically 1.3v) are known to cause tracking jitter and latency

Sign language usually is quite simple anyway, most stuff is thumbs up/fingers, or you spell things out with letters for more complex stuff, so it's not that hard to translate to VR

the screwdriver didn't actually cut my finger. To get the locks of you have to pry the little faceplate on them off and all the pins drop out, so my finger got cut on the metal, or osmething, im not sure exactly what it hit but it split down the middle

It's just how you're wired. I have similar things but in a different narrative, My brain thinks up every possible scenario for action im going to do, even things i'm not going to do, it's quite disruptive.

I give up trying to act normal I use to do it in work where I had everything in alphabetical order in the names of the liquids but people kept saying stuff about it so If things got put in wrong place I’d try and leave it so people thought I wasn’t crazy moving stuff around but I was getting myself more stressed leaving it out of order and I give up went back to putting things in alphabetical order as it wasn’t worth the stress I was putting myself under trying to fit in with what people thought etc

Did great projects. Want way above what I had to do, got the same grades as everyone else while I did 4x as impressive shit. All the extra things I did that took more energy where not rewarding to do and just meant I had to work harder next time
So I quickly overworked myself and now I'm really not caring. I do things because I want it or because I get payed for it

talking can help alot, but there are people who will try to devalidate your problem or to give reolutions that can be toxic.
Then, try to instead of going straight for the 1 hour a week. Set your goal, like oclac said, have it be 1 hour a day for example. Write it down. Have it somwhere you'll see it often, and try to stop the mindset of having to please everyone. in reality, you won't ever be able to make everyone happy. That's life, there's always going to be someone somwhere who will hate what you do, even if it's just for the sake of hating it. Do things for yourself, play VR chat for the interaction, to be with your friends, not tomake others happy, you know?

I have for the past 2 sessions used VRChat for 1 hour.
And honestly looking back, I am bored of it.
I don't want to use it anymore. I'd rather learn something new (programming related), watch 1 episode of a show I love, learn my foreign languages, exercise, etc.
My point is, yes, I have made some progress. But I still don't feel it's complete just yet.
It’s worth having a list of things to try to get you to the place you want to be with it all as some things will work for some but not others try one thing out for a while and then if it doesn’t seem to work try somthing else but you will need to keep at that thing for a while as sometimes it can Take a while for somthing to start working for someone

Get some paper, and right in the middle, write down your problem. Write down not just that you're playing VR chat too much, but for example, that you are obsessively playing VR Chat.
So, now you have your problem, you can start to work on solutions. To find a solution you have to find the cause of the problem. - So, ask yourself why are you obsessively playing VR Chat: A few reasons you've given are that you want to please people, you fear you're going to miss out, your avatar might be offensive.
Now, we have a few reasons, so lets try to figure out a scale for fears.
For example, Fearing that you're going to miss out on something, How likely is it to happen: Quite probable. But, how bad is the consequence if it does happen?: Almost nothing.
You can do this for almost every reasoning you give for your obsession, there's a reason, and that reason usually comes with a scaleable consequence if you don't do it. @vocal shard

How likely is it that you won't be able to please everybody you meet: Very likely.
What is the consequence?: Almost nothing. A lot of the people you'll meet, it won't matter if you please them or do what they want you to, so you can solve this problem quite simply. Instead of disregarding yourself to make sure you cater to everything someone needs to be pleased, you can do it like this. Structure yourself politely when you're meeting someone, and generally try to be kind. But, don't go out of your way to please everyone you meet to the point that it's damaging to yourself, most people can be happy just having someone be a decent person when they're talking. instead of doing something for each person, that takes up a huge ammount of time and energy etc, do something minimal for everyone that's enough to make them contempt.

that's how OCD is unfortunately, but you can get rid of alot of that anxiety by trying to take a step back and look at it from an outside view, try to weigh up how much effort, time, energy etc something would cost you to do, when you feel like you have to, and look at the outcome, what do you get from it, how much will it effect you, say a year from now. There's a lot of ways you can help yourself

It’s just a case of being careful at time’s as some people arnt very nice so it’s always good finding people who can give you some help.
