World loading is a massive thing too, worlds load almost immediately then stuff loads in around you. The time you spend waiting is like 3 seconds, as opposed to long loading screens between every transition. It made such a difference on my trash connection.

Also everything is asseted, so if that person then changes that world and I go back, it only has to load what was added or changed, not the whole world again. Or if worlds share any assets, you've already got them from the other world, etc.
I went to a non winter version of a map the other night and I literally didn't have to load anything as it was the same map, but just without the snow and snowflakes.
So it was like yup you've got all these meshes and textures. All done.

2018 doesn't actually seem to bring us any improvements (them tweaking the IK is separate) and Udon is a disappointment due to the fact it's still missing so many basics and existing worlds can't use it.

I found the solution recently to making friends in VRChat. Wear a very lewd avatar in full body tracking and shake your butt to dance music in random public worlds. Everyone will love you. Oh and make sure your avatar has butt physics.

@regal furnace get your character to be un-grounded (e.g. jumping repeatedly) and you can move up and down however you want, even without fbt.
Good trick to stay ungrounded is open the settings menu while jumping and then move around
But yeah the old input emulator let you do this and other cool stuff... sadly it is no longer maintained and you need some patches to get it working if it even still works

Laptop vr with better specs then desktop - Is good, but stutters will occur here and there due to it being on a laptop. Its more of an airflow issue. Plus laptops get heated p fast.
Desktop vr - Better airflow usually, and doesn't get that hot unless if you have alot of dust in it. Its generally better for VR since stutters won't occur as much since the heat goes away due to the airflow being better then a laptops.
Desktop specs aren't even that bad, just make sure your not overdoing it by having high graphics 24/7
