Well, that's where I've stuck when I played before and that's where I stick now, difference is I come in for a little, do VR stuff with hands and get bored, before I actually knew people playing it. Now it's uhh hard, since I have difficulty talking to people I don't know with voice, though VR is great for nodding or shaking the head
And petting people. I just wish avatars I used didn't do some stupid animations when I try to press buttons or even lightly touch them

VRC let's us upload our own things so people confuse VRC's performance with the performance of the people uploading to VRC. There are plenty of improvements needed in VRC, of course. But lag is hard to control when anything can be injected into the game by the user base.
They get grumped at for limits, but it's either limits or lag.
So I gladly work within limits, when possible.

i brought this up long time ago, same way you can have a quest version and pc version of one avatar, so you appear optimized for quest users and the normal you for pc players. why limit this only for quest, make it a toggle for anyone, an optimised preview mode if you will. so you can have 3 modes for users: show avatar/show optimized/hide entirely(aka gray bot)

Headset just controls your head swaying or going up and down while your body does some strange stuff to follow it but if you want to properly lay down or sit like desktop users it seems you need body tracking which is a shame but i guess that's just how it's gonna be.

or better yet get the newest version of open vr advanced settings and you can move your playspace by double tapping the menu button on the vive

Fortunately, I've never used anything other than vanilla. But going by what I see and hear from people that make (not just use) their own client mods, there are things that will not only blind a user that tries to steal an avatar, but also prevent it. There are things that will cut off ram usage to prevent crashes from memory leaks. Things that will instantly stifle excessive amounts of particles without having to just limit the max particle counts. I think it's also pretty rare to get shader crashed. I don't make or use any of these, but these are examples of things I know of. @umbral reef
The majority of the things I'm aware of are mainly quality of life and preventative.
There's more of that that I hear of than there are malicious things.
But still, the stigma and possibility of abuse through client mods exists so it's all on the back burner.

Because it depends so heavily on PC users and creators creating Quest avatars (which I'd never personally waste my time doing) you're at the mercy of an audience that doesn't care about your platform. While in cross play worlds, the chance of seeing someone with a Quest compatible model is probably lower than seeing another Quest user.
